David Hassinger added a lot of EQ on Keith's Satisfaction riff, so what you hear on the record is very different to how the pedal actually sounds in the room.

There's loads of demos of the og on RUclips. These just don't sound good

Love the aesthetics but it just has no guts or depth. Great demo.

So Gibson put out the first fuzz and first ever pedal? I didn’t know that.

I think the top 3 fuzz boxes are pretty obviously the big muffs, fuzz face, and tone bender. But the fuzz face isnt very gainy and thin until it goes through an amp on the edge if break up or is maxed out. I feel like a lot of the complaints on this pedal could be addressed that way? Based on other demos i think you have to approach things like an sd9 where most of the tone control is usable only in the first quarter then its too fizzy and bright. But these are a v specific sound. Definitely more of the 60s garage rock variety than the psychedelic or hard rock of the era and later. Keep in mind not all fuzz boxes like clean. Tone benders and fuzz faces most definitely dont. Big muffs and super fuzzes do but im not sure abt these. I think try it with the tone set between the first quarter of the dial and a boost pedal or an od for more.

The main reason why the fuzz face doesn't have much gain is a combination of the design (only 2 transistors), coupled with the fact that the germanium transistors available at the time had quite low Hfe (gain) - especially by today's standards. The Big Muff uses 4 silicon transistors.

@@dmoore0079 that’s true. But i think one of the charms of the fuzz face is that it somehow maintains a little bit of the natural sound of the guitar. The big muff not as much.

Wonderful demo. I am in need of a Stratocaster. What model Stratocaster is that? Is that an American Standard or a Custom shop. I read Richie Blackmore used one in the song "Since You've Been Gone". I plan on getting one of the these. But I need to get the Stratocaster first. Thank you for posting this.

Honestly, for the price I think its a bit lacking. I'll wait until they do something like a brassmaster reissue or something

Hmmm... not very much fuzz there! Maybe crank your amp to just breaking up then turn the fuzz on. Else stick an overdrive in front (turn gain on overdrive down) and see how that works. Victor...

It's just a really ordinary pedal. I've got plenty of other fuzz units which cost way less than this one that rip your head off. This one looks great but that's about all. Cheers Victor.

I think this pedal was actually based on the fz 1s which is a considerably more gnarly pedal than the fz1 so this actually really sucks as anything to be carrying the maestro name

Holy shit lol, I just got one for £71.00 on Guitarguitar. They are on sale for 50% off right now.
In terms of fuzz, it doesn't sound like it can really compare to a Big Muff, or even to my Behringer Super Fuzz (which is extremely fuzzy). But it does sound like a nice distortion pedal. Also it sounds killer with the bass for sure!

    • @NewFalconerRecords

That's a very reasonable price, good score!
Oh man, the Behringer Super Fuzz -- I'm thinking about doing a review of a whole bunch of octave fuzz units (ranging from cheap to expensive), the Behringer is serious value for money. The fact that it doubles as a clean boost as well is just crazy.

@@NewFalconerRecords Yeah, it's by far my favourite pedal. I love it! I've used it for a couple of the tracks on my latest EP (Ambulance and Roll Credits, which can be heard on my channel) and it honestly sounds great. Both of the fuzz settings sound killer, and the clean boost is super useful for other stuff. I have no idea why they added a boost function, but it's cool to have in the chain.

@@NewFalconerRecords I haven't tried out any octave fuzz pedals (at least not that I'm aware of), but I often run the Behringer Octaver pedal through my rig and it sounds pretty cool. Of course it only works for single notes and not chords though. I didn't even realise octave fuzz pedals were a thing. Should be pretty awesome for lead guitar though.

    • @NewFalconerRecords

@@Molotov_Milkshake The Behringer Super Fuzz is an octave fuzz pedal, it's a clone of the Boss Hyper-Fuzz, which is based on the Foxx Tone Machine, which is based on the Japanese Shin-ei/Honey/Companion/Uni-Vox units from the late 1960s (they were all the same circuit). You can always tell an octave fuzz because you can never play more than a power-chord before they start sounding too crazy.
By the way, I had a listen to those two tracks that you mentioned, gave them both a like and I thought the way you used the fuzz was really effective and really gave the songs some grunt and attitude. Nice stuff! 'Ambulance' is pretty catchy actually.

@@NewFalconerRecords Thanks! Looking back, I think Cortisol King also used the Super Fuzz too.
I did not realise the Super Fuzz was also an octave pedal. I've had a look at the item description in a few different stores and it's never mentioned. They just say 'two modes: classic fuzz and grunge' without elaborating on what those mean. It's pretty cool that it can handle powerchords effectively, because the Behringer Octaver pedal can't handle anything beyond a single note without becoming garbled noise.
Thanks again for the positive feedback!

Sounds more like a distortion than a fuzz.
