    Best I've come up with is my angle grinder with a cutting wheel on it. Neat clean cutting and $12.00 at harbor freight. Compress the insulation with boards and slice through it with paper side up.

    Thanks for sharing this! This works amazing! I was able to take the insulation to the wall, hold it in place, and cut it to length without measuring. I'm surprised they don't make a commercial product like this just to cut insulation.

    I need to cut insulation to fit inside a narrow bay in an open ceiling. Using this method, the facing paper also gets cut and one side can't be stapled to the joist. How would you secure the batt to the ceiling after cutting this way?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  Год назад

      You can get insulation support wires from Lowe’s or hd made for holding it in place. You may have to cut them down some too if your opening is undersized. If it’s just to hold it for a bit till the drywall is in you might get away with cutting it oversized so you still can staple some paper, otherwise the wires might be the best thing.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  5 лет назад

      Yeah but it gets dull really fast and then just tears the paper. You can do it if you have lots of blades. I’ve done it that way a lot too till I discovered this and how easy it is. Depends how much you have to do if it’s just a small project knife is fine but for anything bigger I would so recommend this. Myself I’ve done enough I hope to never touch fiberglass again if possible. Lol

      I bought one of these, not sure if I will use it on insulation in the future or food; time will tell. I guess they had an issue with the case cracking, I probably won't unbox this for a year so give me an update as to whether you see this issue or not. I know you will stress this unit so let us find out if they resolved the issue. Probably would have had a 5 star review otherwise.
      Walls open put in more electric then you think you will need.
      Not rich but I buy things and when I have time I unbox and have fun with them. I have about ten right now from kitchen stuff to woodworking latest acquisition Dewalt 745 in which I would like to make a table around which will come sooner then later.
      Your place looks like it is coming along very nicely, keep up the great work and give us and overall view of your work and update. Gerald

      Ok awesome I hope you enjoy using it. This is actually my second one. I have one at work and one for my own projects. I’ve never carved a turkey with it just insulation but they both have held up well so far.
      So yeah it sounds like you have a lot of projects are there certain ones you like working on in particular?

      @@SmartEasyDIYer ts a good idea, dont get me wrong. I work in insulation. I've tried everything. But the long snap off razors always prevail. I dont usually even snap them just change the blade out every 1 to 2 days. They also trim spray foam very well and can cut any glues off the floor. More handy than a regular razor.
