_First Contact_ led me to believe this was a Sci-Fi film. In a way it was, as foreigners are often described as aliens. In this one, thankfully, everyone survived. The visitor was facially different from the Aboriginal people, which gave away he wasn't locally born. I'm assuming he was an illegal immigrant, as the 'others', more or less, left him for dead. Many Australian films possess a gritty realism, focusing on the everyday things, even bleak and harsh conditions that are covered in a mundane, make-the-best-of-a-bad-deal fashion by the characters, which anchor them in the believable. This was no exception, I'm pleased to say. Strong, memorable performances by the actors and kudos, not just to them, but to everyone involved! You did a great job and thanks for uploading.
Thanks Billy for taking the time to watch and also to comment. You are correct in your assumptions. The stranger was a refugee who even though he'd made it to another country his past caught up with him here. I was playing with the idea of blind ignorance and racism with the father thinking he was from a local indigenous group. They are miles from anywhere and his assumption is 'He's black, he must be XYZ' without attempting to ask the man or investigate further is to highlight how ignorance works. I'm glad you got the sci-fi vibes as well as that was something I was striving for in this 'otherworldliness' of the landscape they exist in. Thanks again!
You have to push the PTT button (Push-to-Talk) on the side of the microphone in order to transmit. And you can't receive and transmit at the same time, so another station can't interrupt you and you hear it unless you are not transmitting. That's how radios work, whether Citizens Band or "Ham" (Amateur Radio).
0:18 this is irrelevant, but I wanted to point out her walking through “ a desert” I clicked on this video, but was looking through all my other options in one of the other options was “ teenager walks into the desert & mysteriously disappears”.
"First Contact not only tells a story of family but also raises questions to do with the fear of change and Australia's attitudes of race, origin and immigration." So it's basically woke? No thanks.
Hey, just checking in on you. Seeing if you have emotionally recovered from the exposure. It can be difficult to think about people with dark/different skin existing near you and entering your safe space. Luckily your mind has allowed you to shut down these complex topics by deeming them as “woke”. Therefore cognitive dissonance can prevent you from ever thinking, “Am I irrationally prejudice?” Those aren’t fun thoughts so it’s best you rest grandpa. Maybe watch less scary news and more wheel of fortune. Please take care!
@@sleepwalkersunion3246 Frankly, I'm also put off by such a description, because it almost inevitably implies some woke, e.g. ideologically biased, treatment of the subject. Wokeness itself should be the subject of films.

Wish this was a full length movie.

Very dramatic! Had me in suspense until the last.
So wt hurl was the actual plot?
Dude. Gorgeous. I'd live there.
A Good Deed indeed. My only question is, why the neck didn't he request a ride in the first place?
Not sure what I just watched...
I din't see any aliens.
Amazing pretty girl!!!
Just a 'good ol' boy' never meaning no harm...
It's groups of them that worry me.
Individuals can, sometimes, amend their ways.
Tribe mentality ruins any chance and reinforces the misconceptions.
Good ol' boy always mean harm. Despite the father helping he was still a massive bigot. The daughter wasn't. I think the daughter helped him see that.
Yeamon, willibokiks
lousy title. poor story line. but has a good vibe at the end.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Was boring. Nothing happened. Acting, camerawork, sound is all good. Just the story isn’t.
Arty farty crap. I have been to Zimbabwe, he was not Zimbabwean!
waist of time
