I'm thoroughly enjoying your travels in Vietnam, such an incredibly beautiful country that I hadn't realised before. Thanks for posting your inspiring videos, and I'm so relieved to learn that the stomach woes were short-lived.
The old part of this pagoda was actually renovated about 35 years ago . All the ancient buildings were fallen apart . Since you are already in North Vietnam , go check-out Tam Chuc pagoda as well . It`s located in Ha Nam province , on the way to Hanoi . It`s actually closer to Hanoi than Bai Dinh ( Ninh Binh province ) . It`s currently the biggest pagoda in VN . It`s not an old one , but the scenery there is gorgeous .
was there 2 months ago fantastic place to visit get to sapa also the views are out of this world really looking forward to getting back to Vietnam it helps when 3 of your children live there lol enjoy the rest of your travelling
I wasn't born in this very place, but Ninh Binh is also my hometown and I haven't been back there for so long. Your videos about this make me feel so happy and a bit less homesick. Really appreciate it! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Wow, the pagoda is huge. I must visit this place when I am back from Canada 🇨🇦. I have left the country for a long time ago. I never had a chance to visit many places. Thanks to you, I learned to know my beautiful country. Have fun and stay safe as always !
What an awesome find! I've not seen other recent youtubers go here as they were in a hurry to get as much in as possible within 30 days before their visa expired. The whole complex is HUGE and wow, some amazing stuff there. That tall building and the views were crazy. I loved that long hallway that went forever with the stone carvings, too. And the stuff inside the cave was amazing!
The time crunch is very real with these short visas! Even with 60 days we have felt ourselves frequently having to choose between different things. It would be easy to spend a year or more here, slowly moving from province to province. This complex was very cool, though! That hallway especially. It is apparently a mile long, and it's lined the whole way with those 2-5 ton stone figures. Really an impressive spectacle when you think about the logistics behind something like that.
I've heard about this pagoda and how big it is but then I saw a video of it being filled with people during Buddhist pilgrimage and certain Buddhist holidays. I saw night footage of it too and it looks beautiful at night. I think this compound, especially the older section look amazing.
I literally just watched a documentary about the super rare formation of rainbow clouds and other rare atmospheric phenomena. You guys are so lucky to see one for real!! Great video guys. Happy Travels
I had a laugh seeing Cheveyo's dad walking so much further along the path because it reminded me of my own dad. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a dad on holiday must Stride Ahead
There are rumors and myths surrounding this pagoda, it was haunted by ghosts of dead monks from the past. But this has been gone since the rebuilding of this structure. I'm certain that it is quite an experience to visit this massive religious structure, and thank you for sharing this trip.
Hello Tia & Cheveyo 😍 So happy Dad has recovered and ready to go lol a stunning temple and Pagoda just beautiful. Thank goodness for the elevator lol. Thank you for your Vietnam journey and making Vietnam very inspiring to visit. See you on the next video take care Tia Cheveyo and dad take Care.
What an awesome sight! I'm so glad you did eventually find the elevator. I felt so bad for you when I realized that you didn't know that the elevator was on the second floor (that's what the Vietnamese part of that sign was saying). Of course, I did laugh my head off for about 15 seconds first. But it was a sympathy laugh, totally. 😁 Thanks again for sharing such a beautiful place with us. It's great inspiration for my own upcoming travels.
Hahaha we were pretty crestfallen when we initially thought there was no elevator. You read Vietnamese? That's awesome! We both find it a very challenging language, often not even hearing the subtle tonal differences when we ask how to pronounce words 😅
Yes, I speak and read the language. My mother is Vietnamese, so I grew up around it my whole life. But I didn’t actually start learning it till I was 18 (long story), so I’m not fluent. The tones are a stumbling block to anyone who isn’t familiar with tonal languages. The pronunciation challenges are offset by the relatively straightforward (from an English speaker’s perspective) grammatical structure, though, in my opinion. Like any new language, it gets easier with time and consistent usage and exposure. I’m planning to move there this fall, so I’m looking forward to drastically improving my fluency.
You guys surprised me, i thought your second video from Ninh Binh would be the boat trip from Tam coc. Having been to Tam Coc myself but never visited this huge Temple, your vlog was super interesting, in will put this on my list for next time i’ll go to Vietnam.

