      This so much. I've litrially spent thousands on skins for Valorant at this point. The big issue with the loot box isn't even the cost so much as the fact that there's total uncertainity. At this rate if I want any of the highend items, I basicly have to budget for maximum spins since I can't be sure that I won't have terrible look and only get the item I want when it's the last item I can get. :(

    I am glad to hear that you have voiced this to the studio, hopefully other content creators has as well. The big point is that Starry needs to re-think how they handle these in the western regions; we do not like FoMo and gambling crates at all. Just put items up for direct sale and those that want to support the game can do so and I strongly suspect they would make more money by doing so.

      Other creators absolutely have, every time there's a new lootcrate we are right there alongside all of the other comments. We've also been directly asked for feedback on how the monetisation is perceived by our audiences [/western audience]. Any change to a financial strategy takes time, and these loot crate assets were finished months ago, as was seen in the architectural design video I referenced.
      I doubt it will be soon, but hopefully within the first year we see a very drastic change to them.

      @@RealMrKraken Even with all the assets finished, it can't possibly be that hard to simply add those items to the regular shop the regular way. I get that they'll have to do lots of data modelling to figure out what to charge for each thing, but that's not a design and assets challenge, that's something for a room of execs to take a week to figure out so they can put out this fire before it destroys the very valuable assets their developers have created for them.

    Not matter how much I would want the cosmetics, I will never touch the lightforge loot crates ever again. Out of principle and because I can't be irresponsible like that. I spent about 50 on a previous lightforge and hated the gambling aspect of it. I spent 50 buck on the glass skin which is fine because it's not RNG and another 50 on random skins.

    The issue I have is the loot crates are too close to one another, so the community feels swamped with these gamble loot crates because they keep force feeding us them. Once a quarter wouldn’t be as bad, but it’s worse than that. Also, if I wanted to spend on the loot crates for example, I’m gambling for items I don’t want, so I’m spending money on cosmetics I don’t want, as most of the time I just want the territory updates included. I think it would be a lot fairer if they let use pick or unpick 1 or 2 of the items in the crate so we can focus on what WE want out of it not something we don’t want.

    • @mechanical_chaos
      @mechanical_chaos Месяц назад

      This. It's like a whole new crate set every week. Even if I was rolling in disposable cash and gambling away I'd feel overwhelmed. But as is it just comes across like they spend half their effort on making cosmetics for people to not buy, but gamble on. We could all support them fishing for whales if it didn't FEEL like it came at the cost of everything else.

      I was ok with the initial loot crate release, but after they scheduled release after release after release. That's when I started to change my opinion regarding the matter. It's like they're deliberately creating FOMO for the lootcrates. This is why I prefer the monetization model of POE more than any other games in the market. GGG makes a 3 to 4 month long sale for a limited supporter skin, and they also have an annual long supporter skin which is also tier based, meaning you can actually get all of the skin just by continuously upgrading for an entire years length of purchase.

    I've bought the glass and new purple kit, a few of the territory kits and spent some money on the loot crates. I really don't find the rng of the loot crates satisfying, I just want to buy exactly the pieces I want, so I won't be doing any more of them. Just put everything up as crates.
    Oh and if they could be a little less greedy, that would be nice. $75AUD for the big packs is too much.... but I can't help myself, they look so good and I spent so much time reworking my bass.

    The thing with this is that "it might" be not because they wouldn't do it for international servers, but more like "they couldn't" because then they would have to also remove the lightforge lootcrate in CN where a lot of willing lootcrate gamblers/whales makes up a huge bulk of their sales. Knowing the CN playerbase, there would be a huge uproar if international servers get treated more favorably. Just take a look at the Honkai Impact fiasco. TL;DR it might be that their hands are tied and at the mercy of CN.

    My main issue with this one is that it's super seasonal, so it all depends if we think we'll all still be playing Once Human a year from now, or if it will have run out of steam and be done largely for many of us. I don't know, but I prefer to buy cosmetics I can use any time of the year, whereas Halloween themed gear doesn't have that for me. It looks like a good set overall, I personally would like to see 90 spins max as the model, and with fixed prices for all items that can be bought from the shop as an alternative. I know it won't happen mind, but one thing's for sure, the model they put in for the car lightforge was awful and I hope people voted with their wallets and didn't touch it.

Personally I thought the Butterfly's Emissary Crate would disappear on the next scenarios, but they're still there... Alongside new ones that will take anyone a really long time to save up just to buy a couple. Like, seriously... 2700 and 5000 for a crate?

