      Hello, what is the difference between stainless steel and duplex in terms of technique?

    Travis is one of the best I've seen, especially I like the video TIG welding by looking through the gap, AWESOME man.

    I haven't welded stainless TIG or TIG in almost a decade. Hoping this will kick start some of the tricks I've forgotten about. Going in to test tomorrow.

    Travis is amazing and skilled. To bad he couldn’t take over GRB instead of them closing. We could have learned from yet another master welder.

    Hey mate. I have been a pressure pipe welder for 30 odd years. In Australia. Working on things ,ranging from gas platforms at sea,to refineries ,and construction.
    I have never been allowed,to carry out a tig weld in the VERTICALLY DOWN POSITION. ON ANY MATERIAL. In fact. ,if that is what a welder is seen to be doing on pressure pipe, THEY GET THE SACK

      I am welding uphill. Camera captured filming upside down, most likely due to its placement and or help the viewer learn. It *appears* to be welding downhill, but the next shot of my body, is welding uphill

    • @andrewh3749
      @andrewh3749 Год назад

      I thought the exact same thing, but he's on a rotator and it's the angle of the camera
      That was my first thought. Since when do we weld tig vertical down lol

    • @kf8575

      "Moving from a slight downhill progression to more of a 12 oclock"
      That is what he's talking about

    It that tape around the weld the bevel? Whats the purpose

    • @whatthedeuce091
      @whatthedeuce091 11 месяцев назад

      You always tape off the open root of a weld that needs to be purged (SS, duplex, inconel, etc). Leave a bit open to start the weld, and progress from there. Argon is heavier than air, so naturally when you roll weld pipe, the open part is on top. That allows the air to be purged out and the argon stays inside to keep the inside of the joint an inert environment. Duplex needs to be inert on the inside of the joint while being welded or it will get ruined.

    I was always told clip the end of your wire when you stop. For contamination.

      Make sure your tungsten is sharp af, short stick out, 3/32 or 1/8th” gap. Knife edge the bevel get it really sharp. Whatever gap you use, use that size rod. Run about 70-75 amps, walk the cup real tight and watch the key hole open up then dab some wire in there, watch it slightly drip in there and then add wire again when it opens up. Can’t go wrong it’ll go in slick.

    9.58. Are you just about to wiggle your way over a gas pore from the previous run?

    • @FieldRes
      @FieldRes Год назад +1

      That's part of the original root pass that was not touched by the grinding disk., the one side is lower., that speak was completely untouched. If that was a gas pocket., that would be a clear indication that there would be more then, in the weld itself. However, as the welds were 100% xray., severe sour service., ultimately then it is now unlikely a gas pocket
