I love watching these types of videos! It inspired me to finally clear out some figures and merch that is just taking up space. I also relate to having a series ruined by having an awful breakdown afterwards ( Mine is Orange because it is quite relatable to situations in my own life). I literally can't watch it, read it or even see edits about it without it trigging me a bit 😪

Compulsive buying isn’t gonna help with why you feel the need to always have new things. It’s a dopamine hit to get new stuff all the time even tho the subject matter doesn’t resonate with u, I see this a lot with this community and want to stress save ur money spend it on things that help u. Moderations of collecting is fine but if ur taste isn’t refined u are most likely buying for fomo, compulsive reaction, or just a horder; many of these YT are but they have income thru views but most don’t even like the show/material the characters come from, which is odd.

Also THANK YOU for talking about the breakdown after Fruits Basket. I have done this too and it ruins those things FOREVER. No one seems to understand but all I can do is associate that thing with trauma after-it’s so hard to maintain a love or interest in something that literally triggers you. As someone who has ocd I understand avoiding something you like cause of something that happened, I usually get back to it after stepping away for a bit but if I remember correctly I do have one or two that I just usually avoid period cause it was during a really hard time in that year I watched it, I still love it cause it gave me joy during the hard time but I totally get it.
I really appreciate your videos, and i really like your editing style! It's cool how you capture your personality and share your thoughts on the intricacies of figure collecting bc it really is a difficult hobby to find a sense of balance in. It's all part of the process, and it's nice you're able to take your audience along for that experience. I know that when I've made some of my riskier purchases, i was definitely going through a lot of inner turmoil, and to go through that multiple times with lots of different figures is a lot for one person imo. This was a really honest video. I could never be this open and honest except to a select few. For overspending, one thing I do to help me manage my purchases is I keep a running list of the types things I want to buy and routinely go through the list. It helps me figure out what are things I actually love and what is a fleeting interest. I find it so hard to let items go once I own them, and much easier to deny or delay a purchase. It also helps that I limit big purchases to franchises I've love for a long time and not series that are new and exciting, but I don't know if I'll care about it in six months or not. It doesn't always work but it helps and it's reinforced by feeling good and content when I follow my own rules and the guilt that comes when I don't.
Shikishi boards I do 2 things. For the really pretty ones I frame them and hang them up. Mainly use those nice thin "fancy" daiso ones. The other is those folding stands with the arms. Makes great display but will take up space.
I agree with you I moved last year and re-unboxed most of figures meanwhile some of my old figure have not be unboxed yet and I don't plan on opening them again. I'm gonna sell them sooner or later.
For shikishi boards I use books made for them like your clearfile one. The abnormal sized shikishi boards can be put up on walls or use plate holders to display them on shelves.

I'm in the middle of moving to a new apartment, and before, I never saw myself selling figures; I was always scared of wanting them later and missing out. But, gotta say, clearing up space for the new figures I have on preorder and even more excited for, really feels good. It's like decluttering your mind, and it's really fun to redo a set-up.
I just wanted to say that I totally understand where you're coming from with having to curate your collection a lot more strictly as over the past two years I've had to do the same because of extreme financial hardship. It's really tough to let go of these things when in the perfect world you could just have a huge room with all the things that make you happy but I hope you can remember that even though we may have to cancel or sell or move on from things we loved for whatever reason, you can still enjoy them as having been meaningful for you for that time and that in the future there's sure to be new things to make your collection just as special!

I also ordered taishakuten and all we currently know is that they are searching for a new factory to manufacture him. I‘m pretty confident that he will just get moved back several months perhaps a year? Instead of getting completely cancelled as a product.

Thanks for sharing how you managed and your considerations before sale. I find myself in similar situation, having 3 figures trickling (from June, August and September) into October which makes my tally for October, November and December at 5, 5 and 4 respectively. Luckily, most of them are fully paid or partially paid. The thing that gets me is the storage.. I wish too I have a brother's room to dump my stuffs haha.

Letting go collections is kinda sad moment for me, recently something happened and I have to sell most of my collections (nendos, figmas and other action figures, scales figure, dollfies, already built model kits, and cancel all my pre-order, etc) on the other hands they have made me a happy collector so far, even if it sad, in the end they help me to survive as well, hopefully i can get them back in the future, I'm glad you thinking it throughly when letting to your collection.

