Mr War Birds, I’m very keen to hear your thoughts on Masters of the air. Though I thought it was very well done, I did unfortunately walk away with a bitter taste in my mouth. Being a British citizen, I will say we did not get everything right when it comes to the bombing campaign. But I feel the show is unjust in some of the comments the characters make about British night bombing.
The cold fact is that the only real military effect the massive bomber streams had was the massive amount of resources they forced the Germans to expend to counter the campaign. Any damage done was in reality minimally effective. Hitting things we just a bonus. The difference was that the British night campaign essentially hit nothing at all. Daylight raids struggled to hit enormous factory complexes: the British night raids struggled to hit entire metropolitan areas. I can't yet speak to how the show treated it, but they were indeed appallingly inaccurate.
