A year late, but Nuno is one of the top five best 'rock' guitarist in the world! Via is stellar, but I consider him more of a jazz ( albeit with a rock influence) player.
Steve with his smooth distortion sound and a little shred, Richie with his legato technique and no picks allowed, Tom with his switching style of playing. Aren't they unique? None can be like them. Skill would be sucks when a fun jam comes. Hail to them!
As a bass player....I always hate that moment when everybody else on stage starts looking at you to do something impressive on bass when they have already stolen the show. It's like, "Seriously? I'm supposed to top that? I'm not Billy Sheehan for Christ's sake!"

Tom is a solid guitarist, and a very creative musician. However, the other 3 are not guitarists you want to share the stage with. Those guys know the fret board like their own heart beat.
Tom Morello is a musician first and a guitarist second. He once described his role in Rage as "the DJ". The others here are great and technically accomplished guitarists in addition to being great musicians.
I can't think of another guitar player that has changed his style as drastically as Richie Kotzen has...and for the good too.....everyone else was great too

Also the first lead guitarist for Megadeth (forget his name) I think he does classical music now And honorable mention to Buckethead simply for the sheer amount of stuff he put out that each sound completely different from each other...

In a pretty short time, you can se Tom Morello playing something like a solo, because in the most of the time, he just make noises with his guitar, but it's okay, it his style, even that I can't consider that, a solo. On the other hand, Steve Vai and Richie Kotzen, yes, those guys were playing a real solo.

And to all the Morello hate, he more than shows here that he deserves a place with the best of the guitar players. His technical ability is often overshadowed by his reliance on effects, but what he does, he does well

Probably because he is not used to playing in front of people or sharing the stage with other greats, good thing Tom was there to save him. Just brilliant tom morrello! He can play as fast and bad ass as those dudes, but he does something original, percussive and even sends the band into that dimension, as they all get inspired and start searching for ambient noises! Well done tom.... Awesome.
