  • The Berlin Wall was constructed in August 1961. Though called and anti fascist protection wall by the communists who built it, it was nothing more than a wall to stop the "brain drain" from East Germany (DDR). 2021 marks 60 years since the wall was constructed. Though the wall lasted only 29 years, it's impact has been felt well beyond 1989. Of the escapes made immediately after the wall went up, Konrad Schumann is perhaps the best known. Happily for history, the moment was capture on film and in an iconic photo.
