    I watched this video by Dr. Marc Kovacs (former head of usta training (I think) He says load the back hip(leg). I agree with Intuitive tennis. To me it wasn't natural. Made my toss not go far enough in front which I wanted. Just a weird feeling. Thoughts?

  • @scott5612
    @scott5612 2 месяца назад

    I am very interested by your comments on back foot loading. During my serve certification with the Kovacs Institute, they showed many studies that show the weight distribution at various points in the serve. And during the loading phase (trophy position) the weight was predominantly on the back foot. Back leg loading is one of the key points of their training and Marc Kovacs has worked with John Isner, Reilly Opelka, Frances Tiafoe, Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens.

    Ema seemed to be hitting the Deuce T on the kick serve. It will not curve away from the returner as the kick serve from the Ad side does,
    but still very effective as it is going towards the returner's backhand. On second serve from the Deuce, I would mainly use that kick serve over the slice.

    she mentions that she wants to start moving her elbow more to the right, good tips about that, i could be making the same mistake.
    She initially already has it correct at 0:00 starting the elbow from middle.

    Nic, why when Emma was hitting kicks towards the end there was her follow through finishing on the left side of her body like a normal serve, yet when you hit your kick you seem to follow through keeping your racquet on the right side of your body…or am I imaging things?

  • @omarsultanov362

    Isn’t there a slight confusion between the kick and the topspin serves? It’s really hard «to attack the kick serve”, unless it’s not a topspin serve.

  • @wenweihu9666

    Emma’s left hand is too tight. Just stuck to the body. Left hand elbow should towards back after hitting the server, left arm movement should help the up torso bend smoothly.

    Sorry, I am a great fan of yours but in this case you are wrong, She is going to injure herself if she keeps pushing her hip into the court. She was on the right path by loading a bit on her right leg, that is very doable, efficient and safe, Many professional players do it now and they know better

  • @hehehehehahahaha2025

    I'm genuinely curious and not trying to sound mean but how is it possible to have been on the professional tour and not have had any coach - prior to now - point out these serve fundamentals to her? Are there low ranked ATP players also who have problems like these on their serves or is this purely an issue with women's coaching?

    • @user-oj7co5wm8g
      @user-oj7co5wm8g Год назад +3

      Most of these players learned young. I once had a college level player who couldn’t even explain the forehand. He had no idea what was actually happening on a technical level. Garcia is one of the biggest servers on the WTA tour and when she had to change technical components of her serve she started from the trophy position to learn proper mechanics for a whole season. She was still a top 5 server that season.

    • @hehehehehahahaha2025
      @hehehehehahahaha2025 Год назад +1

      @@TehNomad but that first tip regarding the elbow position is such a basic, fundamental aspect of creating power in a serve, I don't know how someone plays on the tour and either gets away with it or has nobody point it out to them. Does that happen on the men's tour? I don't think it does but maybe I'm wrong

    It's crazy that Ema is trying to change things she had been doing correctly all her life. I feel like it's a strength issue rather than technical issue. Those thinner women on WTA tour never serve very hard.

    • @user-oj7co5wm8g
      @user-oj7co5wm8g Год назад +1

      Rubbish. All the current top WTA servers are quite skinny short of maybe Sabalenka. Strength has little to do with serving big compared to optimized mechanics.

    Thanks for another great video! Best tennis channel on youtube! What are the main things intermediate players should focus on to get more power on the serve? I remember seeing in another one of your videos how you said you did not even know about how the arm pronated when you grew up playing tennis, and how thinking about that could result in fake pronation and slowing down the serve. So, what are the top fundamental things a player should think about and try to execute so that the other elements of the serve fall into place? Thanks in advance. 🙂
