The Wall is the Vietnam War Memorial. Names etched on black stone in the order they fell. Every day, flowers, stuffed animals and other memorials are removed from the base of The Wall and are placed in storage.
Finally someone does some Statlers. I think you'd enjoy a lot of their music. Ranges from heartfelt to tongue in cheek. Also, Jimmy Fortune, who wrote the song and was primary singer on it, is a really stand up guy
Yes, he is! I used to babysit his younger kids when my brother and his son played baseball together. Good times. He's such a sweet guy. I grew up watching every 4th of July concert in my lifetime, until they ended. Very happy memories. This song still makes me cry though.
The Statler Brothers are an iconic quartet. They sang gospel and country music and at the The Grand Ole Opry. That wall is a memorial only for those lost during the Vietnam War!
As the spouse of a Marine who served in Vietnam, it was very emotional to see the Wall towards the end of the song. Lyrics were very touching, as well. Both of us lost someone special during that conflict. When the "Travelling Wall" came to our neck of the woods, we visited and had our moment to say goodbye. Thank you for your excellent review. I will repeat what others have already written, your patriotism, emotional display and loving care comes right through. God Bless You My Friend.
I have loved The Statlers all my life! Thank you for reacting to them! It would be a shame if they were forgotten after 40 years of making incredible music . So many great songs! My Only Love - Elizabeth - Do You Know You Are My Sunshine? - Too Much On My Heart - Am I Crazy? - Susan When She Tried -Woman Without A Home - I'll Go To My Grave Loving You - Jesus Take Another Look At Me- My Music, My Memories and You - I Don't Know Why. So many more! Enjoy. They Were Legends!!! I miss them! Hope you'll react to more of their music! Thank you for doing this! You're awesome!
I was in D.C. when the Wall was dedicated, will never forget, I knew some of those names, powerful monument, but yes they are all more than a name on a wall!
When you come to the US, I hope you will go to DC. I think it will be awesome for you. The Vietnam memorial is so moving, as are Arlington and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Air and Space Museum is spectacular (and fun as well). Gorgeous song, the Statler Brothers had amazing harmonies. Such a gorgeous tribute to those who gave all for us, and those who miss them desperately. Well done, as always!
Seeing the wall in Washington D. C. Is breathtaking! There’s people searching for their loved one’s name and people rubbing a pencil over paper to get a tracing of the name.
Thank-you !! Carla Joe :)) As a Medical Member of C.A.F ( CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ) WHO Served in Afghanistan, Iraq & in many other Deployments since, I remember our American Boys, singing the Song, " Counting Flowers on the Wall!, around a Camp fire one night ~~We, ALL AS N..A.T.O. joined in, WITH THAT DECK OF 51 !!! Love the Statlers. This song always gets me. So many gave all they had, and their families gave a lot via the sacrifice of losing their loved one. Thank you to all of you who have or are still serving!
Another wow!!!! It’s nice to hear the old songs coming back. The Statler brothers is a great country legend. I think you’d like some of the “old” songs they released.
I visited DC with my sons and some friends several years ago. We visited every monument and memorial and we talked about how beautiful they were, how much we respected and appreciated all who fought and died for us in the past and present. Just talked a lot, in general. When we came to the Vietnam Wall, I could not speak. I had seen it on tv and saw pictures of it, but to see it in person, how huge it is, SO many names, the photographs, flowers, teddy bears, etc left there by loved ones... I was left absolutely speechless. As another commenter said, it's breathtaking. All I could do was stand there with tears rolling down my face. One of my great-uncles was killed in WWII and my daddy was a veteran, so it's all very emotional for me. But something about that Wall just broke me.
Jean Strickland thank you so much for requesting this and Donfather thank you for your eloquent and heartfelt reaction. So many of these young men, actually kids got sent over to Vietnam never to come home again. They faced adversity prior to leaving due to all the protests and the ones lucky enough to come home were called “baby killers” , spat on, attacked etc. I had a friend in Houston who told me he wished that his name was on the wall as he would not have had to suffer the rejection when he came home physically fit but with deep internal wounds. Please remember our heroes that have fallen for our freedom… More importantly also remember those who have served and are now living in squalor. Just reflect as but for the grace of god it could be you living off of handouts. Thanks again and God Bless everybody on the channel…..

