I can't believe he's gone... He was the One... That's what we called him. Highest marks in his GT Tests. I never thought I'd make it through a mission that he didn't. He's the one that started calling me "The Pious". A quip at the fact that I bought him a drink when we first met in the bar of the Avenger. He was the best friend I've had since the invasion... He never saw the Mech coming. Nobody did. He dropped right in front of my eyes. I killed that Mech. But it doesn't help the pain... I can't type anymore... My hands just won't... Stop shaking. +Dakota Brown Literally saluted. Was so satisfied when that 10 damage crit nailed that mech. Sometimes I wish this series had gore and deformity; would've made it so much more satisfying to see that damn machine blown into spare parts.

Grelite was killed not because of an Advent Mech but rather his commander's ego. The mission had been achieved. The squad could have pulled back to the house behind them to defend. Everyone in full cover with a couple of them manning the 2nd floor windows.
Journal of John Parks, Rookie and Janitor: Looks like they lost another one. Grelite. Shame, the guy was pretty cool. Didn't intentionally bump me as I was mopping like some of the other hot shots. Looks like they were field testing those fancy mag-guns the brains made. Part of me hopes I one day get out there like my Dad did 20 years ago. The other part looks at the memorial wall and has far too easy a time seeing my own face on there. Mopping's a good job, right? Chris: I know you have an aversion to hacking towers, but if you have the chance to get a non-mission boost of some kind (raise hacking, data cache) and the end of mission is certain (read: one almost dead xray left), you may chance the hack before taking the final blow, even if you fail.
Personal Log, Doctor Enzo "Ackbar" Gennatiempo, "M.D." Avenger Medical Facility, May 10th "God, were do we start today. The soldiers went to disrupt an ADVENT relay that was transmitting sensible data. It all seemed to go well, but our guys were pinned down for a bit, dealing with a turret, and had to rush for the relay. And as always, when things get rushed, they tend to go to hell even faster. Lieutenant Grelite was KIA by a devastating barrage from the rifle of an ADVENT mechanized infantry. The shots pierced the thorax in a diagonal direction, ventral to dorsal, left to right, cranial to caudal. The shots pierced the left lung, the heart, the Aorta and even the liver and the lover right lung. One bullet even pierced the skull, but I believe Albert Grelite was already dead and falling when that one hit him. No degree of medical technology could have saved him. Commander seemed particularly saddened by the lost. Corporal Tudor Dumitrascu was repeatedly hit with stun lances, on the abdomen and chest regions. He will live, but the injuries are serious (a couple of cracked ribs, deep tissues electrocutions, an open wound that required deep stitches) and we'll need to keep him off the field for at least 18 days. Dr. Tygan seemed ... angry, while treating this soldier wounds. I think he saw this kind of "peace keeping" before. The rest of the guys were simmering with rage, Lt. John Aeneas came down a couple of hours later with a minor scratch on his knuckles (disinfected and bandaged, no real treatment necessary. The man knows how to throw a punch), Lt. Mayu Polo had to be brought in from the canteen and receive a gastric lavage (he gulped down FIVE bottles of vodka. FIVE.), nothing major a day of rest and he'll be ok ("probably less" he replied). Sgt. Skinner hasn't spoke since, except with "miss" Shen, who then asked me something for an headache. My bet he asked her how to improve the coordination and reaction times of the GREMLIN. Mood's pretty dark this month around, but we will keep on going. We're working EXACTLY so that nobody else has to suffer this any longer. Hoping that Dr. Tygan let's me assist him on the viper autopsy when is time, I have a certain curiosity to resolve"

(Dr. Desmond Pendulum) - Journal Entry #4: Day 18: Here we go. First mission with the new weapons. My hopes are with the squad, and I wish the Commander all the luck in the world. This could be the turning point we've all been dreaming of. What happened out there? I can't believe we lost another one. Poor Grelite. I didn't know the man that well, didn't really have a chance to even be in the same room for more than ten seconds. I prey for the safety and sanity of all those close to him. And may he finally rest in peace. I vow in the name of humanity that his death will not go unanswered, will not go like the sun does every single day, will not go... like the rest of my family. Day 26: Dr. Tygan seems to have quite the sinister mind, much like myself. When we were near completion of our autopsy, I began to think of ways this research could be of most use to the troops. And just as the thought entered my mind, it left Dr. Tygan's mouth. The answer... is explosives. Immediately after reporting the idea to Shen, Dr. Tygan went back to doing what he does best, tearing ADVENT corpses apart. From what I recall about my brother when he joined the ADVENT, he didn't join the military portion, but rather as an engineer. So it may not be too likely that i'll see him on the table. Seems like the Commander also has a thirst for more power. I like it. He walked into the lab, pointed at the mag rifle we had, and uttered the words, "bigger guns," and walked away. Me and the rest of the team took that to heart, and got our asses to work. Day 27: Looks like there's another mission. They seem to be heading out with the new grenade launcher design. I have a proposition for them. If they all return with smiles on their faces and dead aliens in their wake, then tonight's drinks are on me.

