Any fear of pesticides or chemicals used at the nurseries that provide plants to big box stores selling potted plants? I've heard from other composters that they avoid these types of plants for that reason, especially the root balls.
Our only concern with potted plants and nursery stock is plant disease. We don't handle very much of this material for just that reason. But, we do get the occasional potted plant from a grocery store or residential customer. Persistent herbicides are generally broadleaf herbicides, so you won't find those in flowers and other leafy plants, mostly in grass clippings, animal manures and animal feed (all items that we don't accept in order to minimize our risk)
