You need to watch out for pick pockets while walking around the area. Beautiful place otherwise.
Visit the shop where Michael Angelo made the statue of David, the front door has two light blue/white flags hanging on top.

Fun fact : the Verrazzano mentioned in the video is probably the same as the Verrazzano bridge in New York City, named after Giovanni da Verrazzano. He was probably the first European in New York Bay in 1524 and he actually was from Tuscany, just outside of Florence.

@@TheTourGuyVids Ciao Colleen I had the advantage of spending a magic month in Florence...did a 4 week course on Art History at the Medici Institute and spent the weekends exploring nearby Tuscany and wore out a pair of shoes on the footpaths of Florence. Also had a magic train trip to Venice. When boarding the train the best tip from a fellow traveller was sit in the restaurant car instead of trying to find a seat elsewhere...don't know if this is still OK. It was funny stepping out of the station at Venice in the rain and of course water at your feet.
In Florence a great place to stay is The Gould Institute in the Oltrano...would love to go back but the idea of a long haul plane flight is offputting. When younger I worked for an Italian company so have great memories of Genoa, Naples, Sicily and Malta. Despite the funny hiccups that usually occur Italy is a magic place for a holiday and just always see the funny side of things Cheers Bev

The Ponte Vecchio originally housed members of the butcher's guild. It was one of the Medici (Lorenzo I think) that drove them out and replaced them with jewelers and goldsmiths. The Medici also had the hidden passage constructed above the shops connecting the Pitti Palace with what's now the Ufizi. I think there's the self-portrait gallery of artists in the passage (I think! Someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

I followed him. To the trena. Moral of the story is the island of Capri is a different time zone than the nearby city of Napoli. I tipped the guy the last 10 euros I had to my name. I had no more money left for Roma, just my ticket back home.

May I also highly suggest VYTA Fine Food located in the lower level of the Florence Santa Maria Novella Train Station!!!! A high-end looking Wine and Cheese store and bistro, but don't let that intimidate you. It was the absolute BEST Charcuterie plate we had in Italy along with a glass of wine. We were SHOCKED when we went to pay for it! It was only 12 euro!!!!!!!!!!! Incredible Charcuterie at an incredible price!!! We're still talking about it and the design of the place is stunning!!!!
