From Maggie Gyllenhaal (Academy Award-nominated writer/director of The Lost Daughter) and starring Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley and Academy Award winner Christian Bale comes THE BRIDE! A bold, iconoclastic take on one of the world’s most compelling stories.
A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
The film stars Buckley, Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, with Bening, Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar winner Penélope Cruz. Maggie Gyllenhaal directs from her own screenplay and produces alongside Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Crazy how Jessie Buckley recently said in an interview that no one at Warner Bros. wanted her to play The Bride, but Maggie fought for her. And honestly, she’s the main reason I want to see this movie, she’s been delivering consistently great and exciting work for the past five years, so of course I’m excited to see whatever she does in this role.

Never thought I’d see a Frankenstein movie with Bonnie and Clyde energy, and honestly that’s exactly what makes this interpretation so intriguing. Fingers crossed Maggie Gyllenhaal delivers a banger, her directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, was one of my favorites of that year.

I’m VERY impressed. Maggie has been directing for years but she waited till this movie to bring in her brother and her husband to help raise up the cast to full A-List status across the board. And the song fits the trailer so well it’s like Florence wrote it for this movie. I will 100% be seeing this in theaters.