How have we normalized 1-2-3-4-500 dollar skins in a video game...stuff you wont wear in a week or 2. Also..if you are just catering to your whales and leave your free or low paying players behind, it creates friction. You always want a way for the lower class to earn skins ... this game is the worst with that. We have had the same 1 skin in the season shop since beta...need more skins, better skins, stuff to work toward

    they need to eventually add the costumes and such to the regular store then i think folks wouldnt mind the crates so much as it'd be more of a fomo for whales and such and regular players can just wait awhile to pick up the bits they want...i really wouldnt mind that ghost rider style bike skin for instance so if they bunged that in store even if they wanted 50 bucks for it i'd likely buy it eventually.

    I have spent plenty of money on the build and cosmetic skins in this game, because I know exactly what I am getting when i do so. But I won't do loot crates, when the odds are very much against you getting what you want.
    And if they actually put the home/building cosmetics in the loot crates this time - maybe realizing how popular those are, and thus hoping to increase loot crate sales - that will be a *huge* mistake, and possibly/probably drive even more folks away from what I consider to be an otherwise really great game. 😐

    I do my best not to spend a dime on lootcrates after I tested out the first. It feels naive to think if I want a "core item" I won't be spending top dollar. I'd love for lootcrates to be half as often, and the store shares as much of the good outfits as the lootcrates do. No matter how I dice it, I can't see these as not being predatory on people who can't help but to make impulse buys instead of responsibly spending or being able to weigh odds.
    Yet, I am against almost every RNG aspect of crates, even within the mitsuko mark shop. I might just be part of the western spending audience, yet I absolute expect to get my money's worth on a purchase, and I really can't expect that when everything is random. Especially when the, "Sorry, you lost." consolatory prize is about as useful as getting nothing instead. It waters down the value of the purchase, and frustrates people when they repeatedly don't get the item they want. I think direct purchases will make many Once Human players a lot more happy with the game, since we don't get many cosmetics just by playing the game. Everything is money around every corner and it wears on folks.
    I absolutely agree I can see the reason lootcrates exist, yet I feel they are neglecting the collections in game, and in the shop at the same time, which makes lootcrates just that much more bitter of a pill to swallow.

    I feel like if they dropped the pricing to a more reasonable level then more people would buy into it, making up for the money "lost". This isn't the first game I've seen that leans into the whale spending of the community to keep going. It seems to cause only the most dedicated to spend on everything, leaving a lot of the smaller spenders either leaving, or just not getting anything. This hurts the game in the long run because casual players come and go without spending any money at all, where if they could grab some cooler cosmetics, or even part of them from a lightforged selection, they may be more inclined to stay.

This is insane. And lootboxes come out twice a month. So how much should I earn if I collected all the rewards from these chests? Let's be real - even a 'fair' gambling system is about as ethical as a loan shark with good manners. Gaming doesn't need it any more than a fish needs roller skates. Just look at Fortnite - they got the legal equivalent of a timeout, ditched the gambling, and they're still swimming in V-bucks like Scrooge McDuck in his money bin.

    I have an idea.
    Create a new currency for lightforge crates and that u can convert ur starchroms into that currency BUT not vice versa, and sell it in cash shop as well.
    That way, theres less burden for people spending all the time by giving them more options, while also opening the door for f2p players to gamble their own starchroms. Also people are less critical about the financial/business issue because the game lets their players spend ingame currency instead of a full paywall. Its like giving them freedom to make a choice.

    Some players might get what im trying to get for less than i spent for it, some may have to spend far more than i did to get the same items. The only person that wins here is the one getting the money, everyone else loses out the more they had to spend
    If they were just all buyable for one price, thatd be great. Get rid of this lottery style crap

    I am not in a position to just drop hundreds of dollars on loot crates. Never was a fan...I understand the company needing a revenue stream to maintain staff and servers what have you...I just wish they had more just straight purchases in the shop (of things we actually want). I have said it before, if devs make players WANT to spend, they will make more money over making players feel they HAVE to spend. This will be another loot crate I avoid. The car, I would have dropped 60-100USD just for that skin alone....but Hive mates were saying 500-600$ which was not what i was going to do.

