It should be noted the number of times DeLigt swept up behind our midfield and killed the attack before they got a shot off.... especially in the first half numerous times he was the one who stepped up and snubbed it out...
the XG doesn't show how much extra work and recoveries he had to do to keep it down

I dont think so. If you look at how much the feedback on Ugarte is to solve our midfield problem, this will drive media. Just like De Ligt. suppose to revolutionize our defense. Of the new guys, Mazroui is the one who impressed because he had the least spotlight.

    • @nightraveler

Ugarte isnt even that solid defensively. We had Amrabat who we invested 10 million loan and time as he finaly started to adapt to PL style of play at end of season yet we let him go when we needed solid defensive midfielders to use against tough oppostion and rotate in much more deep depth squad that compete in PL, Europa League, FA cup and Carabao. Ugarte is overrated and that is why PSG wanted to get rid of him. If Amrabat had a European or South American name he would be worth more than 50 million. I blame Ten Hag for being weak and i am sure thar with bruno, Rashford, Maguire, Ugarte and dalot we will be still shit even with different manager.

Who most importantly to some fans, would help us play from the back, would be a sweeper keeper, would make us play higher up the pitch, would cut out and claim crosses. According to some, all of this was far more important than the basics of simply being able to save a shot.
When will fans realise you can’t simply take a player from 1 team and drop him into United and expect him to be the same. You can take Haaland out of City and believe me he won’t be the same player.

Idk how to feel, but i have a few points:
    1. Mainoo and Casemiro dont work as a double pivot. Casemiro has shown time and time again that his role is not a deep lying playmaker. I dont understand why Ten Hag insist on letting him be the one to make plays from deep. But i also understand that we dont have a Toni Kroos esc player for United. Mainoo is comfortable on the ball, but he is not a progressive passer and he needs a player beside him who can alleviate some of the pressure from deep.
    2. Garnacho is better of the bench. Dont understand why Ten Hag choose to bench Amad for this game. Yeah, Garnacho has pace, but his decision making was horrible yesterday
    3. We were unlucky sometimes. The first 20 minutes of the game was good, and we did put the pressure on them. The issues was some of the individual players was not up for it yesterady. Casemiro, Lisandro, Garnacho etc. was not good enough, and all of the blame cant go to Ten Hag

`1. Won't happen until EtH is fired - the two of them are interlinked. Arguably, the best GK hope for the future has just been loaned out for the season. God only knows why Heaton is still on staff as a player and not as a coach.
      2. Casemiro made mistakes. But so much stems from this. The backline is new together , although showing promise. Why does EtH revert to huge transition areas in the middle? Any no 6 is going to suffer under this crazed system - which does not excuse Casemiro's errors. However, equally, what system is EtH playing which means a mistaken pass in midfield must lead to a goal?
      3. Agreed. But all the evidence is that he is stubborn and unlikely to do so. Not even Harry Potter will save EtH from the chop.
      4. Team morale depends on leadership and team building - the latter takes time which we do not have in abundance., When EtH is fired, expect to see the captaincy pass to Martinez or de Ligt.
      5. Agreed, I would go as far to say that if EtH survives this last weekend, a loss to Soton will seal his fate.
And you can certainly argue that he has been let down: the accountants approach by Ineos to culling the bench until it is wafer thin is certainly going to be 'interesting'' when United transition to 2 games per week. And frankly, the inability to buy or take on loan Sterling or Toney (or similar) is going to bite them very hard. He may not have been the best but selling McT to buy Ugarte seems like an extravagance when they could have bought Amrabat for cheap as chips and retained McT -. and still have bought another striker if Sancho had been sold for cash this year.

Simply put yesterday, casemiro’s fading quality caused us big issues for the goals. Mainoo was left vulnerable for the 3rd too! Too easy to squeeze us.

The first goal was all on Casemiro. He shouldn't be giving away the ball in his position.
However, the second goal was all of Mazraoui, Casemiro, Dalot and Martinez. Mazraoui shouldn't be playing the ball into Casemiro when he's surrounded by 6 Liverpool players. That said United had men back. Dalot needs to be pressing Salah better to stop the cross and when the cross comes in, Martinez needs to be tighter to Diaz.
The third goal Mazraoui plays it into Mainoo who is also surrounded by 4 Liverpool players. Mazraoui dives in and Dalot is out of position leaving them in a 4v2.
Man United should have signed a ball playing central midfield who is comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and who can actual control the tempo of a game. A player like Toni Kroos is needed in Man United's midfield. Kroos is press resistance and can pass through opposition presses.
Ugarte isn't the solution. Man United need a Toni Kroos in midfield.

