I love imagining a montage to this song of Sonic and Tails making their way up the tower, facing adversity, meanwhile it keeps cutting back to footage of Eggman dancing, jamming out on a keyboard and shredding on a guitar while he deploys enemies.
My favourite mental image is Eggman (Voiced by Alfred Coleman) going "I've finally done it, a stage so unstable and convoluted and intricate that Sonic and his friends will ne-" Knuckles: "Hey." Eggman: "WH- HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GET HERE?!"
I could definitely see him pushing buttons and grabbing levers on his control panel along to the beat of the song with robots flying out of their holding containers and everything.
This song really makes you feel like it's the build up to the final climax, especially once I realized you could faze through the lasers with Shadow's Chaos Snap.
Egg Rock Zone Act 2 is still my favorite level in the game. Change my mind. This music benefits from me not having the same like-dislike relationship with it as Act 1. While I still miss the 2.1 song, this new version is actually really epic, and the tone really fits well, not to mention it does contain familiar parts.

Proceeding deeper into the death trap, Sonic and co. find themselves faced with challenges unlike those they've ever seen before on their journey! With patience, speed, luck, and a little bit of cheating with Super Sonic, they find the strength to push onward... Meanwhile... Fang is getting _really_ sick of this stupid rock. He's almost died more times than he can count on two hands, and has survived entirely off of his quick wit. Oh, when he gets his hands on that fatso... Oh, but what's this? Fang seems to have found himself in... some sort of dance club. There's a dance floor, at least, and some disco blaring. How did he even get here?
Oh, but what's this? Fang finds out that Egghead was hiding in here all along! Fang: "You again!" Eggman: "Wait, what!? How did you even get here!?" Fang: "Same question."

Literally same. Now I know it was the music that was missing. Once the tracks were updated I was motivated to play and beat it with 3 different characters, working on the 4th now lol
