Not in the whole of Caribbean. Many of my friends love and prefer my darker sisters. That maybe the case in Jamaica, Haiti but the smaller islands don't bleach.
Angel Sweet I’m white but I agree with your comment. It’s no comparison but I have black hair and always think I would be more accepted with bleached blonde hair. It seems that blondes get preferential treatment, and seen as more beautiful. It’s a horrible feeling, because bleach does severe damage to hair, but to witness society be more accepting to people with light skin and light hair, makes us want to self destruct and this is something that globally needs to change...
@@restlessnreal107xx7 I hink that comparison is spot on. It's a problem of not feeling desired and rejected. And to continue with your analogy blondes are also less respected in the workplace, in society, ''the dumb blonde'' is a stereotype that ''even'' so called dark skin women don't experience.
Spice is basically telling Mimi about the struggles of being a dark-skinned black woman. However, Mimi may never understand that because she doesn't have that kind of struggle where she was mocked for her skin-tone, not feeling accepted whether its by family, business and relationships. Spice is showing that Mimi is privileged because she has a LIGHT-SKIN TONE.

@@simplyjustronnie6852 she's basically telling her to not call out on black hypocrosy whereas to stay to the typical standard of African American beauty
"Blackness" is beautiful!!! You can love anybody regardless of the colour their damn skin. Being light is a headache but to be dark skin is a heartache because so many people suffer discrimination from other races plus within their own communities. Education needs to be a strong tool to educate the generations to come🤗🤗🤗
I hear what spice is saying about her completion but not everyone feels that bleaching their skin is the answer... She's gone end up looking like lil Kim... 1st its skin color next it'll be more plastic surgery on her body then onward and upward... Just love yourself and love whatever shape, color, hair texture & etc you're blessed with...
Wanda The Wonderful spice said if she talks about black hypocrisy while she’s in her blackface light skin people won’t understand. The same with white people not listening when black people talk about racism. But when it’s a white person (Jane Elliot) white people listen.
She doesn't really want to bleach her skin. I think this whole thing is just her ok wn personal social experiment to see how people react to her with her skin lighter. She Is right and definitely needs to use her platform to be heard. Light skin women won't really get it until they are rejected or "preferred " to someone with lighter skin than them. Its a social conditioning that will take generations to be corrected. I HOPE WE GET THERE.
Im glad they are having these conversations however, when that man told Spice to change her look a couple episodes back he didn't mean she should bleach her skin. She automatically assumed that is what he meant and made it about her complexion. Oh yea and Mimi is annoying af and always does the most..🙄😒
I think they are just tweaking/trying to relate the story line more to fit Spice’s music/message. I understand and support her message but this show has been fake for a long time.
It all goes together light skin women get to be naked and wear whatever and they are praised darker skin women who wear certain clothes are categorized as hoes or thots she is tired of the changes she has to make because she is darker skinned!
But this is what happens a lot of times...someone's insecurity could be their skin color and with everything they hear they directly relate it to their insecurity. I'm sure it's only to promote her story line but this is only fuel for the blogs that want to believe colorism is their issue when in reality it's really not.
I think she took it as that because she was used to people talking about her skin like people may have said if she never suh black she woulda more famous
Thank you Love and Hip Hop for a real discussion that is affecting our people....The basis of this conversation is knowledge through facts vs knowledge through experiences
I think spice is right 💯 every country has a different way of doing their own thing. Being darker skin in Jamaica doesn’t give you the same opportunity as when your lighter skin. It’s sad but it’s true. Society just needs to except us for whatever skin tone we are.Everybody has their own way of looking at it. But she’s an adult so she feels like that’s her way of getting the point across I think she should be able to have that right every country has a different culture of a different way of doing things that’s just life
The biggest issue I feel like was that both girls weren't *listening* to each other. They were trying to get their points across without trying to understand what the other was saying. So yeah there's that. Now considering the *facts* of the matter, Mimi was wrong. Yes both women are black but as a *darker* skinned woman she went through *more* discrimination than a lighter skin girl. And we as a community do it to ourselves.
This is actually one of the better story lines promoted on the Love & Hip Hop platform. This is a dialogue that is prevalent in our society and needs to be discussed and people need to see the perspective from BOTH sides. There is no "right and wrong" it is all perspective from each individual's experiences. All black people do not experience the exact same kind of racism all of the time. They also didn't grow up in the same culture or with the same parental upbringing. For ONCE in LAHH history I can see a positive in a storyline; Please don't make me eat my words Mona!!!!! 🙇🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️