    To be fair the monetization model is the same as CSGO and CSGO is the most populour game on steam for years.
    CSGO - Buy keys, open crate win a cosmetic with a very low chance at a very rare cosmetic (knife)
    OH - Buy currency open a crate win cosmetics with a very rare chance at a rare sometic (skin, vehicle)
    Difference is CSGO is actually worse because you can keeo buying and buying spending thousands before you get a knife atleast once human has a limit and a chance to buy /win everything and once you have eveything there is no reason to spend more unlike CSGO where you can keep spending to try and get more knives to try and make profit.
    Point? Everyone giving once human such a hard time for a monetization system that has been around for many years and in a game that people accepted it in and actually used to enjoy watching content creators open cases it was an entire bunch of content for years (CSGO case opening videos). Oh and let's not forget CSGO has these cases back when the game wasent even free... Atleast once human is a fully free to play game and no pay 2 win the help increase there income. (most games make most of there money from. Pay 2 win items)

    • @RealMrKraken
      @RealMrKraken  Месяц назад

      Another comparison could be rust, that although has a speculative / trading market for skins, has fixed price skins release every week that sell in large numbers, that also benefit independent artists who make the skins (often they will make CS skins too). Studio takes the lion's share, steam gets it's cut, creators get %
      I'm sure the people against loot crates in Once Human were/and are also against them in CS, apples and oranges.
      Wheeling out any other game in comparison doesn't matter to Once Human players, they care about THIS game.

    • @LukasHarkamp
      @LukasHarkamp Месяц назад +3

      @@RealMrKraken I think that it's also important to note that older games with loot crates didn't have as much focus on why gambling is bad because it wasn't discussed as much. Once human is a 2024 release which makes it easier to discuss in regards to whether or not it's good. Personally I just feel like it's unnecessary to have these types of gambling aspects in a game for people who want to support the game but also want to know what they get. Partly I also feel that much of the reason that many people dislike the mechanic is because the focus on cosmetics through the store in Once human is mainly focused on loot crates, and maybe it wouldn't be viewed as negatively if the store had more purchasable cosmetics through normal means in a ratio of 80/20 (20 being gacha/loot crates, 80 being straight forward purchases). In the end it makes me want to not buy ANYTHING (not even straight forward purchases) in the game because I don't want to support the format that they release cosmetics in.

    • @SToad
      @SToad Месяц назад +3

      Just because something is bad but common practise doesn’t mean people have to take it. Gambling is a horrible model period. Fortnite has done fine for years as one of the most profitable games in history. You buy what you want with money and that’s it. Surely all these games have the human psychology factor on them like virtual coins to make it seem like you’re spending less or not being able to buy an exact amount of coins or limited time items. But many games have done just fine for years with cero gambling. Not sure why people act like this netease subsidiary company cannot exist without gambling.

    • @LukasHarkamp
      @LukasHarkamp Месяц назад +3

      @@SToad yes! And just because something was okay (or not criticised) in 2012 doesn't mean that it's still okay (or shouldn't be criticised). It is possible to not support gambling because gambling is bad, like not to go to a casino or online gambling, but it makes it more difficult when that's not what once human is about, it is a negative attribute to my experience of the game. Another way to think about it is if one of your friends that you like open up about being politically incorrect or starts to talk about antivaxx or flat earth etc. You end up having to reevaluate the friendship in its entirety.

    I love the game, and cosmetics, but dont have a ton of money to spend on the game.. I understand the need for Loot Crates, as the "Free" Game cant continue without some sort of income. But it does feel unfair that you cant get some of the items if you dont buy loot crates

  • @Cubee4
    @Cubee4 Месяц назад +1

    Mate i love ur videos but if u "understand the need for loot boxes" u are not very smart because its not hard to understand that if they put the items into the shop for us to purchase they would make a lot more money as for more ppl would consider buying the items they want instead of ignoring predatory gatcha fomo boxes and or leaving the game cause of it and also ppl would be way more open to buy stuff they want and then some to help the games development being this greedy is just slowly killing the game like its a constant flow of those boxes i have never seen a game do it this rapidly back to back its just too greedy it kinda shows that they mostly care about getting money from the players than anything else if they would put out small content things this constantly it could be the best game in the world besides that looking forward to ur next videos :)

      I refer you to the previous 4 videos on lightforge and my recommendations for them to be changed. 'Need' is very much encapsulated. Their initial financial strategy was to utilise the loot crates and what their H1/Q1 operating is probably forecasted on. So that sort of executive level change doesn't happen quickly or easily, especially with a game that's owned by NetEase