@@OnePackWanderers : 🌺 Wow! Really? Thank you so much!!! Except for RUclips, I'm not on other social media sites so let me think about this. It's a beautiful postcard though! So how does this work? Will you be posting it from Vietnam and is postage expensive?
@@OnePackWanderers : 🌺 You don't need to send me the actual postcard. Just knowing I won something (first time ever on RUclips!) is cool enough. Instead please give that $3 for me to someone you might see as old, infirm, or needy but still have to work hard peddling fruits and vegetables 🙏
I just discovered this Chanel and spent the day binging your SEA videos. Having been a frequent visitor to SEA over the past 12 years, I just want to let you know that you are incredibly good at capturing the things that make this such a special part of the world. You missed 2 of my absolute favourite places in Cambodia but you've made up for it with the incredible journey you're on in Vietnam (which is my absolute favourite food destination!). Can't wait to see where your adventures take you. What a beautiful journey you're on. Thanks for taking us with you ❤
What spots did we miss in Cambodia? We didn't spend nearly enough time there, and are already planning our trip back 😅 Couldn't agree more - this part of the world is very special. It is so alive and raw, but also very friendly and safe. I'm sure there's nowhere else like SEA 🙂
@@OnePackWanderers my favourite places in Cambodia are Battambang and Kampot/Kep. I have plenty of recommendations if you decide to go back and include those places. Mondulkiri is another area of Cambodia worth exploring but it does take some commitment to get there 🤣 My mother lived in Cambodia for about 8 years before covid hit so I spent a lot of time in the region and have absolutely fallen in love with SEA. I’ve been to Vietnam a few times but never to this city, temple and pagoda. It’s now on my future destinations list. It seemed like you were there alone. Are there many tourists traveling in Vietnam now? Is tourism picking up?
We have noticed tourism has gradually been picking up since we got here almost two months ago. Lots of travelers in the bigger cities. Vietnam is much different from some other places in SEA, though. It's a lot easier to get off the beaten path, where there's no tourist infrastructure at all.