I've been trying to do the same thing with my figures lately. I find it gets easier once you get momentum selling and money starts coming in and space starts freeing up lol. Screw the DHL price increase too. I cancelled all my PO's cause of it. I refuse to pay those fees anymore. Especially with the increase
I can relate the the terible spending habbits, you think you have everything nicely budgeted with the figures and then every few days Buyfriend pops up with a lovely message telling you about this really cool piece of merch from a show you love that you didnt know existed and a couple of hours of saying you wont buy it later you have a payment confirmation email for £40 The more I've gotten into this hobby the more I've learned that Figure POs are actually the easiest part of the spending to control since you normaly get a full year window to change your mind and cancel.
Enjoyed the video as always. Very entertaining and quite funny as your mindset is something I can relate to when it comes to getting rid of stuff lol. Might I suggest adding one more guideline that I usually follow, is if there's a bit of hesitancy, then keep it for a set amount of time (usually a week or so) to make the official decision of letting it go or keeping it until you feel like giving it up down the line. It might help, it might not, just figured I'd give some input. Anyways, looking forward to more videos and hope you have a nice day!
I have the shikishi boards up in my detolf, I just kind of keem them in the plastic, tape it to the detolf walls on the inside, and they look adorable in there with the figures and not cluttered at all either!! I also use manga as risers for figures sometimes, especially if the colors match the figure/s, it's a surprising thing that actually works, looks cute AND saves money!! Hope this helps u out a little bit too !! Also, I hope all is well with you :(

Just realized you got that heart-under-blade figure that you get a acrylic plate of, when you buy the new heart-under-blade with her leg stretched backwards. Kind of odd when not matching figures and plates.

I’m pretty darn picky about the figures I get, so I don’t ever really need to sell any. Out of all the figures released in one year, I might get about 7 or 8 figures for that year, not counting Q posket, but I might only get 7 of those per year.
Good thing I don't care a lick for Evangelion, because all of those Radio Eva figures are stunning! I'm in trouble because there's a VALID 1/6th scale, amazing Hitman Reborn figure that just recently launched for preorder and I have no money to even make the down payment on it... 😭 I want it soooo bad but it's almost $800!

Oh you like Edens Zero? I see you have the Rebecca & Shiki from Kotobukiya up there, I have Rebecca, I absolutely love that manga. And season 2 of the anime will be out next year, and it will be so much better because the story only starts to get really good after vol 10.
I 100% understand where you're coming from. If it sparks joy for someone else, I'd rather it go to them to enjoy. I've definitely been trying to think about my preorders and how I want them to look in my collection. I'm trying not to preorder stuff because of hype. For example, I've decided not to collect the Radio Eva line. I've already got the Alter set (Rei and Asuka) and I'm also finishing the Revolve set. And then I also have the big sitting Ichiban line of Askua and Rei. So I'm satisfied with that. I've also tried going back and rewatching anime of figures I've preordered. One of them is Toradora. And I don't...actually like it? I don't know if I had some nostalgia glasses on or something but I didn't remember Taiga being such a jerk? Haha. So I want those figures to go to someone who'd enjoy it more than I would. Great video as always!

