  • Well, we blinked and summer 2024 is over. I'm hoping to sneak in a trip to the beach this week pre-Labor Day, while everyone is moving their kids into college and back-to-school shopping, because things are always sweetest when they are coming to an end. It's human to experience sorrow, whether through the passing of a close relative, watching your youngest child start their last year of college (or their first), or discovering that your favorite snacks are crushed beyond recognition. But it's in the nature of the Universe to keep moving, growing, and replenishing our hope for the future, if we allow ourselves to release the old, outdated versions of ourselves. Here's the version of the song that Barry Gibb recorded in 2020 with Sheryl Crow: • Barry Gibb and Sheryl ...
And here's a trailer for the 2020 Bee Gees Documentary, in case you haven't seen it (which I hadn't, but must watch as a diehard Bee Gees fan since my preteen years in the late 1970s, having seen them live in New Haven in August, 1979 at age 13): • The Bee Gees: How Can ... Of course, that was just about the time the "War on Disco" kicked in (welcome to your world, GenX): www.pbs.org/vi...
How interesting that the lyrics to this song wonder "how can you stop the sun from shining," when Joshua (from whose book comes today's Old Testament reading, Chapter 24) reportedly asked God to freeze the sun in the sky so he could finish fighting a battle in daylight: en.wikipedia.o...
Who says that we can't derive important lessons for the future from our shared past (whether biblical or cultural)?