@@OnePackWanderers thank you for such prompt reply, your videos are great helping me plan my trip 🤗 Please suggest any other good places in Ninh binh. And we don't know how to ride bikes 😅 so what do you suggest we do are cars available for like a tour?
Great video (again)! At this point, I think there has to be a limited edition OPW 'Tia for Scale" T-shirt or decals made for the viewers to buy. I'd stick one on my car's back window. LOL!
Wow... a gorgeous video. Beautiful angles & shots. So beautiful :)... How come it's empty? .... But, viewing it empty of people enhances the experience. ... Maybe because it's 108 degree F.
When the Vietnamese say 1000 years old building, they really meant 100. Just like 100 years old fermented egg, it's actually just 100 days. When you buy something and they tell you 100,000 dong, it's just 40,000 for the locals
Arahat is enlightened monk by listening to the Buddha's sermons. There are generally 4 levels of Buddhist monks and Arahat is the highest level monk who achieves enlightenment and nirvana, not to be reborn in perpetual cycle again, the same as Buddha. BTW, if you ever visit China, don't forget to visit Suchow. There are several old pagodas there. I know about this from this song Suchow Nocturne. ruclips.net/video/RAakn8Y-hwI/видео.html
Been a viewer since ur trip in thailand and i notice that its always tia for scale. C’mon man, when is it going be cheveyo for scale. 😂. She has been doing all the running all this while
I was following 5 different "Travel Couples"- I had to dump two of them- one was way too cheesy and over acting, the other was just selling their looks. So, of the remaining three I follow? I will keep you both humble and keep my ranking a secret. So just keep doing what you are doing- it is a winning formula. (Oops, was that a hint?) Damn the visuals were epic in this one!
Come on, drop some names. You got me all curious as to who you're talking about now. I personally am not a fan of the Delightful Travelers. Really enjoy Sammy and Tommy's videos even though their trip was 2 years ago and they are just now uploading them (they even got a comment from Sonny from The Best Ever Food Review Show...he has almost 9 million subs so that's a great compliment to them). Really loving Flora and Note a lot. Their videos are not released fast enough for my liking, but they are so well done. Also enjoyed Attila and Zae when they were in Vietnam, but they tended to put too much facetime on their videos instead of spanning the scenery as that'd be more pleasant to look at and waste less time, but they are new to vlogging and did great drone shots. I also liked 2Passports 1Dream, too. They were entertaining and pleasant to watch.
The kind words are much appreciated - thank you! We are having fun with the process, and it is very nice to hear it when someone enjoys these videos. Cheers, to Thailand! 🙂
@@OnePackWanderers Well, they also have drones and such, which helps a lot. But you guys are going at a slower pace and really showing stuff that they can't show since they are in a hurry to check their list. Besides, your caving video alone puts you right up with them since I love adventurous stuff like spelunking. And I also love that Tia learned to ride and is like a pro now.
Why are Asians so good at math...because a ticket costs 150,000 dong. Make change. 😂 Elevators 1,000 years old?? Dad is wearing jeans! It's so hot (not in a sexy way).
This place has very little or nothing to do with Buddhism. It is more of a theme park, cashing on people's spiritual needs. You don't buy tickets to go into temples , period. I was born and raised a buddhist, I don't see anything buddhist in this kind of place (maybe a little bit in the old original Bai Dinh pagoda, which has been robbed of its name) . There are plenty of sad land-grab stories behind these "biggest in Asia, biggest in SE Asia" blah blah. They just look like copies of the kind of complexes you see in China. They belong to Vietnamese oligarchs that colluded with local government to get the land cheap or even free, invest in building the place as a tourist attraction. Monks here, if there are any, are generally fake ones. I have been following your journey and loving it, just wanting to give some facts about the place
We had a conversation where we wondered about this. The buildings were very beautiful and impressive, but we did notice the only people around were venders, groundskeepers, and tourists. This was in stark contrast to some of the temples in Thailand or Bali (though not all of them). But then again, we haven't seen any significant religious or spiritual monument in our travels that hasn't been commodified to some extent. That seems to come with the territory when humans build monuments to anything, I guess.
@@OnePackWanderers please also keep in mind that we have many people from the lost regime of South Vietnam that are still very salty about the past to the point nowadays whatever development they see in Vietnam, they will try to deny and spread hate. These people are most likely funded by hostile powers opposing to our government, therefore you don't need to mind these guys. A sad fact is that during the war with America, about 80% of our cultural and historical legacies were bombed to ashes, so you can see we don't retain much to see compared to Thailand or Myanmar. It makes sense to rebuild such sites like this to maintain our culture and promote Buddhism. About the thing he/she said about Chinese stuff, many are not aware that the Forbidden Palace in China was built under the direction and followed the design of Nguyễn An, a genius mathematician and architect made eunuch from Vietnam. We should not assume everything is Chinese, not before we understand deeply about the cultures and histories of both nations
This was really enlightening, thank you for the additional context. You make a really good point about the war especially, with America destroying so many of Vietnam’s cultural sites. It makes sense to rebuild. Is Vietnam actively returning to Buddhist views? We have read online that almost 70% of Vietnam’s population is not affiliated with any religion.
@@OnePackWanderers I would say Vietnamese are already lowkey Buddhist from the beginning, and Buddhism surely is the largest religion by the community size. Since I'm not deeply knowledgeable about religions, I could present you some history. At first Vietnamese were a matriarchic society that worshipped the gods from nature and their ancestors, the mother goddesses, then Buddhism was introduced into Vietnam and flourished under the Lý and the Trần dynasties. In the later Lê dynasty, Confusianism was prioritized until the last dynasty of Nguyễn. Throughout the history, any individual that greatly contributed to the homeland would also be worshipped in a temple, for example we have the Trần temple dedicated to General Trần Hưng Đạo, the one that three times over defeated the Mongolian Empire Yuan dynasty. Such great individuals are believed to come from the heaven, and to some people, even after they pass away, they still remain, using their power to protect the people. One thing never changed for sure, the original religious tradition in which Vietnamese pray to the ancestors. In Vietam, a lot participate in Buddist activities and listen to Buddha's teachings, but most of the time on paper, they will claim to be atheists, probably due to them considering themselves not being monks.
I'm thoroughly enjoying your travels in Vietnam, such an incredibly beautiful country that I hadn't realised before. Thanks for posting your inspiring videos, and I'm so relieved to learn that the stomach woes were short-lived.

It’s hot but has rain occasionally, so you may not feel like too sweaty

iPhone 13 Pro for all the shots except the motorcycle footage, which is a DJI Action 2.

Every single one of these guys have much higher production quality than we do as well. Really excellent videos from them 🙂
The kind words are much appreciated - thank you!
@@doodahgurlie Those couples are great. You did not list any I was talking about. I do not want to be mean, just my preference.
Elevator
Cheveyo thought it was so funny that the elevator sign pointed directly to a staircase 😂🤣
