So sad was it that a genius like David Bowie was always being critiqued within the perimeters of his early career when, in fact, he was writing beautiful compositions all through the 90's & 2000's plus. This one off of Reality comes out of left field; classic Bowie gem, written & sung so masterfully. It was hardly over after Let's Dance!?! Stop & listen.
I got the feeling that he couldn't win. In the eyes of the critics, he was either "desperately trying to be new and cutting-edge and left field" or "trying to repeat past glories". As fanboyish as it sounds, it is the real fans who can appreciate the full arc of his work.
There was so much good music in the 1990s that it was inevitable that an artist who started out in the 1960s wouldn't receive the same attention. The Verve had released Urban Hymns, Radiohead OK Computer. It was fair to give these new beautiful minds a lot of the spotlight.
@@speedscampi5217 aww, Real sorry to hear that. I recommend adding "there's plenty of girls in the sea" by MGMT, to your playlist. Just to see another kinda of perspective 👍
Great comment. Stupidly I thought I was the only person to notice that. Paul Simon and Brian Wilson are still the kings of 'bridges' though, if you know what I mean.
This is the song that got me in to him. Played it to my so called Bowie fan and he didn’t have a clue who it was. He had a lot of hit only fans. Shame. Great song
Rei _42 He actually says "for ME" He's expressing regret that he's been selfish his whole life and now he's running out of time to make up for it, hence "all the days I owe you. "

the cover art of the album was particularly telling in a way - the Pikachu-cute manga cover figure, and the inside image of haggard David alone in a sound booth rocking out defiantly with his guitar -

this has been one of my favorites since the very first moment i heard it 15? years ago. It's personal significance has grown immensely.

With songs like Word on a wing, Bewlay brothers, A better future, Because you're young this is one of Bowie's best underrated songs
It could well be.
Word on a wing is the best
@@carloscerdan2782 Absolutely! Word on a wing is generally my favourite Bowie's song
Word on a Wing cannot be bettered, a masterpiece
Awesome album, with some great songs. (This one, of course, being one of the greatest.)
You are completely right, one of the most under rated and unappreciated songs you'll ever hear. This song is in my top five since a long time.
Days. I'll remember all my life.
such a beautiful song
Probably one the most under rated and unappreciated songs you'll ever hear. Lyrics are fantastic.
Mike Yuill .yes and cant find karaoke for it too
Yeah it's awesome and definitely one of his better later ones
try fall dogs bomb the moon
Lyrics are fantastic and is there also a soprano saxophone somewhere adding enchantment to the poetry
I hurt my best friend so hard...this one says all that I can’t put in words...Love this one...
Super bridge .....just like the young Bowie
Great comment. Stupidly I thought I was the only person to notice that. Paul Simon and Brian Wilson are still the kings of 'bridges' though, if you know what I mean.
This whole album was excellent. it is an under-rated gem!
Thank you David.

It's a truly wonderful song.

Javier Kaleb López Ocampo sorry 😥 but it does evoke emotion
The most underrated track from "Reality", and yet, probably the BEST one.
