Couple points. 1. The cabinet and furniture paint is latex based. As are most of their paints at Lowes, except Rustoleum. 2. Most of the primers are also latex as well. 3. You can use latex paint on furniture. Just make sure you add a topcoat. The spray one made by Krylon is quite excellent. 4. Most people are not going to want to clean their brushes with chemicals because they use oil based. Use latex and wash with soap and water. Side note: most people aren't going to dispose of the paint properly so probably only buy what you need. 5. Buy the mistint samples and use those for small pieces of furniture. Also pick up some plain white or black and you can make your own custom neutral paint for a fraction of the cost. 6. If you prime, there's no need to sand. It's an unnecessary step if you're not refinishing actual wood. 7. Chalk paint will stick beautifully you any piece. No sanding or priming required. For anyone in the comments reading this, I just to work for Lowes and am a paint expert so it's good information. Hope this helps.
@@mihir9608 If you use oil based paint, chemicals are needed to clean the brushes, most people do not like to use chemicals. She says that if you use latex paint, you don't need chemicals to clean the brushes, just need soap and water.
I appreciate the pointers you've given. I myself am a carpenter, one thing I have learned in my many years in the trade is when painting over glossy finishes like faux wood pieces (think the old wall paneling), the newer fancy paints that don't require primer or limited surface prep are expensive. One option to lower cost is to hit the piece with a rough grit sand paper, wipe with tack cloth, coat with an OIL BASED primer using foam roller, two coats if needed (sand between coats), wipe with tack cloth again, paint with latex paint of your choice, apply several light coats of polycrilic to complete. Although the new chalky finish type paints are convenient they are certainly a profit eater and may be a barrier of entry to some new flippers. I have used the above process to refinish everything from kitchen and bathroom cabinets, countertops, paneling walls, furniture pieces, and more. Use the inexpensive brushes and foam rollers for the primer coats and dispose of properly after each project and get the quality brushes and rollers for the latex and polycrilic applications and wash after each use. The oil based primer forms a hard shell over the glossy finish of the faux wood which allows your latex to adhere to the piece just like it was meant to be used.
@@troyellison3178 what about for some laminate type kitchen cabinets. Mine are hard and shiny type. They are this weird color that isn’t even trying to look like wood and are super smooth.

Not going to flip any furniture but you have given me the courage to paint my solid pine bedroom set. I am going to start with the two night stands that I use as end tables in my living room. Another great video ♡ something I do after opening the paint,I hammer the tip of a nail to make holes so after pouring paint it won't pool in the rim. It'll drip back into the can through the nail holes. It helps paint not splattering when you hit the lid back down when you're don't too. You did an awesome job on these!♡
Hi Lauren, this is a great video you and Neiman put together. You have become quite the team! I love the 4 P's. My daughter picked up her first Facebook Marketplace piece and is excited to start working. Your instructions are awesome. It seems like just yesterday you were the beginner, and now you have quite the following!! Your generosity and inspiration are golden. Thanks for all you are doing.🌷🌷🌷 Hi from CT
I'm binging your videos! I'm so inspired to pick this side hustle up to help find some home improvements in our single income household. Our three kids have been hard on our house, and it's time for some improvements. When I look around I get so overwhelmed at all the projects we need to pay for. But I think if I can start flipping furniture, and teaching my kids about being business owners, as I homeschool them, it will be a huge win win for my family! Thank you so much for your free content. Hopefully I can work my way up to joining a masterclass, or your patreon 🎉🎉. Thanks again for inspiring me!
After teaching for 46 years, I finally retired! You have inspired me to get my creative juices flowing and I have sold several pieces that I have picked up in people's trash. I just spent $100 on supplies and have made over $500 profit. Thanks for your videos and wonderful instructions. PS Your husband is a great photographer!
Thank you so much for this video, by far this is the most thorough and helpful video I’ve seen. I’m new at this and you’ve helped so much already. Awesome job!
Really glad to find this! I just started watching you and I work at Lowe's so I knew I was going to go there for my supplies and you just answered every question I had. 😁
I was asked if I wanted old furniture from someone’s house and I said yes so now I’m going to try to flip it and see how it goes! Definitely using this video as my guide😁
I love your videos so much. I've been painting furniture around the house for many years. Just to revamp or repurpose a piece, not to resell or flip. Alot of the things you are teaching I've just been doing, but your tips and teaching 5 still very helpful. I am constantly going between your videos and Google because we don't have the same products here in South Africa. So I have to see what is similar and what can be used instead of products that are only found in the United States. I am really inspired.💓💓💓 Hopefully, I'll have the nerve to start flipping and selling furniture soon. 🌸🌸
The Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Oil Enriched Enamel is water clean up. I am using it for kitchen cabinets that I am building. It is self leveling and I love the finish from a spray gun. I recommend it.