I am slowly learning the art of thinning out my collection myself, and being stricter on what I preorder. I can relate to the way media can become tainted- there are some shows I watched or things I read during rough mental health times that I’d love to revisit but just know I should avoid. I need to pick up Noragami 24- rough times in that series rn for sure! Why are we here Adachitoka, just to suffer?! 😂 I am a couple of volumes into Alive by Tadashi Kawashima but illustrated by Adachotoka before they started Noragami and it’s good so far! The art style definitely feels familiar and cozy (well, cozy when there isn’t violent or upsetting stuff happening). The characters also feel like they could exist alongside those in noragami- maybe showing some of the writing influence Adachitoka would carry through in their future work?
Clear outs always feel good imo! Also with that figure you POd on superbuy surely you can get your money back??? I’m pretty sure they fully cancelled all of the figures from that entire company. Apparently they released a small batch of the figure you got and it was a mess. They were going to get a new factory but I think the company decided to pivot away since they had some financial controversy. Hopefully you can get your money back because that is so much and especially since the figure isn’t coming out?
I just have a question. Now the dollar worth much more than Yen, do you think I should buy a lot of figures from Japanese company before dollar value goes back down? I've sold a few figures to Akiba Soul, but the effort to pack and the cost to ship for a few hundred bucks just wasn't compelling enough for me in the long term. I've donated just about everything I've gotten rid of to Goodwill. One of the workers at Goodwill who came outside to collect my stuff actually said her daughter loved anime, and I live in a pretty rural part of Florida/Alabama. So, this stuff you donate certainly has a good chance to end up in good hands. BTW, I came from Making Success Inevitable's podcast with you.
If shipping and customs weren’t an issue, I would gladly take the Kenma and Kuro nendoroids XD But yeah figures are getting so expensive, definitely a smart choice to get rid of some.
i collect the same way, im not after the biggest collection ever and i keep what i want and sell what i can live without. because there are absolutely things in my manga and figure collection that im like, damn if i ever had to get rid of this i'd cry and be sad and then there's other stuff im honestly not attached to/or wouldn't buy again and i want my collection to be more on the i'd cry if i didn't have it anymore side lol but also shopping is fun and it might've made me happy at one point when i got it but that doesn't mean my feelings about the thing i bought won't change, and it's totally fine if it does.
Since figure collecting is so expensive like you have said, I was wondering how long you can keep this up and eventually you will run out of room too because you keep on buying. I am expecting you will need a cleanout at some point and here we are haha
posting listings is honestly the hardest thing for me to do (which thinking about it now it's bad cause I do this as a business LMAO) considering that your listing on MFC, trying listing items at least once a week so their not sitting until your motivated to do a big listing post. and as you said in your video, if you're still having trouble listing, it's okay to just donate them or give them to friends/family cause then you don't have to worry about them anymore. sorry this is long, but I hope it helped.

Then I got another later on, fig was around 45, shipping 30+ and then another 28 for the ~other charges~ it feels like i was robbed wowowoo
I also need to do clean out and it's SO difficult to get rid of anything, omg!! And I also pre-order the Onmyoji Taishakuten but never paid anything. I was so sad when I got the e-mail telling me about the cancelation. But omg! why isn't there going to be refund!?? it's so much money 😱😱 and I understood that he was still going to be released in China, but now I don't know if I trust my memory 😂😅
@@montseceron6171 I recommend using MFC as a figure collector. :D There are lots of people with the same questions as you. If you cancel the figure before you get the bill and shipping quote there should'nt be a problem. But I recommend cancelling as little as possible
Bad part about most things anime is that the market is over saturated and most figures are worth lil to nothing compared to msrp. Reselling for profit don’t really exist with this stuff which is a shame, even if it resulted in scalpers, watching this is like thrown away money. Compulsive spending is something we all deal with in some way or another
"Would I buy this again?" is such a great question when deciding what to get/keep!!

Thanks for sharing how you managed and your considerations before sale. I find myself in similar situation, having 3 figures trickling (from June, August and September) into October which makes my tally for October, November and December at 5, 5 and 4 respectively. Luckily, most of them are fully paid or partially paid. The thing that gets me is the storage.. I wish too I have a brother's room to dump my stuffs haha.

Letting go collections is kinda sad moment for me, recently something happened and I have to sell most of my collections (nendos, figmas and other action figures, scales figure, dollfies, already built model kits, and cancel all my pre-order, etc) on the other hands they have made me a happy collector so far, even if it sad, in the end they help me to survive as well, hopefully i can get them back in the future, I'm glad you thinking it throughly when letting to your collection.

I've been trying to do the same thing with my figures lately. I find it gets easier once you get momentum selling and money starts coming in and space starts freeing up lol. Screw the DHL price increase too. I cancelled all my PO's cause of it. I refuse to pay those fees anymore. Especially with the increase
I can relate the the terible spending habbits, you think you have everything nicely budgeted with the figures and then every few days Buyfriend pops up with a lovely message telling you about this really cool piece of merch from a show you love that you didnt know existed and a couple of hours of saying you wont buy it later you have a payment confirmation email for £40
The more I've gotten into this hobby the more I've learned that Figure POs are actually the easiest part of the spending to control since you normaly get a full year window to change your mind and cancel.
Enjoyed the video as always. Very entertaining and quite funny as your mindset is something I can relate to when it comes to getting rid of stuff lol. Might I suggest adding one more guideline that I usually follow, is if there's a bit of hesitancy, then keep it for a set amount of time (usually a week or so) to make the official decision of letting it go or keeping it until you feel like giving it up down the line. It might help, it might not, just figured I'd give some input. Anyways, looking forward to more videos and hope you have a nice day!
I have the shikishi boards up in my detolf, I just kind of keem them in the plastic, tape it to the detolf walls on the inside, and they look adorable in there with the figures and not cluttered at all either!! I also use manga as risers for figures sometimes, especially if the colors match the figure/s, it's a surprising thing that actually works, looks cute AND saves money!! I dropped Genshin years ago, but I still had to get Ningguang and preorder Mona. I used both of them on my main team.
You could do themed mystery bags for the smaller things, or giveaways for the lil things that include a few smaller things if the same Fandom.
I give you a lot of credit for this, I tend to hold on to something I have way more than something I could get, even though I would like the new item more.

