    I'm hearing a little more attack with the EC2s and definitely more of the "basketball" sound with the EC2 on the floor tom. Cheers for a great comparison video. I've been a single ply guy for the toms for years and neither of these heads have swayed me in that regard. I've always maintained that you can always dampen a single ply head if you need to cut sustain or overtones, but you can never liven up a double ply head. You're pretty committed with them.

    Drum Dogs... I really like following your Videos. I have a PDP Concept Maple kit. Bought it Used in 2021. I replaced the batter heads (kept the standard Reso Heads [Remo Ambassadors (?) single ply clear], with Evans G2s Coated per my drum store's opinion to use those as a good batter for maple kits. I'm 70, and resurrected playing drums after 50 Years (1969), for enjoyment & retirement hobby. I play about 1 hour a day to MY MUSIC. I have a difficult time learning & playing with the Tuning of Drums. I didn't do any of this in 1966-1969. I have been using an Evans E-Ring on the G2s to take out some of the Overtone Ringing (which I hate). Just tried the EC2s on my 16" Floor, and 10 & 12" Rack Toms. I left the G2 Coated on my 8" Tom - for now. I "think" I'm hearing a better Punch from the EC2s , but still using the E-Rings. I tried Remo Emperor Clears, and found that they work for my 14" Floor Tom with the E-Ring AND a small piece of Gaff Tape on the Reso head!! I don't play Gigs, [ Who knows....maybe a geriatric band may form in my area :) :) ] but I get a little Obsessive to try to get that Doooo, Doooo sound from my Toms (Jared at DRUMEO says it best). Be Well All. Any other Tips would be appreciated.

    I seen this video a few weeks ago and was trying to decide what heads to use. I seen more guys using EC2 heads. So after seeing this video and the comment made about the G2 heads, and talking to a friend that uses them. I put EC2 on all my batter heads. On the 16and 18 inch floor toms, I put the EC2 batter heads and put the G2 batter heads for RESO heads and they sound pretty dang good. I got the control on them I didnt have before with them DW factory heads. I am really happy with the set up I have and get plenty of tone separation between all of them.

I might give them another shot with my newly gained knowledge of Drum Tuning. To me, Drum Tuning is an ART. Your point about Keeping the Tuning is also a valid point. Even though I dont take my kit around (I play at home for retirement pleasure as a 72 year old), I have found that the Drums do Lose their Tuning Sweet Spots and require to be re-tuned now and Then. FYI. The G2s Coated do seem provide a Bit more "warmth" with maple Drums.

    The G2 and the EC2 are identical (save for the very thin dampening ring around the bottom of the EC2) .
    Funny thing tho, with the EC2, I was going for a little bit of dampening, and it's kinda there, but the reason I stuck with em ended up being very different...Yeah, there's a little bit of dampening on the EC2, but the entire drum just has a fatter sound...IE, lower and darker tone...more thunder.
    I had no idea this would happen, but it keeps me coming back to the EC2's.

      A very good vid guys. Although I'm a returning beginner drummer at 68 years old after a 50 year hiatus, I have become Obsessive about the sound of my drums. I have found that drum heads make big difference in the sound produced even using my cheap Grammon drumkit. Just got the EC2 frosted (semi tranlucent), batter heads . I also ordered G1 clears as resonant heads. I seek that nice phat Doo..... Doo....Doo sound, with just a little ring. This setup gave me a little too much overtone. Moongelling helped. Then swithched to the G1 clears as the batter heads, reign stalled the stock resonant cheap single ply resonant heads , and now have the dilemma of a strict comparison. Using moongells (2 on each tom), the G1s yield a very acceptable sound to my ear. I hate being obsessed 🤔

    How was the Reso Heads Tuned? I'm a Novice at drum tuning as previously commented, and I just can't achieve these sounds out of my Toms... Either G2 coated , Remo Emperor Clears or EC2s Clear - I get too much overtone ringing, unless I tune the batters very low. EC2 heads have their fans for a reason! Thanks for chiming in with your preference. How have they been working out for your musical needs?

    On the ec2 you hear the material too and on g2 you hear the sound more. For me the g2 wins.

    sounds like the ec2's sound better when there's more energy driven into the drum (or higher volume playing)

      Ghost, I am trying them on my PDP Concept Maple 6 piece Kit with 5 Toms: 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16". I had Evans G2s Coated and just switched. The G2s are "warmer" ( a little less Punchy) and were recommended by the Drum Store for maple drums. The EC2s are a bit more Punchy , but they may be a little "Plasticky". Depends on Your Ears - Subjective. I use Evans E-Rings on all the Toms except the 8 " rack. Seems the E-Rings take out that Overtone Ringing that I do not want. I don't use Mics, or compression. I'm a 70 yo, who plays drums for recreation in retirement , about 1 hour a day to My Music: Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Clapton, Kinks, Beatles, Stones, Mellencamp, some Motown, Cars, Talking Heads, Animals, Hollies, Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Rait and More.

    there is just absolutely no way that in a band setting, people will be able to hear "oh yea, hes def using ec2s not g2s" like the differance can only be heard by a robot, let alone someone in a band with other instruments.

      You raise an excellent point, Liam. In the mix of a full band, the subtle differences between heads can become nuanced. It's all about finding what feels and sounds best for you. Cheers for sparking discussion!

    Ec2s round out the tone and making it sound full. The g2s are nice but ec2s have that low end

    • @drumdog
      @drumdog Месяц назад

      Absolutely, @Jojoakl21. The EC2s do bring out a nice low end, adding to the drum's full tone. It's all about finding the sound that best suits your style.

      Phones can definitely limit the sound quality! If you get a chance to listen on a better system or headphones, we'd love to know if you notice the differences more clearly. Thanks for watching!