Thank you so much for talking about primers and how important they are. So many people just jump in with the paint and I feel so bad for the people who are following along and run into major problems down the road.

I love doing it seeing that diamond 💎 when no one else does!!!!! I pray you continue to get the money for a new home!!!! Take good care of the little ones they are our future!!!!!! Blessings!!!! 💜🙌
You got this! Always remember patience! The right person will come along in time! Location does matter a bit so hopefully your move will help you out!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher thank you and I pray you get a house with a studio for your business your to talented to stop!!!!! Have a blessed week!!!
Dollar Tree has a pack of 3 paint brushes for $1 about the same size as the one you used for your primer. I love getting those because then I'm only spending $0.33 per brush since I throw them away after oil based products. And they don't shed the way chip brushes do 😊
I need to get over there and check those out! Thanks for the info! (:
I like a good brush and for my house I’ll use a $12 brush, but I painted a whole house interior with one of those dollar store brushes. (That and a roller, of course. Lol)
I like the freedom of spraying. Sometimes brushing makes me have to be more careful than I want to, Spraying is just relaxing to me!
I Loveeee your Chanel, never flip anything not even paint a table for myself but I just can’t stop watching your videos!!! I just looooove your nice and sweet actitud to explain things, and also love your designs … 🥰
I'm in love with you and your work! You are such a beautiful soul in and out! Thank you for being a GREAT teacher and a GREAT person and thank you for so much inspiration!! I smash the like button before I even watch the video haha. Keep up the great work!!
Wow, thank you! I appreciate your kind words! Thanks for watching!
I love this video. I am doing a flip for my house and who knows! You are very easy to follow and listen to.
Thank you for this beginners video, just the type of video I've been searching for. I appreciate so much how you walked through the whole process and I learned new terminology/skills. I felt intimidated by other videos i've watched, but yours inspired me to just have the courage and give it a try.
What an excellent video. I’ve been watching on TikTok. Please keep posting. I’m going to try your method.
I loved this!! Can’t wait to get first piece of furniture to flip. I want those night stands to sell! I am invested in them!! It feels like I helped!! Thank you! You’re a great teacher!
This video is perfect I’m just starting out and needed this so bad, thank you - love your channel!!!
You're so welcome! Glad it helped! (:
Loved your reminder why sanding/priming is so important - doing a good job can bring repeat customers or referrals!
So well done! A huge help for those of us starting out with great tips and advise. I loved your example of 'small car', personal confessions, and your 5 P's! We all will make mistakes and it helps to hear that even you did too! Let's have more of these kinds of vids. Please!!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
A big thumbs up FFT for getting all the bases covered for us newbies.
Glad we could help !(:
One thing I'd like to learn more about is choosing color, I just found your channel and am feeling inspired but I feel fairly inept when it comes to style/design choices for refinishing.
I'm doing a 2 piece hutch for my kitchen, thank you so much for explaining in detail. My favorite channel. ❤️
I might give flipping a try 🤞
Thank you lauren. I just started my furniture flipping journey. This is super helpful. I'm hoping to become as good as you are.
Lauren, you are a natural teacher. Thanks for all the tips and carefully reviewing the steps from beginning to end. You are a mentor to many of us just starting. Many thanks 👏 !!!!
Thanks for breaking it down like you did! I've flipped pieces for myself and have all the supplies I need but trying to calculate hourly and break it down to cost was something I didn't really think too much about. I have a small accumulation of items to start on and now I can put your advice to use!
Excellent video ❤ Being a Teacher has given you the expertise of how to patiently and thoroughly explain all aspects of the FF . Super great job!!❤😊
I love your video's. They are so informative. Thank you for teaching us the ropes. You are a great teacher.
Not going to flip any furniture but you have given me the courage to paint my solid pine bedroom set. I am going to start with the two night stands that I use as end tables in my living room. They are almost identical to the ones you flipped in this video but they have three drawers. Now I just need to decide on a colour!
Wow it’s the second time I catch the video pop up I’m so excited every time i see a notification from you love your channel thank you for sharing with is what you know love your channel ❤️
Yay! Thank you! Glad you enjoy and thanks for supporting!
Thank you I learned a lot! I always enjoy watching your lessons!
Thank you for taking us to the store with you to teach us from the beginning I love it !!!
I was going to comment on how cool your videos are compared to the beginning. Then I saw you hired an expert. Totally worth the cost and I’m sure it frees you up to do your expertise. You are a fantastic flipper. I love every video and I always watch to the end.