(Excerpt from personal logs - Joseph Miller - Maintanance and Sanitation Section, Avenger) I've been with the crew of the Avenger since Dr. Shen took on the monumental task of getting this old girl air-worthy. I still miss him. I remember we used to talk at what we affectionately refered to as the watering hole--a literal hole in one of the Avenger's interior walls we had turned into a sort of bar--during his off hours. Well, the few he gave himself. Must have been a sight, to see us two old timers going on about the old world. Before Advent and the Aliens. Back then, the most exciting part of our day was seeing our kids come home from school. I like to think our conversations gave the men some hope--I think I may have even seen Bradford crack a smile once--Remind them what they're fighting for. I was heartbroken when we lost Shen. Even at the end, his body failing underneath him, he wouldn't stop working. I imagine the men must be feeling that same heartbreak now. I know I'm not supposed to be near the bridge during operations, but I couldn't help but watch from the doorway today. I saw the feed from Corporal Grelite's body cam turn just in time to see some metallic monstrosity blast the door to splinters, and saw a flash of light before Grelite's camera jerked aside at some awful angle before coming to rest on the floor. I saw the commander's face tense up at that moment, but he didn't break stride. He kept on shouting orders, and made sure the rest of the team came home safe. I realized in that moment that the commander is a man who feels sharply every hit his team takes. He's just as much down in the trenches as the men are, even from up here, and somehow he doesn't let it slow him down. Though I imagine that empathy must take a terrible toll on him. Advent may be unbeatable, and this war unwinnable, but with the commander at the head, we just might have a chance. Tonight, I think I'll head down to the bar. The men could use some stories from this old-timer.
A letter pinned to the wall next to Grellite's memorial portrait: "Never knew him, but from what the people of X-Com say, he was around since the beginning, back before ADVENT, during the time X-Com was an actual military force rather than just a resistance militia. I was told they captured him and placed him in stasis just as they did the Commander. They probably thought he was a valuable war asset due to his past experience on the front lines in the X-Com project during the invasion. Seeing him out on the field now shows me firsthand that ADVENT had a good reason to use him. But now..... God dammit! It's hard to write this as I remember what happened. He never saw that mech coming, I wish I was there to save him, I wish I could've taken the bullet for him. I wish he were still alive today. Glad Pious killed that motherfucking piece of scrap! Though I know it's not good to dwell on the past, what matters is that he was a martyr. He knew the risk when he rejoined his fellow comrades, just as I knew the risk when I signed up for this. ChristopherOdd I am pretty sure that she never has and on the last video someone else commented that she hasn't missed aswell. So I think it is not just me, but you have video proof if you want to check ;-) EDIT: actually no it was episode 8 sorry
+KEine Ahnung I specifically downloaded the character bin to look for Nora but she doesn't seem to be in there. I thought maybe the .bin updated with only new characters but Aeneas is in there.... So I guess I don't know how the bin works.
Man that 28% crit on the MEC saved this mission super hard. Aliens know where all your soldiers are, even in situations that they did not in EU/EW, leaving Grelite in that room without cover from the direction the aliens were standing at sealed his fate. Even if the MEC didn't kill him there, all other aliens, except maybe for the sectoid, would have gone for him.
A piece of advice. In situations like at the end of this mission, make sure to hack. You could have tried the hack with no consequence as there were no more enemies on the map. Even if the feedback effect had been something worse like defense boosts etc you still cold have a taken a shot at some free alloys as there was no way that trooper was going to survive. Please keep this in mind in future videos, wouldn't want you missing out on practically free bonuses. Loving the videos by the way.
+Rafael Monteiro it used to be that way, but i remember someone saying if the soldier has never been seen since the action started it's hidden to the AI. i don't mean concealment but the transition from no active pods to activated pods. in this case however grelite was in view. :(
+sbraz From my experience so far is that they see the same way your own squad sees. So in this case the mec "remembered" that Grelite was there from the previous turn. A squad sight sniper won't be found as easily though or, if you have the skills necessary, to shoot and then move.
Hmm have to backtrack a bit just mind controlled via hack while my squad was not in line of sight although not concealed from enemy pod. They immediately knew where my soldiers where it may just be that on initial activation they get to know where you are but then after that you can move out of los.
