People take issue with his stance on slavery being a choice because it completely ignores the fact that slavery isn't _just_ a mindset of submission, it's a material reality that is forced upon people, using every mechanism in the arsenal to try to break them into being mentally enslaved, too. Kanye comparing changing his name to Ye to Cassius Clay changing his name to Muhammad Ali is absurd. The reason it was important for Ali is that Cassius Clay, even though it was the name of a famed abolitionist, still came ultimately from the names given to slaves by their masters to strip them of their identities. I can understand changing West, but Kanye is not some white, American slave name, it’s a Yoruba name.

Abolitionists were almost all outspoken Christians, going back to Quakers being the first to make slavery illegal in northern colonies. Meanwhile the south used the bible, which does explicitly talk about how to properly treat your slaves according to the Christian faith (if you beat them to death, you should pay for that, but if you beat them so that they are incapacitated for a couple days, that's totally fine) to justify slavery as a practice and institution. History rarely only has one perspective on a subject.

No one is "baiting" him. He is choosing to take his discussions where he does. However, I agree it is sad. My mother was bipolar like him. When she was off her meds for a long time she would have erratic behavior like this. It is VERY IMPORTANT to understand that bipolar or schizophrenia does NOT make you suddenly become racist. However it DOES allow you to fall down rabbit holes and develop very twisted views. The main contributor for that is the paranoia that you cannot escape.
He is in a very difficult place. The meds he needs to take do have side effects that will curb your perceived creativity. They can also just make you feel "out of it", so I TOTALLY get why he stopped taking them. It's sadly common. Once you have gone so far, it become virtually impossible for your loved ones to step in and help you get back on the right path. I empathize with those around him that feel (and essentially are) helpless. The fact that he is as well known, wealthy, and powerful actually makes it harder because though he has more resources to get help, he has more resources to evade it. Hopefully his support system will be able to find a way to step in sooner rather than later.
Lastly, just remember that his (or anyone's for that matter) illness is not an excuse for racism. It's not a symptom or manifestation either. His obsession with discussing it at every opportunity IS a symptom. He's been through a LOT over the years so he is ultimately stronger than he gets credit for. He just very lost right now. If he can be convinced to just step out of the lime light for a while, he can get a chance to breathe and get the help he needs.
As a Jew, I will never understand the obsession with us being in control of everything. A lot of these people could use going to a Jewish person's house for Passover dinner. It would be an eye opener.

What he's saying makes sense in theory: If a person can casually say "all men are X" or "women would be better if they did Y" then why can't he say the same about Jewish people without being compared to the Nazi's?
Problem is, people deal with men and women every hour of their lives, literally every minute in the case of being a man or a woman. Jewish people on the other hand are encountered so rarely that opinions about them are almost always based on stereotypes and propaganda. Very few people who aren't Jewish know what Jewish history and culture even entails.

The saddest thing with Kanye is he will never voluntarily get help. The only way he's going to get help is when the court orders him to after he physically harms or kills someone.
When he's manic, he will only ever feel like he's a visionary and won't get help. When he's depressive, he will feel that he's just in a temporary rough spot and that he doesn't need help. When he's lucid, he'll say to himself "nah I'm lucid right now, I don't need help" and then not get help.
