I feel vindicated! Started using Barkeeper’s on my stainless sink in an apartment I rented 25 years ago. Made it look brand new! Still use it! Also works great on porcelain.
I'm a beginner here. I'm so glad you showed different ways to clean the hardware and the test to see if it's metal or precious metal. I mostly spray my handles, but I would like to buff some up. Great tutorial!😊
Not one mention of these being coated with lacquer! Soak your brass in lacquer to remove the lacquer and then use Brasso! If you want to protect it after you polish it you can simply spray it with clear lacquer.
Bar keepers friend is very toxic substance for the body causes crystals in tissue, be carful not to breath it in and get onto the skin, many people are not aware of this!
I boil mine in vinegar and make a paste of baking soda and vinegar to scrub. Dawn with vinegar is a great multi purpose cleaner. For some reason I heat up my vinegar, then add some Dawn before putting it in a spray bottle. Not sure why though.🤷🏼♀️
Vintage Makeovers with Melanie I probably have! But I love that you show all the steps, even if it doesn’t work or has to be moved to the driveway. Makes us feel more normal. 👏❤️
The magnet doesn't determine if it is plated or not. The magnet only tells you if it is IRON or STEEL. Plated pieces can be plated over copper, tin or any number of metal materials. So, its magnetic pull is irrelevant in determining plating.
I was just doing this ! I have solid brass and i cleaned them about a month ago and now there showing a dark tint again but not to bad. But is there a way that i dont have to keep cleaning them with BarKeepers ? Thats what i used.
I don’t know... but I think it’s like jewelry... it likes to be stored in a soft little cloth in a dry box... that’s not realistic.. so yea I suppose we have to clean it .. damn
I tried the tomato sauce method about six months ago. The smell was so unbelievably pongy, it put me off tomato sauce for life.👎 Looks like bar keepers is the go. Cheers Mel. 👍

You did make me laugh out load!
Just wondering...since the active ingredient in barkeepers friend is oxcalic acid, could I mix up some oxcalic acid and soak hardware then scrub?

I used tarnx once and gave it away! Couldn’t stand the smell that lingered, yuck! Bar keepers and vinegar and and baking soda are fantastic to use!
I agree!
Citric acid will make a patina on bare metal.
Should use ketchup and vinegar
