  • We take a look at Trophyline's newest platform offering, the Wingman. From the factory, it's a very good option to finish off your climb with the last stick... but what about using it for one-sticking? We show you EXACTLY how to convert it for that purpose, and the parts you'll need. #saddlehunter #saddlehunting #onesticking #trophyline

    Thanks for the video, I really wanted the EWO UP ultimate stick but they were on back order. Based on your video I ordered the wingman late Tuesday night and it was at my door Saturday morning. From the looks of it I won’t be disappointed. I’ll be making the mods when I can get the supplies but at least I can hunt with it for now.

    @Staggs in the Wild So after watching this video I started to question my Mission platform purchase. Then I drank a couple of rum and cokes and got the idea "why can't I just flip this thing and make it a one stick". Turns out you can, and you get the huge Mission platform. An added plus is the platform cams down even further now. I'm going to do some minor tinkering, add a cam cleat, cam rope, move the holes for the platform up some, and voila, a one stick with a massive platform. I'm using the EOD 3 step aider as well. At some point if EOD ever get the Climbing Stick Bracket back in stock I may add it to the bottom.

    Excellent video. I especially appreciate the pricing comparisons. If someone was handy they could splice their own rope for the cam cleat and use a tied webbing aider to really cut the cost down some.

      Exactly right! Appreciate you taking the time to comment!

  • @HighHunting38
    @HighHunting38 2 года назад

    Yes I agree on the pricing. I can one stick, however have not seen many vids on one sticking a tree with multiple branches then rappelling down. I think it would take a lot longer than using multiple sticks in that situation. I’m primarily using the stick/platform as a quick morning/afternoon hunt scenario and want the most amount of foot room for maneuvering.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад +1

      Nah. Maybe I’ll do a video on it this fall but rappelling down with a ton of limbs is just as easy as rappelling down with none. It’s way faster than using multiple sticks because you don’t have to stop and collect them on the way down; you just keep walking down until you hit the ground. Rappelling with a long rope gives you the freedom to simply walk down and around any branches you need to. It’s super simple.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад +1

      No, those prices did include the two-step aiders that I had ordered to be included on each stick. I just didn’t call out the price of the aiders at the end because I was focusing on “total cost of ownership”.

  • @HighHunting38

    Thank you so much for doing this review. I was concerned that maybe the Wingman would move a bit compared to the UP platform because of how the UP attaches to the tree and the Wingman uses the stick standoffs only. A few questions, is there a noticeable difference in foot room while standing between the two because of the design? Is it possible to switch out the Trophyline standoffs to the Eastern Outdoors version for added distance off the tree which should give you more foot room? Thanks again.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад +1

      The UP does provide a lot more footroom obviously … those sticks just have the best stand-off room in the industry. And, yes - you could use DanO’s standoffs on the TL tube. But at that point you’d have more invested in the stick to make it “viable” than if you just bought the UP, which I kind of showed at the end with all the prices.

    Hi Greg, awesome review and video. I’m new to your channel and interested in one stickin. I live in Alberta Canada and it’s hard to get certain products up here. Just wondering if you are gonna sell any of your used one sticks?

    Ok now that it’s off season and I have some time to try this can you climb a crooked tree while one sticking? I’m seeing some beanies to it but maybe some limitations too. Are there other limitations over multiple sticks? Looking at buying 4 latitude carbon sticks as way to cut weight too. Luv the one stick theory but afraid it may limit me in places. Just asking as to what you’ve found as far as limitations go.

    • @StaggsintheWild

      @@StaggsintheWild One more question is I have 36ft of sterling oplux I’m gonna be using for a repel line. Is there a better devise to use since it’s 8mm or is a figure 8 necessary due to diameter?

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  Год назад

      @@pathfinder5804 yes, I’d suggest a figure 8 with autoblock. I have several friends who’ve used a Safeguard with Oplux, and I have in the past as well. I discontinued using it simply because I like Canyon Elite much better as it stays supple and doesn’t develop memory. Those of my friends who kept using it DID experience slippage issues where they would slowly start sliding down after a bit. It took several months of using it to start seeing it, but they did.

    do you find the height of the cam cleat better positioning than say mounting it below the original holes instead of above? Which would you think would have more of a probability of kicking out on you?

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад

      I chose to go above the hole for the reasoning you alluded to … the general rule is you want your cleat 2/3 up the length of the stick.

    So do you think there is enough room on the platform to spin around and shoot weak side? I just bought my wingman and will be using it as a one stick this season. I'd like to not have to bring my platform and save weight when going in.
    Thanks

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад +1

      It honestly would be tough. Is it possible? Sure. But it’ll be easier to lean your weight out against your tether/rappel rope and pivot around IMO. Be sure to set up prior to season and test it out for yourself, as I’m sure you will.

    So I’m just getting into this and have had a few questions on some of your other videos. First thx for the great videos as they really help when trying to decide what to buy/try for equipment!!! So I bought the up package and as I thought one sticking up here in Maine during our cold temps with super heavy cloths on might be to much. Well I got sticks and wingman and tried them out immediately in yard. Instant realization/regret that I could one stick with not to much trouble. I figure after watching some other videos of hang and hunt that as a second option I may buy a Helo or LWCG .5 and do a hybrid hang and hunt setup using steps/saddle/stand for certain applications. So my question on the wingman to convert it to one stick is you mentioned the UPstick and others were a 12in stick. Would it be a reasonable thing to cut post down to make it 12in and drill new holes for everything at same time as that 12in thing seems to be the standard and there’s gotta be a reason for that.

    • @StaggsintheWild
      @StaggsintheWild  2 года назад

      12 or 15 is probably equally as popular … the 15 perhaps slightly more. Some guys like the 15” better as they say it helps them not hit their shins on the platform as they step up onto it, but I’ve honestly never hit my shin using a 12” stick one single time and I’ve got literally hundreds of climbs under my belt now.