-Acquired ADVENT Engagement from mission "Heaven's Quake": USER: General Olsen- Second Report on Resistance liquidation efforts, for notes on existence of these reports, query mission log of Op. Light Runner. In an effort to slow an apparently increasing amount of organized Resistance, we have begun operations to disrupt possible intelligence leaks and cut resources that may be leaking to Resistance fighters. The latter of these two has been copleted without error, however, the former was met with some complications. The initial setup was constructed and being transmitted inside of the homestead of an ADVENT Volunteer, to which the family had been compensated for their contributions. While not subtle, we decided this area still needed to be shown it was under ADVENT protection during this operation, and as such, we employed a few soldiers to guard the area until the new encryption packet was uploaded. At 06:45 hours, when the upload had reached roughly 70%, we encountered more Resistance aggression. We immediately lost one of our Serpentine cousins and one of our brother's in arms upon the initial ambush. A Sectoid lead group also received minor damage upon the initial threat. After the initial ambush, I am positive of this: The Resistance teams we have been engaging within the past couple months are the same. Footage from one of our troopers cameras confirms this, as upon climbing a nearby roof to outmaneuver the hostiles during this operation, we received a clear image of a Resistance lackey that we had previously seen at other locations around the globe. We MUST immediately heighten our surveillance team's abilities to find these Resistance centers and find out where they are coming from if we are to quell this uprising before more innocent civilians are armed and the Avatar Project is put in jeopardy. I have also discovered that these Resistance fighters are somehow gaining new technology, as they are no longer using only simplified ballistic weaponry that is damaging our ordnance and our brothers, sisters, and cousins in arms severely in a much quicker fashion. Our exterior patrols were murdered by the time our uploading capabilities reached 85% capacity and by 90% it had been destroyed in a barbaric fashion. These Resistance members are not elegant in their execution, as they decided to just destroy our relay instead of use some form of hacking equipment or even hitting the ETHEREAL BLESSED BUTTO-... Excuse me... Hitting the switch to turn it off. Unfortunately, this means the encryption algorithm that was being upload is useless, as it is not a complete function. As such, our ability to harden our network's digital security is still in a more compromising situation. The security system did trigger however, and an armed response quickly dispatched itself to the location. During which the remaining central security force was engaged with this Resistance team. Upon touchdown, two of our troopers were eliminated, and, after a Sectoid managed to cause a slight panic in one of the resistance soldiers, killed the leader of the response team. It was at this time some inner-city security that had received word of this engagement nearby had managed to arrive. One mechanized unit, and two riot control specialists were deployed. One of these Riot patrolmen were able to temporarily disable one o the Resistance fighters at the expense of its own safety, the other failed and both were eliminated because of it, leaving the mechanized unit and the previously mentioned Sectoid and two responders from the initial deployment. The Resistance shows little restraint, as they were more than willing to vandalize and utterly destroy homesteads as well as shoot at our soldiers when civilians are nearby trying to escape into our safety and away from danger. Our Mechanized unit showed ambush capability, as it then stormed into the garage of the homestead the relay had been established in and promptly liquidated one of the Resistance members. Unfortunately it then met heavy retaliation by the same Resistance member that had ambushed out members from atop the roof during the engagement's beginning. I noted these Gremlins in use again providing medical aid to injured Resistance fighters. Perhaps we can implement something similar? While proving to be effective in their methods, our Riot Suppression Teams need to be more aware of their surroundings when attempting to pacify Resistance scum. While able to temporarily stun one of them, it left him in a compromising position and was slaughtered because of it. Shortly after that, the Sectoid that had been putting up a valiant fight finally met a similar fate. At this point, we only had one remaining trooper who was attempting to shelter the homeowner before being assaulted by explosives, further proving my suspicion that these Resistance members do not care what gets in their way, be it our loyal security forces or civilian alike. Unfortunately the soldier did not make it. I assume the worst for the homeowner as the camera feed was cut shortly afterwards. On a positive note, our soldiers appear to be showing more capability on eliminating the Resistance threat as injury and casualties on the Resistance side during this engagement seems to be improving. In the time between this engagement and the time this report is filed, I am also noticing a lack of supplies in some major city centers as well as attacks on these supply chains that have been organized and shipped. I am theorizing this may be one method that these Resistance fighters are using to keep their soldiers in what shape they are in. -Initial Retrieval Code Ends.- @ChristopherOdd

