- Jung Kook (정국) rose to fame as the youngest member of the supergroup that changed the music industry landscape, BTS. On his debut solo album, 'GOLDEN', he reintroduces himself as a confident and independent artist.
Zane Lowe travels to Seoul, South Korea to meet Jung Kook at HYBE, not far from his original hometown, Busan. The two start from the very beginning, discussing when Jung Kook joined BTS fresh from training and his early days as a musician. The two then delve into the success of BTS, the decision to pursue solo music, and the process of creating this album.
The interview concludes with Jung Kook expressing his excitement for BTS's reunion in 2025 and reinforcing the special nature of his bond with his fellow bandmates and his beloved fans, the BTS Army.

I’m proud to be an ARMY honestly, Jungkook and the other members are the ONLY artists that I’ve seen that are extremely humble, I remember getting into them back in 2017 and I’m glad I found them, I love them so much 💜

Interviews like these are rare. Each question was well chosen, interesting, and gave Jungkook room to answer in his own way and put thought into it as well. To me it felt like both were really comfortable and treated with respect throughout the conversation, which was really refreshing to see. Good job! Now I wish there was an interview like this from all the members.

@zuzannabrzeszczak1578 Not everyone has to like him, of course. I get why you're saying that even though I see it differently. Jungkook has been in the music industry for years now, so I'm sure he knows how to deal with interviews despite the nerves. This interview was more serious than what we're used to and I personally liked that. Joking in that situation might have made things a little awkward, especially when considering the language barrier. Though a smile could never hurt, you're right about that. Even without that, the interviewer never seemed unfriendly to me, maybe only a bit distant. Still, I appreciate a lot that he has obviously done his research about Jungkook as well as BTS as a group and has prepared a wide range of questions. I want the time to be over when all they've been asked about was their favorite type of pizza.

Actually, hasn't he interviewed BTS as a group at least once, @@elli_er. I thought I remembered him doing an interview with the whole group.
I know I've seen him in a video on RUclips. But maybe he ju@t made a video about his views & impressions of BTS. He's been a big fan of theirs for a while now.
It's actually making me emotional just seeing... an interview with any of them where they're simply taken seriously, where there is actually research, where the time has been taken to actually look at the phenomenon of BTS and ARMY and see it with some kind of depth. It doesn't need to be overly reverent, just a basic level of respect and acknowledgement. Out of 100s of interviews they've done over the years there have only been a tiny amount that actually seemed to know BTS' music and their history, and to treat them as intelligent human beings, as professionals who know their own minds and are the architects of their own careers.
It's also so rare to acknowledge ARMY as intelligent human beings, and to understand that BTS and ARMY are involved in a mature symbiotic conversation. Of course BTS themselves have always acknowledged that, but it's been completely missing from the media discourse. The gap between the 'media image' of BTS/ARMY vs the reality of BTS/ARMY has been painful and endlessly ironic to endure over the last decade. It's bittersweet that we need to celebrate just having a decent interview, but it really is rare and I appreciate it!

We are totally on the same wavelength and I loved how you said this. I appreciate and feel so appreciated to see the boys get the respect and professionalism that they deserve after being in the industry for so long and contributing so much. And i can't wait for when this media image of Bts and Army gets broken down and people can see the unique and amazing connection of Bts and Army because it's so unique and definitely one of the first, if not the first bond that seems to have depth and mean something even if it just seems like artist and fan its so much more.

This was one of the most excellent interviews I’ve ever seen. The questions were thought provoking and Jungkook’s answers were articulate and informative. He continues to be polite and humble. I am so proud of his accomplishments. I miss seeing BTS as a group, and am so impressed with how outstanding they are as individuals. I’m a 73 year old grandmother, a retired teacher, and an avid ARMY of four years who will continue to follow and love them until I leave this Earth. 💜💜💜

I agree with you. I'm an 86-year-old retired lady and I love BTS. They're such amazing and talented men (I was going to say boys, but my family reminded me that they are grown up). They are so humble and down-to-earth. Jungkook shows so much respect, warmth and love to ARMY. Almost 4 years I became an ARMY, and the happiness they have given me is immeasurable. 💜💜
I just turned 60 and honestly I could not have made it to this milestone without that connection JK was speaking on. They've given me so much but mainly they gave me back my smile and laughter. ARMY means so much to me, too.

I've been following BTS since the pandemic and they were such a ray of sunshine in a dark time and continue to shine their light as solo artists. As a global sensation, BTS embraces all ages and their humbleness and honor to the fans and the music is exactly what the world needs. Zane is one of my favorite interviewers. His thoughtfulness and respect and connection to the artist is unparalleled IMHO. And Jung Kook has come into his own starting with Seven and now with the release of Golden. It's an incredible time in his history and what a handsome, talented, thoughtful, beautiful , and humble soul! I LOVE the album and the focus on the many aspects of love he shares with ARMY. When he was asked about if there is an on-stage persona and he said: "I don't make the separation. There is just one me." This is true wisdom. No masks, no personas, no roles.

