I really, really like your gentle way of weaning. Ive never seen that before, and it always broke my heart to hear the cow's desperate cries for her baby when it was time to wean. The mother instinct to love and protect that God put into all of us makes me not want to do that to any animal. This seems so much easier on them both, and what a great job you all are doing helping them gently through it!❤ Thank you for showing us this!
I love when we get a surprise video, especially seeing Brenda and the sweet baby calf! So cute when the cat jumped on Brenda's back. So exciting for the boys! Love, love, love your homestead and your way of life. Gods' continued blessings to you, Ruth Ann, and your family! Patsy
Congratulations to Miss Brenda, Sunny girl is so beautiful. Congratulations to the Zimmermans family for such wonderful farm values. Spring is so great with all the new life. Great educational video, thank you RuthAnn.
Yea for Sunny and Brenda! Love how you explain everything to us so clearly. I’ll probably never own a dairy animal, so your sharing is such a treat! Blessings, Marie
I’m absolutely totally in love with Miss Sunshine! Thank you for this wonderful surprise! Brenda did an amazing job! I especially love watching the little boys interact and care for the animals. They’re definitely living their best life! What a joy! God bless, Ruth Ann! ❤️🙏
Wow…a beautiful new life comes to the farm….Brenda did brilliantly and I love her soft moos over her baby. Sunny is a lovely name…really suits with her colouring! Good job Zimmerman family….Ruth you are outstanding at animal wifery!!! X Wonderful tip about the molasses water!
That calf playing with the chicken!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Your children are blessed to learn and experience so much. Blessings to you all.
Awwwww, warm water with molasses after giving birth is so kind of you, she looked to really love it ❤ Seeing sunny play with that rooster was so cute ! What a wonderful, happy barnyard !!!! God Bless your home and family 🙏🏻
Oh my goodness….what a beautiful, informative video. Congratulations to Brenda and your family on the new addition. Don’t know how you do everything you do, in addition to providing us with the gorgeous film and narrative.
So sweet! Watching reminds me of summers with grandma when I was young. I love seeing how your family works so well together. That’s what family means to me, a loving cooperative helping each other. May God Bless you in all that you do!
Hi! Congrats on Sunnys birth! Great news Brenda is is doing well with no complications. You explained this process and the reasons why you do things very well. TY for sharing!
Your such a good teacher along with everything else. Love watching the two boys work together to get Sunny to drink. The eclipse may be why Brenda birthed early. They say animals are very sensitive to an eclipse. Sunny is cute. 🤗
Congratulations on the new baby, Sunny, and a healthy mom! Love seeing Sunny already trying to butt the chicken. Your method of raising a brand new baby is one I would subscribe to if I were a farmer. It is so much less stressful. I've heard the ruckus when babies are weaned the other way, and it's terrible! I always enjoy watching your family life on the farm, RuthAnn. Thank you for sharing.
You are such a kind, loving farm animal owner. I appreciate the wisdom you share about how to take care of animals. Thank you for a fun and loving video.
Yay I love it when we get a surprise video from homesteading with the Zimmerman‘s. I look forward every Saturday to a new one, but today was a real bonus. Ruth Ann, I love the way you produce your videos and include so much of what’s going on on the farm and what’s going on with you and your children. I love that you shine for the Lord. God bless all of you.
What a learning video! I so enjoyed this. Looks like Sunny is a redhead! RuthAnne, you amaze me with your knowledge and energy. I love how the boys become friends with the animals even lying down in the calf pen! This brings so much joy to me! God is good!!
Isn't it amazing the way God as made all these things work together. I'm so impressed by all you know about your animals and the way you are able to explain it so clearly. Isn't that calf just the cutest little girl! Those big eyes are adorable.
You do a great job of explaining your reasoning for folks that are not that familiar with the barn animals. It certainly makes sense and it is your farm and you have to do what works best for you and your family. I’m glad Mom and baby calf are healthy.
Huh. Interesting. I've never heard of the molasses bit before but now it makes sense (maybe?) why there was a vat of molasses in the barn at the end of the live-action 101 Dalmatians.