Andromeda's logs - #3 I'm finally ready for combat whenever I'm needed. I can't say I'm not nervous though. I'd heard great things about Grelite, but... you know. I've tried to cheer myself up a bit by daydreaming, and one thing that kept coming to mind was those stun lancers. They remind me of Daft Punk with their helmets and such. I'm sure if I'm ever up against one I won't give them any mercy th... oh. I just got called up. Alright then.

Day 18... Comms officer... Grelite was a hero and will always be but when such icons depart, it hurts the worst. The mixture of anguish and hopelessness in Commander's voice when that MEC came through the door was unimaginable. How does he do that? How does he pushes such feelings to the back of his mind and comes back so strongly. Well, we know he is still hurting and are sure, he will mourn in the only way he knows, by killing more of those god damned aliens. Keep it up commander. Many have already given and many more will give their lives because we believe in you.

CHRIS... Using 'STOCK' is not that bad. Many times you are down to one hit point on an enemy and of course even with a miss you get that 'Hit' due to Stock...
@FormThisWayI always gave my rookies stocks and crit upgrades that were less than 15%. Until their aim gets up and I can get them a good scope and expanded mag.
All I've done these past few days is travel. It feels odd not having a place to return to, but I've got a mission: to find anything that will help us defeat ADVENT. New York seemed to be the best choice but I'm regreting the travel time. Thier faces still burn in my mind, driving me forward. Laurie and Shin, Vlad and Marco, dead. I have trouble sleeping. Reached the outskirts of New York, headed fora resistance safehouse. John gave me the address. It's an old building pre-dating the invasion, and it shows the abuse of time with broken windows and peeling paint. An older man challanges me as I walk in, but I know the password. He shows me to the basement, where half a dozen more people are resting on the dirt floor. Food is piled in the corner. People again, after days afield. I feel at home again. -Jack Joshua
Ah right. I had a kind of separate bug, nothing was going on for like 20 seconds and suddenly a dead sectoid literally shits out 2 loot items. Like they shot right out of his ass.
+ZorrroUK and literally today my soldier turned into vacuum cleaner, or black hole, depends on what you prefer. There were 2 muton bodies and a dead snake with loot nearby. When my soldier grabbed loot, not only items were sucked into his pockets, but also dead bodies jumped towards him and flew 2-3 meters each. It was spectacular.
Hey Odd! At the end of the mission with only 1 trooper alive, u could try to hack that tower and get the alloys. The feedback would result in all enemies being alerted so... Just something to take in mind next time ^^'
sucks that it had to be grelite, but i wouldnt worry too much about it in terms of "could i do better" etc. the second the mech appeared i called that someone was gonna die, and given how chaotic the situation got im impressed that it was just one. keep up the good work!
+Big Boss Not always true, you can use the sword at the end of a dash move meaning you could hit an enemy behind good cover that you would be unlikely to hit with your shotgun that turn for example. Swords have their uses thanks to this extra range. Also it means saving on ammo of course.
Helois Gevit You can still use your sword even with a shotgun focused ranger, you also have run and gun just for this purpose. Ammo is never an issue either if you play right
Yeah, always focus fire on the strongest/closest enemy. For instance that Mech, meanwhile while you're focusing fire on the men in the back. That mech was standing up close and in the open, can't change the past now, but hopefully a good tip for the future.

Rather than having Skinner taking the last shot, you should have had him try to hack the tower for the resources, since the penalty didn't matter as all enemy cells had already been agroed. Little things for eventual big gains.
Never heard of this genre before absolutely unique and addictive, just finished Mutant year zero on hard difficulty and man it was a good game, I'm planning to start with xcom probably xcom2
I wonder if the door block strategy could have been used. Just moving Grelite in front of the door to block the mech's movement, because when have you ever seen the aliens "open" a door? They always bust through them. It might have saved his life

I was really glad I researched and built the turrets when the Avenger defense mission came along, but I didn't realize they weren't automated! It was kind of a pain in the ass having to micromanage FOUR freakin' turrets each turn, especially once I'd pushed back the enemy far enough, and they had nothing to do. It also made me realize that when you put a unit on OW, you don't then move on to the next, it starts over at the top of the rotation and you have to click all the way through again. DOUBLE pain in the ass!!
I really shouldn't be watching this, I don't want to spoil the game for myself before I can play it. But this is just too addictive! Congrats on the series so far
Pretty hardcore way for Grelite to go out, though: run to full cover in a useful position, take out a guy with a crit even when panicked, take out another guy with another crit after being steadied. That MEC came after him because it knew he was the greatest threat and would only be neutralised if the MEC took him out at spitting distance. And remember, Grelite will be watching. From the bar wall.
A suggestion if i may: When you are down to the last enemy, you should try to hack the tower. Even if he gets a large defense boost, grenades dont care for defense...
PSA about Mec Units, they can't grenade volley while there is a roof of any kind, as it's a massive upwards firing arc. (Learned this by hacking one and tried to fire while inside.) So it should be fairly safe indoors when fighting Mecs.

BTW - I think you can prevent enemies from opening the door by just standing right in front of it. Since two characters can't occupy the same space and being behind the door blocks their path, this will prevent enemy movement through doors...just a theory though :o
Central, Informing the family of, Cpl. Albert Grelite, Dear Mr. & Mrs. Grelite I regretfully inform you that your son Albert was killed in the line of duty. And though he was struck down in the midst of combat, his sacrifice was not one that went to waste. Albert was shot by a mech droid who was shorty later demolished by his superior officer Sgt. John Aenea with a critical shot right in the cerebral processing unit, Albert was taking cover in a garage after experiencing panic brought on by an enemy mental "attack", but even in that state he brought down an officer who would have done great damage to his teammates. By no lesser term Cpl. Grelite, your son, was a hero in every sense. Saving lives, rescuing civilians, taking down enemies and just generally kicking some major ass. He will not be forgotten and his name will live on in the gun that slayed his killer. Why not pick up the loot with another character before completing the mission with that last kill? Do you automatically collect any loot that is still available when the mission is over?
Just after watching this, I lost one of my best soldiers, Razor, to a sectopod in the end of a mission. He was a ranger, and I avenged him with my other ranger's sword, and thereafter named her shotgun after him. Ironically she was gravely wounded and the other four were uninjured. Time to train his replacement, and get revenge in his name.
Well, i was introduced to xcom a month ago by Odd. already rocking ironman classic with second wave even though i have to write a thesis and graduate this semester :) Thinking of moving on to ironman impossible soon. xcom 2 has to wait till i graduate. Till then, will keep learning from Odd...
Grelite fought in the initial invasion of Earth and rejoined his comrades after a long absence. I guess 20 years of fighting alien aggression has finally took its toll on him. RIP.

