Hi been looking at these jackets for a while, but not sure which size to purchase Im about 5ft 7inch tall 11.5 stone not to big what size is the jacket in the video? thanks info would be great. thanks Colin
Another great vid bud! Not a bad looking softshell for £160 but not with that awful branding on the back. I'd have to get shot of the velcro battle patch backings too
may i ask is the Jacket Wind Proof like they clame i'm thinking about buying this myself i ride a Harley i'm looking for something to stop the wind ya know??
two things bother me about this jacket: 1. a good jacket, but trousers get wet, so you'd need a set. 2. with prices like these, there shouldn't be a big advertisement on the jacket. (i still prefer the old swiss army rain-set (hat, jacket (convertable between jacket and coat), trousers). if you don't go for a swim in the clothes, you stay dry all day (except you move a lot, it will start to accumulate condensation ;) ALSO what i'd expect from the more expensive outdoor-clothes: some info about how to take care of that thing; like "with which products" one could renew the insulation aso. mostly, it's "try and error"
Hi Wooly, can I ask, in your experience, how warm is the jacket vs the 3 in 1? I am looking for something for the winter, I am often out shooting, so I want something I move in, I don't want lots and lots of layers. Cheers
The 3 in 1 is fairly lightweight compared to this one but better waterproof, if your looking something lightweight, waterproof that you don't mind trashing, I'd look at military surplus goretex
@@RedBranchBushcraft I don't suppose you might have a recommendation, it's quite difficult to know which way to go with it. I am after something warm and waterproof that isn't a fortune. Thank you for help
@PaulGoossens-c2m that's the grail right there, warm, waterproof and hard wearing? Budget no option look at hilltrek ventile jackets , budget look at layering with military surplus
In my experience nothing holds up in torrential rain except something rubber , like a heavy poncho. I've had this out in heavy showers and it's been fine
@@RedBranchBushcraft They make ocean drysuits out of Goretex - designed for people with waves coming over them or even falling in the sea. Goretex membrane is 100% waterproof if intact. You might sweat in them but they can definitely keep rain out.
@@RedBranchBushcraft Right, nothing stands up to torrential rain except a rubber coat, and those are miserable things. Rain won’t get in, but you sweat so much you’ll be just as wet anyway.
The whole point in softshells is that they're much more breathable than membrane based materials like Goretex. If they don't have a membrane then they are not waterproof. If they do have a membrane then they're not very breathable. So the idea of a softshell waterproof makes little sense unless they've come up with some novel technology, like say Paramo have, and even they're not truely waterproof in the say Goretex is. Baerskin don't mention what waterproofing tech they are using other than mentioning a DWR. DWR isn't waterproofing it's just surface repellancy - works for a shower.
Pit zips are awesome for ventilation, and I don’t mind the logo on it and you can hardly even see it anyway and who cares about fashion. I ordered mine a size large for room for a jacket underneath really more for winter snowstorm shell as we don’t get all that much wet rain weather here just a rare shower.
Baerskin has reduced the price of all its products because buyers understand that a great rain jacket *needs* pit zips, which none of its jackets have. They are scrambling to offload everything before crashing.
I've been looking up reviews of Baerskin and the 3in1 4.0 which I've ordered and keep seeing that comment. I'd been thinking about something waterproof and warm for a week in Amsterdam the Netherlands in November which is their wettest month. Baerskin was one of the first that came up. Ordered it after reading a bit and watching a couple of videos. I hope I'm not disappointed just want to be warm and dry. It'll be around 9 to 10c daytime. Maybe 4c at night. The permanent sale that never ends is a bit dishonest. @RedBranchBushcraft
Nice one. My wife thinks we are related in some way as I do daft shit like that just to see if a jacket really is waterproof. I did the same with my Wynnchester bedroll, using it in a night when it was lashing just to prove it was waterproof….🫣. It was btw. All the best. 😂👍
Looks really good. How does it compare to your Hilltrek Ventile stuff?
It's good but you can't compare it to ventile , two very different things
Its been a wee bit wet out over the last few days. 😂😂😂
Just down moving stuff, I'm expecting red branch to be flooded by tomorrow

im about the size, this one is a medium and its good one me, i can layer up underneath

Did you not order the union flags for the sleeves ?
@@gordonmclees95 lol, no🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
and just orderd Sarma green Anorak yesterday, cos of your vid! will be with me soon, hopefully i will be satisfied! Love your style!
The windproof anorak? It's great , such a value product, I paid 150+ for something similar from a bigger brand and it was shite
Yeah green windproof from them, one you reviewed, hope will love it! looks great, cant wait, is already on the way
I would have preferred button closure on the cuffs rather than Velcro but seems like a well made jacket..Is it warm??
It's warm enough for this time of year in Ireland, I find myself wearing it a lot
@@RedBranchBushcraft Thank you
@MrBlessed70 my pleasure
Good review boss! I work outsdoors, I hill walk and do the bushcraft thing. Irish rain is insidious,it sneaks in!
I was out yesterday for 3 hours !
Do you think its actually waterproof and would stand up in torrential rain?
Or is it a stronger water resistance

Im curious, does everyone in Ireland keep a keg of beer in thier backyard?
Go Bruno!
Lol, we get one free every week, stops us from taking over the world
What’s the price point on these bad boys? Hopefully can find here in Australia…
Never mind found it

this is not how you test waterproofs :D:D
How do you test a waterproof?
@@RedBranchBushcraft Perhaps his waterproofs go with the nappies that he still wears?

Stihl frosty.

"Softshells are "water resistant," not "waterproof" as defined by U.S. law.

Scam

I heard the original bearskin fleece was a ‘scam’ too but got one anyway and it’s been my favorite jacket for a few winters now.
