Guys Phish is legally obligated to promote Betterhelp once he signs a deal with them. I'd even wager he signed a deal that requires him to promote them across many videos. He's not legally allowed to go back on the agreement and, if Betterhelp execs are smart, he might not be allowed to publicly acknowledge the controversy around them. We can't know for sure when he signed the contract but I'm gonna bet it was before he knew about the actual practices of the company
if he agreed to legal shit that doesn't allow him to talk about a company being shit, that's his own fault. I do agree it's not the end of the world that he sees through the contract, but very very good that the comments are full of people addressing it and dis using the importance of responsible sponsorships :)

Many people have spoken out against them and many content creators have taken out their sponsored segments from BetterHelp due to the company’s business practices. They’ve failed to properly vet their counselors in the past and the FTC found they shared sensitive health information from customers. They also cannot go beyond simply speaking to you such as prescriptions and official diagnosis (due to being a virtual therapy service that does not include licensed psychologists), so you’re often just paying to talk to someone which is a service offered by various mental health lines for free. I know your group has also spoken on participating in the boycott of Israeli goods and supporters, and BetterHelp has been an avid supporter of Israel’s military and government. The idea of encouraging therapy and counseling to your audience is wonderful, but BetterHelp is not the service is promises it is.
I'm not saying this to defend Better Help at all, but counsellors shouldn't be providing prescriptions or diagnoses. That's more the job of a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist. That being said, counselling can be extremely helpful, and a true counselling relationship goes beyond just talking to someone even if that's what it looks like on the surface. It fulfils a different need than helplines. The issue is that people may go in expecting diagnoses or prescription, and an ethical counsellor would ensure they know the aims and limitations of their work before they start. Doesn't sound like BetterHelp is very good at that

BetterHelp doesn’t help you to take that next step and is merely a virtual discussion. Of course it’s beyond valuable to have someone to speak to, but this is also a service not exclusive to BetterHelp. They advertise themselves as a leading therapy service, but in reality they rarely have properly vetted counselors and cannot do much beyond speaking.