Just because black woman straighten there hair doesnt mean we didnt value our hair wanted to be white. ( 1:35) It just means we wanted variety... Not everyone wants to wear an afro all the time although Afos are beautiful! At times we like just switch it up
Spice wants to break open the conversation and make it honest and transparent. She got rid of the gas lighting by doing her bleaching stunt and I applaud her for it! Being dark-skinned IS a different struggle than being light-skinned, especially around colorist people. Considering the little bit of protection dark-skinned girls and women get from colorists or really our own communities, how quickly we are considered angry and malicious yet "strong" enough to deal with more BS than the average default women in society are expected to deal with, Spice really brought her points home with this video and I hope we can progress from dialogue and mutual understanding.
As a lighter skinned woman I can say I agree with Spice 1000000%. I've experienced situations where I was preferred over my darker cousin she was more like a sister. Even as kids when we played certain games to the men who like us to certain opportunities that we got. I was always favored and I know that it is a huge issue within the black community.
I think Spice is using her platform for a good cause. As a darker skin woman many people treated me different. I love the way Mimi tried to explain her point of view but Mimi doesn't know until she has a relative experience it. Few days ago I was watching Erica Campbell show when her daughter told Mrs. Campbell how she felt. This is a serious issues around the world that we need to let our children know their skin color, and body shape is beautiful.
The lighter skin/ darker skin issue is deeply rooted in the African/ African-American culture. What I don't like is Spice is assuming that she is the only skin color that experiences cultural hate. Yes both skin tones experience it.That does not mean Spice's experience is void because a light skin woman experiences hatred as well and vice versa. Being a light skin woman, I have had people try to fight me just because I was light skin or assume I was better than them because of my skin tone and even go so far to threaten to cut my hair off because it was long. What the Black community needs to understand it goes both ways. Being light skin, they always want to take away my blackness with statements like you must be mixed you not just black or I bet you got money. I grew up in the hood struggling with no food, gas, water, and lights so what makes my skin tone not experience these things. I can't speak on a dark-skin woman's experience but she can't speak on a light skin's experience either. But what we can do is acknowledge that both of us have experienced hateful experiences.
Spice is completely right.....there is nothing wrong with our hair. It is a form of self hate. Period. Afro textured hair is not stressed. It’s chillin and curlin’. ✊🏿
Girl yes. Remember coming to America? "What you use in your hair? Nothing but juices and berries" love my dark skin, and unstressed afro. It rep who I am and God created me BEAUTIFULLY.
Spice has a very valid point... Funny how she’s questioning Madame CJ Walker and straightening natural African American hair, whilst wearing a 28” BLUE WIG. 🤔
Shelayne Dowman she saying if she talks about black hypocrisy while In black face light skin people won’t pay attention. But with light skin they will. The same when we talk about racism white people dont care. But when the message comes from a white Person (Jane Elliott) everyone listen. The same way her message is coming from her wearing blue hair and you’re not listening. You’re making fun of her message because of the hair she has.
We all go through it being black. This colorism issue is another divide to pit black against black. I'm a lighter skinned black woman (think black coffee with 1 cream). Just because im lighter doesn't strip away the fact that I go through it. However I see Spice's point and why she's going HARD. colorism is a huge issue everywhere but I feel that it's a major issue in the entertainment industry. Zoe Kravitz, Zendaya, are great/subpar actors but Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Lupita Nyong'o, etc are powerhouses but are overlooked because of their darker complexion. The only reason why Lupita received as much glory she did was because she played a slave well. Those are the only roles darker skinned women excel in and its depressing. Theres so much more than that. But they are never given the opportunity unless they play a breakout slave role or a maid. For some reason in America and the industry lighter skinned black women are more "visually appealing" (which is BS because there is unnattractiveness in every shade, so i dont get it) and can go up the ladder quicker. In the US Spice should have BEEN received grammys for her dancehall music. On the opposite end if someone like Beyonce or Rihanna released a reggae or dancehall album the sales would skyrocket immediately. We need to support each other in EVERY shade and go harder for our darker skinned kings and queens. I'm not here to argue with anyone. I want to know if I hit the nail on the head or if someone can build onto the discussion WITHOUT being scathing or defensive. Much love xoxo
I'm lost. Spice is talking about “black hypocrisy” and all that stuff, but has a straight wig in the confession part of the show, with a curly long weave wile filming 🤔🤔

This scene is really ironic. Mimi is arguably wrong (and I would say she *IS* wrong) at 1:56 when she says that straightening our hair and lightening our skin is "totally different." Madame C.J. Walker's legacy is actually controversial precisely because she popularized the practice of hair-straightening. *BOTH* hair straightening and skin bleaching are products of the racist, Eurocentric beauty norms that Black people have internalized over the centuries. Spice is absolutely right at 2:45 when she pointed out that "Black hypocrisy is not just about your skin color; it's also about your hair texture." I made the same point in a recent RUclips video of mine: ruclips.net/video/VpS8U1MB-U8/видео.html