Grelite is dead... I can't get my hand to stop shaking. Ever since the Firebrand doors shut and the adrenaline has faded my knuckles have been white. I can't believe he's gone... He was the One... That's what we called him. Highest marks in his GT Tests. I never thought I'd make it through a mission that he didn't. He's the one that started calling me "The Pious". A quip at the fact that I bought him a drink when we first met in the bar of the Avenger. He was the best friend I've had since the invasion... He never saw the Mech coming. Nobody did. He dropped right in front of my eyes. I killed that Mech. But it doesn't help the pain...

Literally saluted. Was so satisfied when that 10 damage crit nailed that mech. Sometimes I wish this series had gore and deformity; would've made it so much more satisfying to see that damn machine blown into spare parts.

Grelite was killed not because of an Advent Mech but rather his commander's ego. The mission had been achieved. The squad could have pulled back to the house behind them to defend. Everyone in full cover with a couple of them manning the 2nd floor windows.

Journal of John Parks, Rookie and Janitor: Looks like they lost another one. Grelite. Shame, the guy was pretty cool. Didn't intentionally bump me as I was mopping like some of the other hot shots. Looks like they were field testing those fancy mag-guns the brains made. Part of me hopes I one day get out there like my Dad did 20 years ago. Chris: I know you have an aversion to hacking towers, but if you have the chance to get a non-mission boost of some kind (raise hacking, data cache) and the end of mission is certain (read: one almost dead xray left), you may chance the hack before taking the final blow, even if you fail.

Avenger Medical Facility, May 10th
"God, were do we start today. The soldiers went to disrupt an ADVENT relay that was transmitting sensible data. It all seemed to go well, but our guys were pinned down for a bit, dealing with a turret, and had to rush for the relay. And as always, when things get rushed, they tend to go to hell even faster.
Lieutenant Grelite was KIA by a devastating barrage from the rifle of an ADVENT mechanized infantry. The shots pierced the thorax in a diagonal direction, ventral to dorsal, left to right, cranial to caudal. The shots pierced the left lung, the heart, the Aorta and even the liver and the lover right lung. One bullet even pierced the skull, but I believe Albert Grelite was already dead and falling when that one hit him. No degree of medical technology could have saved him. Commander seemed particularly saddened by the lost.
Corporal Tudor Dumitrascu was repeatedly hit with stun lances, on the abdomen and chest regions. He will live, but the injuries are serious (a couple of cracked ribs, deep tissues electrocutions, an open wound that required deep stitches) and we'll need to keep him off the field for at least 18 days. Dr. Tygan seemed ... angry, while treating this soldier wounds. I think he saw this kind of "peace keeping" before.
The rest of the guys were simmering with rage, Lt. John Aeneas came down a couple of hours later with a minor scratch on his knuckles (disinfected and bandaged, no real treatment necessary. The man knows how to throw a punch), Lt. Mayu Polo had to be brought in from the canteen and receive a gastric lavage (he gulped down FIVE bottles of vodka. FIVE.), nothing major a day of rest and he'll be ok ("probably less" he replied).
Sgt. Skinner hasn't spoke since, except with "miss" Shen, who then asked me something for an headache. My bet he asked her how to improve the coordination and reaction times of the GREMLIN.
Mood's pretty dark this month around, but we will keep on going. We're working EXACTLY so that nobody else has to suffer this any longer. Hoping that Dr. Tygan let's me assist him on the viper autopsy when is time, I have a certain curiosity to resolve"

Day 18: Here we go. First mission with the new weapons. My hopes are with the squad, and I wish the Commander all the luck in the world. This could be the turning point we've all been dreaming of.
What happened out there? I can't believe we lost another one. Poor Grelite. I didn't know the man that well, didn't really have a chance to even be in the same room for more than ten seconds. I prey for the safety and sanity of all those close to him. And may he finally rest in peace. I vow in the name of humanity that his death will not go unanswered, will not go like the sun does every single day, will not go... like the rest of my family.
Day 26: Dr. Tygan seems to have quite the sinister mind, much like myself. When we were near completion of our autopsy, I began to think of ways this research could be of most use to the troops. And just as the thought entered my mind, it left Dr. Tygan's mouth. The answer... is explosives. Immediately after reporting the idea to Shen, Dr. Tygan went back to doing what he does best, tearing ADVENT corpses apart. From what I recall about my brother when he joined the ADVENT, he didn't join the military portion, but rather as an engineer. So it may not be too likely that i'll see him on the table.
Seems like the Commander also has a thirst for more power. I like it. He walked into the lab, pointed at the mag rifle we had, and uttered the words, "bigger guns," and walked away. Me and the rest of the team took that to heart, and got our asses to work.
Day 27: Looks like there's another mission. They seem to be heading out with the new grenade launcher design. I have a proposition for them. If they all return with smiles on their faces and dead aliens in their wake, then tonight's drinks are on me.