This song always brings tears to my eyes, this time was no exception. Thank you for listening. The Statler Brothers set the standard for quartet bands and had several crossover hits from country to pop charts. 3 of the original members are gone now but they left their mark on music.
There have been five members of the Statlers. Originally....Harold Reid, Don Reid, Lew Dewitt, and Phil Balsley. Jimmy Fortune replaced Lew when he developed health issues. Harold and Lew have passed, the other three are still with us.
@@TheWynch Nope, Don and Phil are still with us, though no longer performing. Jimmy Fortune is still performing as a Gospel solo act and also in a Bill Gaither sponsored quartet, called Brotherly Love, with Ben Isaacs, Mike Rogers, and Bradley Walker that is really good.
The Statlers (short "a") are a wonderful country quartet, with many hits to their credit. BTW none of them are named Statler, they got the name from a box of facial tissues! Countin' Flowers on the Wall may be their biggest hit.
@ Carla Jo..I was thinking about how they came up the with name of their band. Harold told that story at their farewell concert in Virginia. They are an amazing group!
I have a cousin and a dear friend on the wall. Sammy was an only child and he chose to go..he was killed a month before the end of his tour. My brother did 2 tours until he was shot..he wanted to go back but due to his injuries he wasnt able to. He had several medals. I know many men who served in Vietnam in the county which I reside..the moving Wall came and I seen the names of my friend Sammy..he was 20.. A touching patriotic song
I grew up hearing the Statler Brothers since the 1970s . They have a sound harkening to gospel music sung in churches throughout the south . I think the lineup of the band has changed a lot since then . In 1985 my mother and I attended a Statler Brothers concert in Greenville South Carolina . Many ladies threw flowers on the stage , and one lady tossed a wedding ring onto the stage and shouted " Marry Me !" Before their finale the lead singer thanked her for the proposal . He gave the ring to the police that were working security . He then said that she could recover the ring , and if she refused to accept it it would be donated to charity . Class Act .
When ever I hear this song I get tears in my eyes. We were told we were fighting the spread of Communism. Maybe, maybe not I don't know any more. I do know we were ignoring the spread of Communism back home.
We were most definitely fighting communism there. Those who say otherwise ARE Communists. Or in some cases are cynical ahistorical morons who have chosen to believe the lies of the Communists.
Don, this is the Vietnam Memorial in DC. As of May 4, 2021 there are 58,281 names on the wall. The number changes as more remains are found and repatriated. Also, thoroughly enjoy your channel.
There are quite a few Vietnam vets who have died secondary to their exposure to agent orange, the DDT laden toxic defoliant used quite liberally for a few years. The number who’ve died is in the thousands.
I was at the Vietnam Memorial wall once and it still gives me chills when I remember how every person approaching stopped so much talking as we went down the slanting walk and saw the names etched in that stone. It was like approaching, then entering church. Respect

As someone who had friends dreading their 18th birthday with the fear of being drafted to fight in Vietnam, I get quite solemn at the Vietnam War Memorial. Although the Wall touches my heart deeply, I think the most awe inspiring monument is the World War 2 Memorial. That touches me in ways I can't describe. I've seen the replica Vietnam Memorial Wall twice when it came to Goldsboro NC. A lot of young men and women died for our freedom. Makes you stop and think. I highly recommend seeing it when it comes to your town
Trace Adkins "Arlington" will punch you right in the gut. I just found your channel. You do a great job.
It was her son in the song George Jones 50000 names carved in the wall
The 2 times I went dc the only thing I wanted to see was the wall I was to young to serve then I just get a heartache every time I see it .
Have you done Some Gave All by Billy Ray Cyrus awesome song
Not yet
I served 69-72 USMC and I have never been to the wall as I am afraid I would just lose it and end up in a padded cell, there is over 58,000 names on that wall and a lot of guys I went to school with as well as served with on that wall.
Great reaction
Can you react to 50 thousand names on a wall by George Jones?
There are many covers of this song. Check out the Petersens'