I’m pretty darn picky about the figures I get, so I don’t ever really need to sell any. Out of all the figures released in one year, I might get about 7 or 8 figures for that year, not counting Q posket, but I might only get 7 of those per year.

I 100% understand where you're coming from. If it sparks joy for someone else, I'd rather it go to them to enjoy. I've definitely been trying to think about my preorders and how I want them to look in my collection. I'm trying not to preorder stuff because of hype. For example, I've decided not to collect the Radio Eva line. I've already got the Alter set (Rei and Asuka) and I'm also finishing the Revolve set. And then I also have the big sitting Ichiban line of Askua and Rei. So I'm satisfied with that. I've also tried going back and rewatching anime of figures I've preordered. One of them is Toradora. And I don't...actually like it? I don't know if I had some nostalgia glasses on or something but I didn't remember Taiga being such a jerk? Haha. So I want those figures to go to someone who'd enjoy it more than I would. Great video as always!

I am slowly learning the art of thinning out my collection myself, and being stricter on what I preorder. I can relate to the way media can become tainted- there are some shows I watched or things I read during rough mental health times that I’d love to revisit but just know I should avoid. I need to pick up Noragami 24- rough times in that series rn for sure! Why are we here Adachitoka, just to suffer?! 😂 I am a couple of volumes into Alive by Tadashi Kawashima but illustrated by Adachotoka before they started Noragami and it’s good so far! The art style definitely feels familiar and cozy (well, cozy when there isn’t violent or upsetting stuff happening). The characters also feel like they could exist alongside those in noragami- maybe showing some of the writing influence Adachitoka would carry through in their future work?
Clear outs always feel good imo! Also with that figure you POd on superbuy surely you can get your money back??? I’m pretty sure they fully cancelled all of the figures from that entire company. Apparently they released a small batch of the figure you got and it was a mess. They were going to get a new factory but I think the company decided to pivot away since they had some financial controversy. Hopefully you can get your money back because that is so much and especially since the figure isn’t coming out?

I've sold a few figures to Akiba Soul, but the effort to pack and the cost to ship for a few hundred bucks just wasn't compelling enough for me in the long term. I've donated just about everything I've gotten rid of to Goodwill.
One of the workers at Goodwill who came outside to collect my stuff actually said her daughter loved anime, and I live in a pretty rural part of Florida/Alabama. So, this stuff you donate certainly has a good chance to end up in good hands.

i collect the same way, im not after the biggest collection ever and i keep what i want and sell what i can live without. because there are absolutely things in my manga and figure collection that im like, damn if i ever had to get rid of this i'd cry and be sad and then there's other stuff im honestly not attached to/or wouldn't buy again and i want my collection to be more on the i'd cry if i didn't have it anymore side lol but also shopping is fun and it might've made me happy at one point when i got it but that doesn't mean my feelings about the thing i bought won't change, and it's totally fine if it does.
Since figure collecting is so expensive like you have said, I was wondering how long you can keep this up and eventually you will run out of room too because you keep on buying. I am expecting you will need a cleanout at some point and here we are haha

@@montseceron6171 I recommend using MFC as a figure collector. :D There are lots of people with the same questions as you. If you cancel the figure before you get the bill and shipping quote there should'nt be a problem. But I recommend cancelling as little as possible

Bad part about most things anime is that the market is over saturated and most figures are worth lil to nothing compared to msrp. Reselling for profit don’t really exist with this stuff which is a shame, even if it resulted in scalpers, watching this is like thrown away money. Compulsive spending is something we all deal with in some way or another