I've been with the crew of the Avenger since Dr. Shen took on the monumental task of getting this old girl air-worthy. I still miss him. I remember we used to talk at what we affectionately refered to as the watering hole--a literal hole in one of the Avenger's interior walls we had turned into a sort of bar--during his off hours. Well, the few he gave himself. Must have been a sight, to see us two old timers going on about the old world. Before Advent and the Aliens. Back then, the most exciting part of our day was seeing our kids come home from school. I like to think our conversations gave the men some hope--I think I may have even seen Bradford crack a smile once--Remind them what they're fighting for.
I was heartbroken when we lost Shen. Even at the end, his body failing underneath him, he wouldn't stop working. I imagine the men must be feeling that same heartbreak now. I know I'm not supposed to be near the bridge during operations, but I couldn't help but watch from the doorway today. I saw the feed from Corporal Grelite's body cam turn just in time to see some metallic monstrosity blast the door to splinters, and saw a flash of light before Grelite's camera jerked aside at some awful angle before coming to rest on the floor. I saw the commander's face tense up at that moment, but he didn't break stride. He kept on shouting orders, and made sure the rest of the team came home safe. I realized in that moment that the commander is a man who feels sharply every hit his team takes. He's just as much down in the trenches as the men are, even from up here, and somehow he doesn't let it slow him down. Though I imagine that empathy must take a terrible toll on him.
Advent may be unbeatable, and this war unwinnable, but with the commander at the head, we just might have a chance.
Tonight, I think I'll head down to the bar. The men could use some stories from this old-timer.

I think if a soldier panics but manages to kill an enemy, that should then remove the panic.

"Never knew him, but from what the people of X-Com say, he was around since the beginning, back before ADVENT, during the time X-Com was an actual military force rather than just a resistance militia. I was told they captured him and placed him in stasis just as they did the Commander. They probably thought he was a valuable war asset due to his past experience on the front lines in the X-Com project during the invasion. Seeing him out on the field now shows me firsthand that ADVENT had a good reason to use him.

God dammit! It's hard to write this as I remember what happened.
He never saw that mech coming, I wish I was there to save him, I wish I could've taken the bullet for him. I wish he were still alive today. Glad Pious killed that motherfucking piece of scrap!

Man that 28% crit on the MEC saved this mission super hard.
Aliens know where all your soldiers are, even in situations that they did not in EU/EW, leaving Grelite in that room without cover from the direction the aliens were standing at sealed his fate. Even if the MEC didn't kill him there, all other aliens, except maybe for the sectoid, would have gone for him.
This is amazing. I finish episode 9, reload, and episode 10 is already out. Do not cease mass production of xcom!

A piece of advice. In situations like at the end of this mission, make sure to hack. You could have tried the hack with no consequence as there were no more enemies on the map. Even if the feedback effect had been something worse like defense boosts etc you still cold have a taken a shot at some free alloys as there was no way that trooper was going to survive. Please keep this in mind in future videos, wouldn't want you missing out on practically free bonuses. Loving the videos by the way.

it used to be that way, but i remember someone saying if the soldier has never been seen since the action started it's hidden to the AI. i don't mean concealment but the transition from no active pods to activated pods.
in this case however grelite was in view. :(
+sbraz From my experience so far is that they see the same way your own squad sees. So in this case the mec "remembered" that Grelite was there from the previous turn. A squad sight sniper won't be found as easily though or, if you have the skills necessary, to shoot and then move.
Not so sure. I've often flanked a pod with several of my units by sending one or two to trigger them from a different direction.
Hmm have to backtrack a bit just mind controlled via hack while my squad was not in line of sight although not concealed from enemy pod. They immediately knew where my soldiers where it may just be that on initial activation they get to know where you are but then after that you can move out of los.

