One of the best GH5+Sankor Anamorphic videos out there and i know them all. Congratulations! Edit: Hab grade deine Website und so ausgecheckt, das erklärt natürlich einiges :D Bin jetzt schon Fan!
This is the best video with simple lenses anamorphic that i watched at moment, the imagem quality is amazing dont look like any others home videos with anamorphic lens and adapter, is clean and sharpnes, the colors and enquadraments are great.
Very inspiring. I'm receiving a EF mod Canon FDn 50mm f1.4 for my GH5 back this week and was thinking about going anamorphic. I think this may have sealed the deal. Thank you.
Thanks for posting! Have you used any sort of speedbooster here? I'm using a similar setup (BMPCC4k + Lens Turbo II + Canon FD 50 1.4 + Sankor 16c) and I'm getting vignetting. I'm consindering that maybe I could use a dummy canon FD->m43 adapter and get rid of the vingetting this way...?
Hey Janis, Greetings from Dallas. Loved your video. The framing, composition and play of lights - impeccable my friend. You have an amazing future ahead. I see a great chance of your channel growing fast in the coming months with more content like these. You have inspired few souls in this part of the world.. All the very best.. - Jay Mohan

But know looking a bit into thiss all and I Love anamorphic shooting for these types of videos but its a bit a dessision to make to make a switch to a maybe better video camera.. and Did what codec can you suggest and do you think the dynamic range of the camera is exxelent ? cheers love your videos btw
Hi there, absolutely loved this video~ You said in an earlier comment that you've since ordered the Rapido V3 clamp for stability. Do you think their Front Metal Jacket is necessary for stability as well? Asking because I'm considering your solution. Thanks!
Thanks! I wouldn't say it's _necessary_ but it definitely helps (since it has two support points then). The alternative would be only the V3 clamp and then another universal lens support in the front. But I guess the FMJ is a much more sleek and less "frankensteiney" setup.
nice images. how did you feel with the equipment you used? Did it give you any problem or make you feel uncomfortable? Would you recommend the lens combination you used "Sankor 16C + FVD-16A + taking lens"?
I'd totally recommend this combo, as long as you don't go wider than 50mm. The only thing I missed during my trip was a clamp with rod support, it did misalign itself from time to time. But I ordered a Rapido V3 clamp right after we came back and now it's very solid.
I'd go with Rapido Technologies if you're in the US or RAFcamera if you're in Europe or Asia. Stay away from Redstan, that guy is an asshole - I never got my adapter that I ordered from him.
Great Shots! I have just bought same lens and i'm amazed. You pushed the quality to the max! Have U made any zoom in post? My footage. Is more narrow after desqeeze with same setup as yours. Best regards
@@radekschenk1387 Oh ok, you're talking about aspect ratio. Yes, I cropped the 2.66:1 image to a much more pleasing 2.39:1 - I used frame guides in camera to make sure I was framing for that aspect ratio.
beautifully done. I actually have the GH5s and Sankor C too but your footage looks a lot cleaner. I've heard how these old anamorphic lenses can get out of focus so aren't as sharp. Any recommendations?
Thanks! Of course I did, I used the Tiffen variable ND. But it's not that great to be honest, there are definitely better ND-faders out there these days. My two main complaints are that it doesn't have hard stops so it's easy to go beyond the maximum and it doesn't have a filter thread in the front, so you can't put a cap on it. Also, it tends to make the colors somewhat brownish...
I did, before I flocked the inside of the lens. It’s not completely gone afterwards but it’s much much better! There’s a tutorial on RUclips called something like „How to flock the hell out of your anamorphic lens“. It’s a bit scary to open it at first but it’s actually much easier than I expected. Also, when you put it back together you’ll have to fine-tune your infinity point and that will probably make your lens sharper than it was before opening. ;)
Thank you! Around 55-57mm full frame equivalent in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. If I would have used the full width of the 2.66:1 image (4:3 mode with 2x anamorphic) it would be exactly 50mm equivalent.
@@MirkoMiljevic I wouldn't recommend any clamp without rod support... the filter threads of stills lenses (especially vintage ones) are definitely not made to hold that much weight.
how did you manage with the aspect ratio, it is not so squeezed, as the sanker 16C is a 2x, usually the final result is more compressed, I like your version more, could you share how you did? For example here it is also a sanker 16C but the aspect ratio is more squeezed then yours:: ruclips.net/video/KIZlCI56C8k/видео.html I like yours more, please let me know Thank you
Just use simple 2.39:1 frame guides on your monitor and then crop in post accordingly. You'll always get the wider 2.66:1 aspect ratio (which your video is) when shooting with a 2x anamorphic lens on a 4:3 sensor. That's pretty standard and it's the same way on most professional film sets that shoot with anamorphics on the Alexa or classic 4-perf film. But the 2.39:1 aspect ratio is a much more common final format for cinema, so I just framed for that (using frame guides) and then had a 2.39:1 timeline for the edit (which cropped off a bit on both sides of the footage).
@@janisbrod My bad. I meant to say single focus because all the added weight and size. Is it troublesome? And also, i`d like to ask you if i can use some of your shots in my introductionary video into adapter? It will be about 10secs and It is not monetized in any ways. thanks
It's cropped to classic Cinemascope (2.39:1) because I'm not a huge fan of the overly wide 2.66:1 ratio. I set the frame guides in the GH5 to 2.39:1 so I could frame it properly - but it still records 2.66:1 (after desqueeze) so you'll have to crop it in your NLE.
@@janisbrod Hei Janis. so this is the thing that ive been really wondering. ive been watching many videos shot on sankor 16c with different cameras and they all mostly very wide and cropped. when i red this comment it made sense how to make it less wide. so do you think i can use the same method like u did here with Sony A7 iii? will i get the same ratio? I want Sony a7 iii so bad, but im in love with GH5's anamorphic looks. Thx Sorry for my bad grammer.
@@ZicoNadStarr You could basically get this with any camera. But you will definitely need an external field monitor with desqueeze, crop & scaling functions such as a SmallHD. The Sony doesn't have anamorphic features in-camera, so filming without a monitor would be super awkward. Also, keep in mind that the IBIS of the a7III won't work with anamorphic lenses.
@@ZicoNadStarr Thanks! :) I've only used the a7III once and I thought it was not very well suited for filmmaking... lots of moiré and a bit noisy. If you want great video quality in a Full Frame camera, I'd go with either the a7sIII or the Panasonic S1H.
This is so beautiful. I recently purchased the sankor 16D. Your image is so sharp and has such a shallow depth of field at the same time - what was your aperture when you filmed these?