Casemiro is vulnerable to making cock ups , which was proven time and time again and with the full backs so far up the field it is not possible to recover. 2, Selecting Rashford who consustantly has shown all last season that he does not contribute and nullifies our attack on the left. 3. Simplistic view maybe...I have coached a bit at senior level, I feel pace and physicality in the centre is a bit lacking Bruno is not physically strong enough to scrap, that edge that Mainoo had battling for it and then knowing what to do with it quickly...he is only one of that level of quality all around...Ugarte will probably be a big help just due to legs...however the width is an issue...Play breaks down too often and players not able to read each other's movement and next pass. I personally feel Garnacho and Amad are the left and right respectively on form. I would have played Fernandes in the false 9 and had Collyer in for the additional legs and let Mainoo play a little further up. Retrospect is great...lol but genuinly we are more secure with the false 9 as its effectively an extra centre midfielder and the wingers higher position doesn't leave us exposed.

Garnacho certainly isn't going to score 10 goals if he keeps being benched and played out of position when he does play to accommodate Rashford, who could play every minute of every game this season and still not score 10. ETH's biggest mistake yesterday was dropping Amad, his other big mistake was not dropping Rashford and playing Garnacho out of position. Nobody should be able to touch Amad this season, that RW position should be his all season, the choice should only be between Rashford and Garnacho on the LW, and I believe that Rashford has now done more than enough to play himself onto the bench.

What I've noticed from the charity shield and the opening 3 games is this.
Onana is the worst GK the club's ever had. He should save their third goal. He's a CB with gloves. I can't stand how awful he is. Nothing in football has ever bugged me more than him in our goal.
Mount is actually integral to our tactical shape because he's incredibly versatile and disciplined tactically. He fills in the holes that Bruno vacates without any big fuss. We are much more compact with him in the team, and so opponents can't play through us as quickly. It's why Casemiro looked good in patches. He's missed big chances to score in the initial two games of the season. Or we'd be raving about his impact.
Thus we are most solid and the midfield area is most compact with Bruno as a false 9. With two high wingers that invert and are a goal threat.
Rashfords demise is born from him losing a yard of pace. Giggs went through this and was garbage for a year before adapting. I think Rashford needs to play down the middle or not at all. His attitude seems better and ETH will die on his shield trying to play him back into form, in my opinon.
    Ugarte is Ander 2.0
Fans are frothing about him now, but keep the same energy you all gave Scott, in a few months when everything is going backwards and sideways. You can't be a ball winning machine in the spaces we leave in midfield. Teams will pop it around him all day.
Casemiro is one of the best holding midfielders of the last 15 years. He's not the problem. Ten Hags kick-chase, playground tactics are the problem. Anyone at 32 trying to knit that back four to the front 5 with the spaces that are left in between would drown.
We play a counter attack style but without the deep, compact shape to sensibly invite the opponent on first, before breaking quickly. We just press with a high 5, with one protection pivot player, and then have the back 4 nowhere near high enough to compensate. With no thought to who we are playing, where their danger players are on the pitch at any given time, and what the fucking score currently is.
Its' a recipe for disaster, and has been a disaster since the Carabao final.
We've bought ETH half his Ajax team to play nothing like Ajax did. It's baffling. I liked him initially but I hate watching how shit we are.
Ste rellies on stats too much, they often give a false narrative of the way the game feels. Liverpool were efficient and often wasteful, particularly second half. That was no more an even game than Onana is a competent keeper.
I don't know where we go from here to be honest.

Both Casemiro and Rashford would be good (if not great) players in a system that works. United doesn't have any style of play or system that works. If you watch any other team, it's clear what they want to do. Not the case with United. If something is done, it's done by an individual performance/move or an oppo mistake, which is rare and can't be relied on. Realistically, I'm afraid Ugarte won't make much of a difference.

I caught the first half before starting work, and i thought we looked okay right up until that first goal went in. De ligt looked solid, martinez was okay, mazraui was decent, mainoo showed why hes been relied on, and dalot was brilliant. Casemiro let us down with his mistakes, bruno kept giving the ball away, trying to play hollywood passes when a simple ball through the middle of their defence was on. Garnacho is a super sub, but sub par when starting, zirkzee couldnt get into the game, and rashford keeps killing the ball, rather than getting it out of his feet and running with it. I worry about onana, he passes the ball well under pressure, even when it looks like he held the ball too long, but his actual goalkeeping skills are awful.

Thing is that after that point, Slot changed Liverpools tactics but Ten Hag didn’t adapt at all.