And she is talented sure but there are dark skin female rappers like a remy ma who are far more talented and seasoned and lets be frank remy am will never have the level of success that a cardi b has just because of her dark skin.... think that’s why LIL KIM has bleached her skin over the years because she also realize that being of darker complexion people won’t check for u.... funny how Mimi saying all this yettt you have a legendary LIL KIM bleaching her skin looking crazy in these streets sooo what’s there to understand about what spice is trying to teach u... when you have a prime example in ur own America hip hop/rap community 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Mimi can’t think straight tooo much pressing combs used in her hair
@@restlessnreal107xx7 the whole "Gentlemen perfer blondes" or "Blondes have/are more fun" stereotype.

Uhm when will y’all realize that whites hate us too?
As a afro-Caribbean woman is obvious to see that mimi wants spice to convort to the American standard of black beauty whereas not to tip-toe over that line to make it look not too obvious

Wanda The Wonderful she didn’t bleach her skin it was makeup 💄😂😂😂😂
Kadisha P and she was right. Jamaicans said she looked good when she turned white.
I think he meant her ugly weaves and her wardrobe-not her skin, but she ran with it
But this is what happens a lot of times...someone's insecurity could be their skin color and with everything they hear they directly relate it to their insecurity. I'm sure it's only to promote her story line but this is only fuel for the blogs that want to believe colorism is their issue when in reality it's really not.
I think she took it as that because she was used to people talking about her skin like people may have said if she never suh black she woulda more famous
The darker the berry the sweeter the juice😏

I think spice is right 💯 every country has a different way of doing their own thing. Being darker skin in Jamaica doesn’t give you the same opportunity as when your lighter skin. It’s sad but it’s true. Society just needs to except us for whatever skin tone we are.Everybody has their own way of looking at it. But she’s an adult so she feels like that’s her way of getting the point across I think she should be able to have that right every country has a different culture of a different way of doing things that’s just life
I really like spice. This is the only clip of love & hip hop I’ve EVER seen that didn’t feel like it was scripted.
3:50 nahh as a dark skin I felt that part low key😩

Remember that the light skin people also experience colorism from darker skin. It is a painful cycle. Imagined being told you are not black enough.
I’m sorry but I would never bleached my skin for that reason but I do understand both sides those
She didn't bleach her skin. It was to prove a point
Just because we all black, don't mean we all face the same discrimination. Period
That's why Spice did say "Some" black ppl
Spice your color is beautiful ! Love black color (Africa) 😍🤩
Oh lawd, Please don’t ratchet up the museum!! So glad they got their asses OUT!
Spice is 100% correct Mimi is hard headed
She annoying
♥️♥️👌👌👌👌👌👌👊👊👊👊👊👊 you ain't lying sorry that happened to you !

I agree with spice 1000 percent......but in the same breath (in my opinion ) it's no one's fault your born the way you are. We in 2019 and still tryna justify the reason why bleach our skin and most of the comments here are agreeing with sky, what you agreeing with. Why was black of all shades created and exists, melanin is very beautiful its the only skin color and skin tone that no one can bleach into unless they black fish, that is how unique darker skin tone is.Its 2019 no matter how lighter you make your skin to be, its not gonna boost your self confidence, or your self esteem ,if you dont self confidence in who you are as a person , thats it, its about time darker skinned black women to rise up, take their mantle and shine.Lupita Nyon'go comes from the darkest skinned toned tribe in Kenya and am sure she was called names, teased but look her now,Danai as well with all their darkness, and so many other women thriving in the industry or even world .To young person who will ever read this, i hope you read this and know that you are beautiful in whatever shade of color that you are, do not listen to what the society says, create your own sound and hear your own voice and the Lord God your creator who tells you, you are beautiful, amazing and you are a queen and the only way someone else will treat you as such is when you do yourself.
Maybe back in the day but not now I hear ppl praising dark skin women and men .

Spice is absolutely right at 2:45 when she pointed out that "Black hypocrisy is not just about your skin color; it's also about your hair texture."
I made the same point in a recent RUclips video of mine: ruclips.net/video/VpS8U1MB-U8/видео.html
Black people face problems period 🤦🏽♀️. Light or dark we face the same problems in different ways. Saying one has it harder doesn't fix anything 🤦🏽♀️
Not acknowledging the disparity between the way the populations are treated is what doesn't fix anything. You can't cure a disease until you diagnose it first.