Second Report on Resistance liquidation efforts, for notes on existence of these reports, query mission log of Op. Light Runner.
In an effort to slow an apparently increasing amount of organized Resistance, we have begun operations to disrupt possible intelligence leaks and cut resources that may be leaking to Resistance fighters. The latter of these two has been copleted without error, however, the former was met with some complications.
The initial setup was constructed and being transmitted inside of the homestead of an ADVENT Volunteer, to which the family had been compensated for their contributions. While not subtle, we decided this area still needed to be shown it was under ADVENT protection during this operation, and as such, we employed a few soldiers to guard the area until the new encryption packet was uploaded.
At 06:45 hours, when the upload had reached roughly 70%, we encountered more Resistance aggression. We immediately lost one of our Serpentine cousins and one of our brother's in arms upon the initial ambush. A Sectoid lead group also received minor damage upon the initial threat.
After the initial ambush, I am positive of this:
The Resistance teams we have been engaging within the past couple months are the same.
Footage from one of our troopers cameras confirms this, as upon climbing a nearby roof to outmaneuver the hostiles during this operation, we received a clear image of a Resistance lackey that we had previously seen at other locations around the globe. We MUST immediately heighten our surveillance team's abilities to find these Resistance centers and find out where they are coming from if we are to quell this uprising before more innocent civilians are armed and the Avatar Project is put in jeopardy. I have also discovered that these Resistance fighters are somehow gaining new technology, as they are no longer using only simplified ballistic weaponry that is damaging our ordnance and our brothers, sisters, and cousins in arms severely in a much quicker fashion.
Our exterior patrols were murdered by the time our uploading capabilities reached 85% capacity and by 90% it had been destroyed in a barbaric fashion. These Resistance members are not elegant in their execution, as they decided to just destroy our relay instead of use some form of hacking equipment or even hitting the ETHEREAL BLESSED BUTTO-... Excuse me... Hitting the switch to turn it off. Unfortunately, this means the encryption algorithm that was being upload is useless, as it is not a complete function. As such, our ability to harden our network's digital security is still in a more compromising situation.
The security system did trigger however, and an armed response quickly dispatched itself to the location. During which the remaining central security force was engaged with this Resistance team. Upon touchdown, two of our troopers were eliminated, and, after a Sectoid managed to cause a slight panic in one of the resistance soldiers, killed the leader of the response team.
It was at this time some inner-city security that had received word of this engagement nearby had managed to arrive. One mechanized unit, and two riot control specialists were deployed. One of these Riot patrolmen were able to temporarily disable one o the Resistance fighters at the expense of its own safety, the other failed and both were eliminated because of it, leaving the mechanized unit and the previously mentioned Sectoid and two responders from the initial deployment.
The Resistance shows little restraint, as they were more than willing to vandalize and utterly destroy homesteads as well as shoot at our soldiers when civilians are nearby trying to escape into our safety and away from danger.
Our Mechanized unit showed ambush capability, as it then stormed into the garage of the homestead the relay had been established in and promptly liquidated one of the Resistance members. Unfortunately it then met heavy retaliation by the same Resistance member that had ambushed out members from atop the roof during the engagement's beginning.
I noted these Gremlins in use again providing medical aid to injured Resistance fighters. Perhaps we can implement something similar?
While proving to be effective in their methods, our Riot Suppression Teams need to be more aware of their surroundings when attempting to pacify Resistance scum. While able to temporarily stun one of them, it left him in a compromising position and was slaughtered because of it. Shortly after that, the Sectoid that had been putting up a valiant fight finally met a similar fate.
At this point, we only had one remaining trooper who was attempting to shelter the homeowner before being assaulted by explosives, further proving my suspicion that these Resistance members do not care what gets in their way, be it our loyal security forces or civilian alike. Unfortunately the soldier did not make it. I assume the worst for the homeowner as the camera feed was cut shortly afterwards.
On a positive note, our soldiers appear to be showing more capability on eliminating the Resistance threat as injury and casualties on the Resistance side during this engagement seems to be improving. In the time between this engagement and the time this report is filed, I am also noticing a lack of supplies in some major city centers as well as attacks on these supply chains that have been organized and shipped. I am theorizing this may be one method that these Resistance fighters are using to keep their soldiers in what shape they are in.

Grelite was a hero and will always be but when such icons depart, it hurts the worst. The mixture of anguish and hopelessness in Commander's voice when that MEC came through the door was unimaginable. How does he do that? How does he pushes such feelings to the back of his mind and comes back so strongly. Well, we know he is still hurting and are sure, he will mourn in the only way he knows, by killing more of those god damned aliens. Keep it up commander. Many have already given and many more will give their lives because we believe in you.

The enemies in XCOM 2 still see whole team, when at least one member is spotted[when not in concealment]. So that death was your mistake.

Today's top story, a small terrorist unit launch a brutal attack in Southern Seattle.
The attack, believed to be carried out by members so-called XCOM, stormed an ADVENT communications relay today, killing 14 of our loyal troops and destroying millions of dollars worth of priceless equipment in the process.
One eyewtiness, Huo Chang, described the attackers as "hateful" and "backwards". He goes on to say that he was "Glad one of the Terrorists won't be going home tonight".
A sentiment shared by us here as well, at the peace-loving World News channel.
The Attack is one of an increasing series of assaults from so-called XCOM, with dozens of ADVENT and Civilians alike coming under fire in various hot-spots around New America and Mexico.

Using 'STOCK' is not that bad.
Many times you are down to one hit point on an enemy and of course even with a miss you get that 'Hit' due to Stock...

@FormThisWayI always gave my rookies stocks and crit upgrades that were less than 15%. Until their aim gets up and I can get them a good scope and expanded mag.

All I've done these past few days is travel. It feels odd not having a place to return to, but I've got a mission: to find anything that will help us defeat ADVENT. New York seemed to be the best choice but I'm regreting the travel time. Thier faces still burn in my mind, driving me forward. Laurie and Shin, Vlad and Marco, dead. I have trouble sleeping.
Reached the outskirts of New York, headed fora resistance safehouse. John gave me the address. It's an old building pre-dating the invasion, and it shows the abuse of time with broken windows and peeling paint. An older man challanges me as I walk in, but I know the password. He shows me to the basement, where half a dozen more people are resting on the dirt floor. Food is piled in the corner. People again, after days afield. I feel at home again.