This is so wonderful. There is a new homesteading and self sufficiency movement. So many of those beginning have so much to learn. Also, those who were fortunate to be raised in the lifestyle, but need to remember how and why again are just loving your and your family's sharing your life. Well, in my circle anyway. I mean really, don't we all have favorite dishes that we haven't memorized or need to make sure we have the proportions right? Its the same way with chores and work. I'm a great grandma now. Even so, my hands move to your rhythms and work. I have such a sweet spot for the manners and look of the Jerseys and their sweet calves. And the pigs, though my hair still raises on the back of my neck in caution to a mama sow. LOL. I am missing my sister who has gone before me to the arms of our Lord. You all remind me of us.
At one part of our farm life, someone was “gifting” us with more little Jersey bull calves than we could almost handle! I think I was between 2 jobs (forced retirement from one and hadn’t started the next), and it was a good thing! At least one group, we were mixing 12 bottles per feeding. I would do the bottles and small calf grain, water and hay while my husband did the big boys😊 We were getting so many influxes of calves, we couldn’t even clean out the barn floor before more arrived😮. At 68 now, I wouldn’t want to do it again for more than one or two at a time.
What a beautiful calf!!! I love her color and those lashes, OYE!!!! So glad to see everything is going well and all are happy and healthy!! God bless!!
Congrats - Sunny is beautiful. You are such a caring, hardworking person. You are full of knowledge and common sense. I totally admire you. The boys are awesome helping as they learn. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the extra video, what a treat. Sunny is beautiful and Brenda is such a good mom. You and your family are great stewards of your animals. It seems a little sad to separate them, but she still is in close proximity to her calf, and all around good for them both. You can see the joy and excitement in your faces of this beautiful addition to your homestead. Love this video!!!
Our first calf we decided to keep the mom and baby together and we milked morning and night. The calf never stopped nursing even as an adult. We had to sell the cow which was sad but couldn’t keep her on our small farm. We learned a valuable lesson to separate after birth but kept close.
I love your beautiful animals they are gorgeous. You are so kind and caring as well as very knowledgable. How do you know so much? Congratulations to Brenda the calf is adorable 🥰
Congratulations. Sunny looks like a healthy calf. Brenda is lucky that all of you take such good care of her and her newborn. You are correct. God is good.
It’s so funny how Sunny was trying to get the chicken out of its room! I guess she just wanted her privacy! So adorable! Wish I had land to have a dairy cow.
You know exactly 💯 what to do, I've never seen a calf nursed by a bottle 🍼🍼🍼, the boy's did a great job too😊❤ Sunny is beautiful and Brenda likes being close❤
Nothing better than spring on the farm. I learn so much about cows! Thank you! I’ve had 9 foals and OMG the Stress until they are on the ground and everyone is ok! As a kid we had a Sunny milk cow 😉
Oh my goodness! Watching Brenda drink down her Molasses Water was so adorable! Like a tasty treat for them!!!! I bet she was thrilled! The calf is so sweet!!!!
Thank you for sharingthis beautiful experience with us. I always learn so much from you & your family. Never can tell when what we've learned will be valuable information at just the right time.
Congratulations on your new calf Sunny!!! I hope she will provide a part of your family and have Brenda a part of your family and provide milk for years to come. God bless.🥰❤️🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦
So sweet. Baby farm animals are so cute 🥰. I laughed watching her trying to play with the chicken. I know zero about any of this, and yes I see how some people want to equate human emotions to animals, and there is a mother instinct at play here with Brenda when she can’t see her calf but she doesn’t seem upset that Sunny isn’t drinking from her. That’s where human feelings get confused I think. As I said I know zero about any of this, but I know that you treat your animals very well and are very knowledgeable about them. I totally trust you to see to their best care. I know there was some confusion about this on Instagram. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment and this learning opportunity. ❤
Your devotion to being a good steward to all your lives on your farm is inspiring and admirable. You are a blessing to your family.
Ditto! What a awesome video.

Brenda is one chill Mama. I laughed at Sunny running that rooster out of her stall. That must be the one that announced her arrival! 😄
Sunny must have thought that rooster was her toy, lol