This mindset can be really damaging though. When artists get alot of hate this seperation usually is something that makes them survive the situation because they make themselves think that they don't hate them, they hate their persona.

I have never EVER seen and heard JK express himself to this extent. The questions of the interviewer were extremely masterful - he was able to skilfully and respectfully guide JK into sharing crucial insight and posed questions that we Army have wanted to ask or didn't know we needed to ask. Jk se dévoilait totalement. Je serais curieuse que ce type interview d'autres membres comme RM ou Suga rien que pour voir leur propre perspective de tout ça, leur projet d'avenir etc... comme ce sont à mon sens des membres qui ne voient pas les choses sous le même angle que Jk, et éventuellement le reste du groupe bien sûr. bref. I am beyond proud of Jungkook and beyond grateful to him for all the lovely feelings he makes me feel for all the joy that he brings into my life and the entire world. I have been here for a long time I've watched him grow over the years as a member of BTS and as Jeon Jungkook.I have never been impressed by anyone in my life as much as I am with him he is really one of a kind, a rare gem. I love everything about him. Not only is he a super talented amazing artist but also an incredible human being. It is not just his talent that I admire but his genuine and humble personality how he manages to stay down to earth after all the huge achievements he has accomplished throughout his life. And his kindness and respect towards everyone around him especially his fans ARMYS and his fellow BTS members, the staff and literally everyone. He never discredits anyone he appreciates every little thing everyone does. He is just an all rounder. He said that his favorite song from the album is Standing next to you, it is mine too cause it shows how good of a performer he is how he can sing perfectly and dance sharply and expresse the song with his whole body putting more than a 100% in his work, his dedication and discipline along with the passion he has for what he does is so impressive and truly inspiring. I'm forever gonna be grateful for every song, every performance, and every moment he has ever shared with us. I love him so much and I will always love him.

The change that has taken place in Junkook is impressive. He has matured a lot mentally and psychologically, although it must be admitted that he has always been sensible. The principles that now guide him in perceiving, feeling, valuing and reacting to problems, mistakes and other life situations determine his well-formed identity. Solving all problems on the fly, which is what he is currently guided by, allows him to achieve his goal, preserve friendships, eliminate obstacles and cut off his growing baggage of bad experiences. He is loyal to BTS and ARMY members, as he has proven time and again. JK you deserve exceptional recognition and may your personal happiness and professional success never leave you.
JUNGKOOK has the purest heart he's so humble He's the biggest Pop Star of current Music industry but still he's so down to earth his love for Army is remarkable.

This is one of the best, most thoughtful interviews of BTS by Western journalist. I hope you may become a go to Interviewer for when BTS all return as a group for 2025 comebacks. Thank you for this interview! It is refreshing to see Jungkook this way even if we know how nervous he gets when being interviewed that he’d rather perform. But this is a confirmation that even if he’s on top of his league right now he remains to be the humble, honest person that he was from the beginning. He never forgets his roots and always grateful to army and to BTS. Never accepting credit for himself but will always say without BTS and Army he will not be where he is right now. How can you not love him and would like to protect him. He deserves the love that he is getting right now and more. Thank you Apple Music!

It's the first time in my 40 something years that an artist got all my attention and love. I love BTS as a team and I love each one of the members. I've supported the team music/projects and their individual music and projects. Each and everyone of them. Also as a JK-bias for 8 years, I was basically seeing him grow up to be a mature, talented, confident, sincere man, but I never had a chance to hear him vocalize out his perspective in such thoughtful way like this. Wow! What an impressive interview! I liked the probing questions, and JK's responses were so enlightening and reassuring to us ARMY. This is the kind of interview I see myself watching over again to really absorb what a humble superstar (two words that don't often go together except when referring to members of BTS 😊) JK is. I mean, I already knew that, but JK was just so effortless in this interview!
Zane is a brilliant journalist. His Harry Styles interviews are really worth a listen. JK, and HS, are similar in some ways. Both are a lot deeper than you think.

Absolutely one of the best so far. I thought the conversation between RM and Pharell was very insightful too, but these are still so rare. I hope there's more like this in the future... for now we always have their own interviews on Suchwita etc. which are more intelligent and in-depth than 98% of interviews by journalists!

The best interview of BTS or a BTS member I've seen.. kudos to Zane for the questions that I might have asked him myself. And it seemed JK felt comfortable with Zane enough to give such thoughtful responses. I'm not given to tears but I cried when JK talked about feeling the absence of his members.. we feel it too 🥲 And big props to the beautiful editing, showcasing the gorgeousness of Seoul and of course JK.
