    Beau Brummel was the most famous dandy of the era - was initially friends with the Price Regent then fell out with him and fell into penury. After they fall-out he famously bumped into Lord Alvanley and the Prince on the street.He chatted to Alvanley while studiously ignoring the Prince and finally said "Tell me, Alvanley. Who is your fat friend?"

    Warren Clarke is hilarious as Amy’s industrialist father - he played Dim in Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange - he also played Oliver Cromwell in the Jacobean special of Blackadder

    I loved that they used a version of James Mason's voice for the highwayman disguise. A lovely tip of the hat to some of his roles as various dashing rogues 😊

      He was in the original film The Wicked Lady with Margaret Lockwood, later remade with Faye Dunaway , a far more lewd remake! James Mason played The Highwayman in it!

    Lady Hamilton was an actress and artists' model who, though she became "Lady" Hamilton because of her brief marriage and subsequent widowhood to the diplomat Sir William Hamilton, is best remembered today for being the mistress of Admiral Lord Nelson.
    Caroline of Brunswick, who Blackadder impersonates at 4:58, was the woman that Prince George did in fact end up marrying. She did have a reputation for being forceful in terms of personality (as well as being extremely unhygienic) but the marriage became unsuccessful because of George's repeated gambling and unfaithfulness with his illegal first wife, Maria Fitzherbert.

    That's the kind of line I long to use more often in conversation 🤣🤣🤣

    10:48 Lady Hamilton is Lady Emma Hamilton, mistress to Admiral Lord Nelson and one third of the weirdest relationship of the time.

    The balcony scene is a mickey take of a similar scene from the play 'Cyrano De Bergerac' (1897) by Edmond Rostand. The same scene appears in just about every film of the same name, the best of which I think is the 1990 French film with Gérard Depardieu.

    It's not historical fiction. The Prince Regent (future King George IV) did spend beyond his means & gambled quite a bit. He was the worst of the Hanoverian Kings. (Though you lads would probably say his father King George III was lol)

    No need to say "Over my head" when you don't get the reference. It's clear that whoever Lady Hamilton is, she must be somewhat famous for loose morals at the time (hence the joke)... that's all you need to know (she was a mistress to Lord Nelson).

      And a womaniser, and a glutton. When Miranda Richardson calls him 'Georgie Porgie', she is alluding to 'Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie. Kissed the girls and made them cry' Now considered a 'nursery rhyme' but was, in fact, a crude rhyme ridiculing Prince George...

    Seriously guys, the editing on these is genuinely making them unwatchable. I know why you chop it up, but there MUST be better ways of avoiding copyright than butchering the timing of every joke in comedy shows. I used to watch a ton of videos on this channel, but I'm basically forcing myself to watch just a few these days because of how they're chopped up. They're just not fun to watch because of the editing.

  • @scunner6828
    @scunner6828 7 месяцев назад +4

    Oh dear! These poor two are evidently struggling with this and are too busy trying to follow the language to get the jokes. This is more or less " dumbed down" Shakespeare and a lot of the Bard's comic passages need fully digesting before you get the joke. Spencer and Daniel look as if they're sweating at their school desks dreading that they are to be tested on what they are watching Haha.