Another great video ♡ something I do after opening the paint,I hammer the tip of a nail to make holes so after pouring paint it won't pool in the rim. It'll drip back into the can through the nail holes. It helps paint not splattering when you hit the lid back down when you're don't too. You did an awesome job on these!♡
I repainted my kitchen cabinets using the Valspar cabinet paint. It worked like a dream!
Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoy and good luck with your piece! (:
Thanks for being here! So glad it's helped (: Keep up the great work!
Oh wow!....this video was the one that get me into subscribing to your channel!....ty for taking the time to show us how it is done!...👍👍👍👍
Great video. You explain the process easily, without drawing out the process.
I'm so glad I found you I want to start flipping furniture....newly retired and I want to start a home based business
Thank you so much for this video, by far this is the most thorough and helpful video I’ve seen. I’m new at this and you’ve helped so much already. Awesome job!
Excellent and very informative beginner video… great pieces. Glad to have found your channel.
Thank you for this clear, concise demo and valuable information!
Happy that it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
The Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Oil Enriched Enamel is water clean up. I am using it for kitchen cabinets that I am building. It is self leveling and I love the finish from a spray gun. I recommend it.
Just watched your video today. I love the beginner tutorials. It helps so much to get started. Thank you!
Thank you so much for talking about primers and how important they are. So many people just jump in with the paint and I feel so bad for the people who are following along and run into major problems down the road.
Your local recycling center also might have some free paint 🎨 good spot to check if your just starting out. I just started flipping furniture and am loving it so far. Can't wait to learn more.
This was a Priceless (6th P 😉) video. I have been following your channel steadily for a couple of months but still picked up new tips. Oh, and I like your rolling chair; that seems like a worthwhile investment that saves wear on your knees and back. Great job (again)!
Love the rolley chair! Glad you enjoyed the video! (:
This was excellent. Your delivery of the process was professionally presented and I especially valued the shopping segment. My plan is to revitalize some furniture I inherited years ago. It’s for my use only. Thank you so much!!
This has been so helpful! I have always wanted to do this and I am so excited to learn for you.
I'm really enjoying you're videos and I discovered you this weekend! I'm also a teacher and will moving into school admin and now im thinking of taking this up for summer!
Hey! I’m happy to hear that 😊 we are glad you are getting something from being here!
Great information! Thank you for walking and talking us through the basics! ❤❤
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Great starting video. Looking for my first piece now.
I really love how you explain step by step clearly and your experience is priceless!!!
Thank you!
Great transformation!
Well done!
Hello Lauren. So impressed with your work. You are definately very talented. You definately motivate us to refinish furniture. You are awsome.
Thank you soooo much for this 4 P's flipping tutorial. I'm going to start my projects this wknd and your advice is amazing!
I'll take the guide and any other starter help I can use.... Thank you!
Amazingly, informative video. Thanks so much.
This video is pure gold and so inspiring?? Thank you 🙏
Thank you sooo very much !! I've been thinking about doing this for a long time but the more videos I watch the more confused I get. This was such an excellent video and definately inspired me to hit Lowe's for supplies and get started !!!
My Mrs had Cruze hatchback, the room in the back unbelievable, for small car, cheers Graham.
Such an old soul. I love getting tips from you! Thank you for teaching!!
LOL you said "to get that down payment on that house"...EXACTLY what I am doing!!! Thank you !!
This is exactly the video I was looking for! Thank you!
You always do such a great job, I’ve been into flipping furniture for years, I love it!
Thank you so much for this video. Wish I saw it 1st a few days ago to save money lol but those materials I bought definitely won't go to waste...I just bought a quart of satin primer paint that costs about $30 for $2 and a gal for $9! 🎉❤ Going to play your video on repeat until I master the 4ps. Thanks again!
Luv this video! I started furniture flipping a long time ago. Stopped for along time ago due to my sales position but just recently my wife and I started talking about doing again for xtra income so we picked up some pieces and all are in process of being painted for resale.
Absolutely love both your work and your videos! Thank you for sharing 💕
Good music choice! I'm really enjoying (and appreciating) these "How To" videos. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the step by step explanations. I get so overwhelmed when I go to lowes to try to choose what materials and paints I need, but you’ve explained everything so thoroughly that I’m inspired to go to Lowes right now to go buy everything to paint my bedroom set. :)
Nice flip! I like all of your projects. You are setting a good example for kids: Creativity and hard work!
Thank you so much! That is exactly what I am going for (:
So informative Ty so much
I struggle to remember right grit for prep
These are great! I'm building out a 1988 chevy to travel in and I am looking to put used furniture in it. I love these tips!