Ah right. I had a kind of separate bug, nothing was going on for like 20 seconds and suddenly a dead sectoid literally shits out 2 loot items. Like they shot right out of his ass.
+ZorrroUK and literally today my soldier turned into vacuum cleaner, or black hole, depends on what you prefer.
There were 2 muton bodies and a dead snake with loot nearby. When my soldier grabbed loot, not only items were sucked into his pockets, but also dead bodies jumped towards him and flew 2-3 meters each. It was spectacular.

Hey Odd! At the end of the mission with only 1 trooper alive, u could try to hack that tower and get the alloys. The feedback would result in all enemies being alerted so... Just something to take in mind next time ^^'
sucks that it had to be grelite, but i wouldnt worry too much about it in terms of "could i do better" etc. the second the mech appeared i called that someone was gonna die, and given how chaotic the situation got im impressed that it was just one. keep up the good work!
Your guys have swords. Use them.

+underworld mark unless your ranger has increased meele damage , hellweave & reaper - you can use it on 3 guys , not before softing em up with nades!
+Big Boss Not always true, you can use the sword at the end of a dash move meaning you could hit an enemy behind good cover that you would be unlikely to hit with your shotgun that turn for example. Swords have their uses thanks to this extra range. Also it means saving on ammo of course.

You can still use your sword even with a shotgun focused ranger, you also have run and gun just for this purpose. Ammo is never an issue either if you play right

Yeah, always focus fire on the strongest/closest enemy. For instance that Mech, meanwhile while you're focusing fire on the men in the back. That mech was standing up close and in the open, can't change the past now, but hopefully a good tip for the future.

Rather than having Skinner taking the last shot, you should have had him try to hack the tower for the resources, since the penalty didn't matter as all enemy cells had already been agroed. Little things for eventual big gains.

Never heard of this genre before absolutely unique and addictive, just finished Mutant year zero on hard difficulty and man it was a good game, I'm planning to start with xcom probably xcom2

I wonder if the door block strategy could have been used. Just moving Grelite in front of the door to block the mech's movement, because when have you ever seen the aliens "open" a door? They always bust through them. It might have saved his life

i like how he could of gotten alloys if he would of hacked the tower near the end of mission
I was really glad I researched and built the turrets when the Avenger defense mission came along, but I didn't realize they weren't automated! It was kind of a pain in the ass having to micromanage FOUR freakin' turrets each turn, especially once I'd pushed back the enemy far enough, and they had nothing to do. It also made me realize that when you put a unit on OW, you don't then move on to the next, it starts over at the top of the rotation and you have to click all the way through again. DOUBLE pain in the ass!!

Pretty hardcore way for Grelite to go out, though: run to full cover in a useful position, take out a guy with a crit even when panicked, take out another guy with another crit after being steadied. That MEC came after him because it knew he was the greatest threat and would only be neutralised if the MEC took him out at spitting distance.
And remember, Grelite will be watching. From the bar wall.
Not sure but think I did it. You can open doors without breaking concealment just not bust through them. Might come in handy sometime.
A suggestion if i may: When you are down to the last enemy, you should try to hack the tower. Even if he gets a large defense boost, grenades dont care for defense...

PSA about Mec Units, they can't grenade volley while there is a roof of any kind, as it's a massive upwards firing arc. (Learned this by hacking one and tried to fire while inside.) So it should be fairly safe indoors when fighting Mecs.

BTW - I think you can prevent enemies from opening the door by just standing right in front of it. Since two characters can't occupy the same space and being behind the door blocks their path, this will prevent enemy movement through doors...just a theory though :o

By no lesser term Cpl. Grelite, your son, was a hero in every sense. Saving lives, rescuing civilians, taking down enemies and just generally kicking some major ass. He will not be forgotten and his name will live on in the gun that slayed his killer. We will be sending his body home to you along with the mech (we ask you either just use him as a beating post or turn him into a hightech toilet) and enough alcohol that you can either fall into a coma or host an awesome wake in his honor.

Why not pick up the loot with another character before completing the mission with that last kill? Do you automatically collect any loot that is still available when the mission is over?
Just after watching this, I lost one of my best soldiers, Razor, to a sectopod in the end of a mission. He was a ranger, and I avenged him with my other ranger's sword, and thereafter named her shotgun after him. Ironically she was gravely wounded and the other four were uninjured. Time to train his replacement, and get revenge in his name.
Well, i was introduced to xcom a month ago by Odd. already rocking ironman classic with second wave even though i have to write a thesis and graduate this semester :)
Thinking of moving on to ironman impossible soon.
xcom 2 has to wait till i graduate.
Till then, will keep learning from Odd...
On the one hand, the autopsy mask is pretty cool. On the other hand, they really should have created an entire body suit model for the good doctor.
Grelite fought in the initial invasion of Earth and rejoined his comrades after a long absence. I guess 20 years of fighting alien aggression has finally took its toll on him. RIP.
