I use the Steve Sansweet philosophy for collecting-Collect based on what you LIKE, rather than as an investment. If it turns out later that what you bought is worth lots of money, great. If not, then at least you have something you like. It’s win-win every time! Looking forward to the next Q&A regarding Stan Solo customs. He makes some really nice stuff.
This channel is awesome haha. I've never even seen a full star wars movie before, but watching your videos gets me interested in the vintage kenner line 😂
There were millions of those vintage accessories made but many more figures survived than the accessories. Proportionally most were likely lost, chewed flat, sucked up in a vacuum and lost to a landfill. My childhood Chewbacca bow caster was lost in the cracks of the family station wagon. Even knowing where it was it was never found. My little brother chewed every single one of his and some of my accessories flat. The “survival” rate of figures was way higher that accessories (or capes)
I agree with all of that. It was an effort back in the day to retain weapons. I'm talking 1978. My first one to go was my Princess Leia pistol. Two or three drops and I could find it until one day it was gone forever. I was able to keep most of my first two waves safe but my little brother destroyed a lot of my ESB figures. At three years old in 1981 he loved biting their noses off. And it took my mum 5 attempts to get me a Bespin Security Guard without the head bitten clean off. I don't know what the little shit had against Bespin Security Guards but by Christmas 1981 my mum got me back all the ones he wrecked plus a Snowspeeder...my favorite Star Wars ship ever...
Hey Joey ,hope you remember me,we talked a lot last year and I won one of your contest(graded sand person),I took a brake in collecting for about a year and talking about accessories , last week when cleaning my dad basement I found a little box full of Star Wars accessories and parts from my childhood which made me want to continue collecting.
I don't have a problem with the whitening process. To me it's not alternating the figure because you're just cleaning it. Cleaning it with soap and water feels like the same thing. Yellowing is unintentional. Paint wear is different, repainting is altering the originality and applying replacement stickers. The plastic is still the same, just cleaned. Thanks for the videos👍
Whitening is not a permanent fix for yellowing and plastic degrading. I know it can often revert to its original discolored state in a few short years and make plastic brittle. I think it's great that people like to restore figures, especially if they're in terrible shape, but it can be deceptive to future buyers if a figure has been whitened and may revert.
Collectors should absolutely make their own rules about what they choose to include. Much as I loved vintage Star Wars, the fun for me now isn't collecting, but revisiting those memories. Same goes for Transformers (my next obsession after Return of the Jedi sort of ended Star Wars toys for a while). Thanks for another fun video!
Another great G&A video! Restoring, whitening, or repainting, I think is up to the individual collector and how he likes the collection to look. I'm only against it if someone is trying to sell something but does not tell the buyer about the condition of the figure, toy set, or ship. I do restore and repair toys but either the ones I have in my collection or someone asks me to do so in one of his.
Great answer to my question. That's basically how I view it. I don't think of them as going with that particular box. I don't really collect the packaging so I don't care about a specific box. I managed to get a killer deal on the DV Tie Fighter backdrop about 20 years ago on eBay because the seller didn't know what they had and the other bids also didn't seem to know what the seller had. Not really sure I'm going to get the Slave 1 backdrop as these normally too hard to found. But you never know, you can always get lucky.
hi Joey, I used whitening on a r2 d2 pop up that no longer had a sticker and was in poor condition. I don't have the budget for one in good condition, the prices are crazy! The result is pretty good for my collection, I added a custom sticker, it's the only one of my R2s like that. Great episode as usual!
Whitening figures is down to the individuals personal choice, personally I've never had to do it and I've heard that the bleaching effect fades quickly and the yellowing returns. The only real buying regret I have is turning down a Lightsaber R2 with an original Saber for £75 for one with a repro for £50 (this was in about 1996) and now they can go for around £300! OOF! Bad choice, egg on face... 😑😂
I once passed a vintage Bwing pilot that was too steep to pay because the seller thought the figure was very rare. Should I regret it for not buying it at a steep price? the codition of the figure is almost to a beater figure
I buy cheap beater stormtroopers for army building and whiten them all. Most have loose limbs and aren't worth much. I wouldn't whiten any figure that has significant value or colors that might fade. I would disclose the treatment if I ever sold them, but like I said these are cheap beaters that I'm sure no one would care about the whitening of.
You need to correct the beginning of this video. Although the message is right. You do say: "Let me be very, very, very clear. You should never be putting things in life before your hobby, specially if you have people depending on you."

How can any of us disagree with Mr. Sansweet 🙌🏼
Great Series Joey. I look forward to more!

Thanks for watching Barry! When I was a kid I don’t remember watching the Star Wars movies but I remember listening to the read along book :).

Ever whiten a Stormy Luke?

Hey guys. I'd need your help. Would you go rather go for a 90+ rated cas/afa loose figure or for a moc figure about the same price. Thank you
Really need more info specifics - if it was a DT Vader I would say MOC cuz those are so rare. So really need you to fill in a specific figure
@@thepadawancollectorofficial "just" a luke skywalker jedi 1983 taiwan. Thanks a lot
@@thepadawancollectorofficial and thanks for your effort. Makes it easier for a newbie

Hey Anthony I’ll def read this on an episode but never buy something at a steep price when there is always one for better condition at a better price
@@thepadawancollectorofficial thank you for your advice highly appreciated it
There are always regerts…😂

I kept to my collecting budget....I just can't buy anything else until April 2026 when my funding catches up with my past purchases. 😂
Haha that actually made me laugh! I’m in the same boat brother!
I know you were asked about regrets but my question has more to do with triumphs- what was a purchase you made that you considered a great one?
hey! that cartoon wasn't dumb!! 🙂
Which cartoon???
Droids. I meant that commen t for the guy who asked you. 🙂@@thepadawancollectorofficial
Does anyone make Star Cases or cost efficient display cases for the 6” retro carded figures?
Ya know I haven’t seen any yet, but I’ll do some research and answer that on my next Q&A
