SKIP was the kindest musician I ever met. When he was with the NRPS. He would see me in the audience and signal to me to come up and sit on the front of the stage on the big speakers. The kids from my old home town would be so envious of me. Wondering I guess why I had such special privilege. It was because SKIPP knew I had followed them all around the EAST COAST IN 1974, and up to TORONTO on that tour. When they played the ACADEMY OF MUSIC in NYC I slept in their moving van, an protected them in the ally for 2 nights as they played 2 shows a night. The first night when the band showed up at the backstage entrance I tried to walk in with them. The security guards tried to stop me; SKIPP put his arm out around me, and said "he is with me"... I sat backstage during both shows. Drinking their HEINEKEN WHILE BUDDY CAGE WOULD LOOK UP OCCASIONALLY AND GRIN AT ME.....
Agreed, I signed him to Signpost and produced this as well. A very cool vibe, Clarence White as well, world class.
I had the honor of signing Skip to Signpost and producing this. Skip was the real deal, pretty unusual for early 70s LA music scene. I miss him.
Great job on producing the album, Eric. It sounds like Skip was not only a talented musician but a decent man too. Regards.
That's great to know Eric, and great production on such an unusual LP! I've often wondered where the LP cover was shot, is that something you can recall?
Thank you for signing Skip! This is a great record!!
I live in Gallipolis, Ohio. Skip Battin grew up here. His work and persona is plain cool and wonderful. Love his bass solo with the Byrds in the Fillmore East's venue's last night in 1970. Video- *The Byrds - Full Concert - 09/23/70 - Fillmore East (OFFICIAL)* it's only 16min
Thank you.
Skip was a real talent...I love every song. This is an awesome record thanks for posting!

@@csidesound9491 you knew those guys? Thats fantastic! Thanks for taking care of business
@@FactsRFearless Back in the day, I was 23 when I signed Skip to Signpost and he asked me to produce it as well.
I had a rep back then, haha. Have a studio in Oregon with 24 Track Tape and make music like old days if you know anyone who can jam!
@@Eric-hq2zy I can't play but I still write
I love this album. Skip's great piano and bass, Kim Fowley's quirky lyrics, Clarence White's guitar - good stuff. McGuinn does a solo on Captain Video. So grateful for John Delgatto and his (now defunct, unfortunately) Sierra records for making available this and other unearthed rare stuff from Skip and other Byrd members
Secret...while we recorded McGuinn at Wally Heider Studios on the 12 String, Clarence the part on the record, even though Roger was credited....I know, I signed him to Signpost and produced this as well. A very cool vibe, Clarence White as well, world class.
@@csidesound9491 That is great!
@@csidesound9491 Do you know where this LP cover was shot? I have always been curious about the Eagle.
@@Dan-zr5em That is the backyard of Skip's house in Topanga Canyon. Probably why he bought it!!
@@Eric-hq2zy That's fascinating, I wonder if it still exists, do you know the location?
I'm right there! Bought it the day it came out...Byrds were my group of choice back then...
Country music in my soul .
Classic!. It’s good to hear this again after all these years. Thanks!
*Four Legs Are Better Than Two* is a tour de force in change ups!
Mitico Skip talento puro ann8 70
After listening to this all the way through, i unfortunately have to say that even though the sounds and writing of these songs fit the period, i do not hear anything that approaches a hit song. I laud Skip's efforts, but to me, and me alone, i could not see purchasing this record. Others may like it, and i would never deter anyone from doing so, for me it just doesn't resonate. May he RIP.
*St. Louis Browns* is a hit, just not a 'Billboard' hit. 😊
This is an album for many replays over years, repaying each moment of attention with wonderment
+ a smile ...after all
"Cheerful news was sadly rare"

Four legs are better than two is all over the place
Great tune. Vinyl mix is always better.
you have to listen this on original vinyl ( the cd is to sharp and lost to much bass)
CORRECT, I mixed it and you are on the money, another digital remaster fail!
According to the comments below there was no question he was a great guy. But this music is lacking. He voice and quirky lyrics reminds me of Arlo Guthrie. That's 30 minutes I'll never get back.
Have you listened to The Ballad Of Evergreen Blue shoes?
that's the price of risk..sometimes tho..it really pays off
