Thanks for doing this video! I've been reading through the players guide and have been looking for other people's thoughts about ToV. Personally, I quite like it, particularly because of the class abilities. I find them more interesting and evocative than the D&D versions.
Definitely worth the watch like you said. Big takeaways for me are the downtime activities, Lineage/Heritage changes, and Monster reactions/bonus actions. Looks like I have some more reading in the future. LOL. Thanks for recommending the video!
In the D&D UA you get two uses Channel Divinity at 2nd level, three at 6th level, and then four at 18th level. They now have two options for it at level 2. I think every class that has a Channel Divinity feature will get two options for it in their base class. If ToV is going to add base class options like additional Heroic and Epic Boons, I could see them adding additional things to do with your Channel Divinity in your base class.
Ya. I went back and checked after the video and saw that. Good move on their part. I like that. I think either method works out but I do like the extra boost at low level.
While many classes are buffed, I felt that monks were overall weakened with the changes to stunning strike, and only a few small buffs. The monk subclasses are very strong, though, so it may be that it balances out.
Hello I am playing a monk kobold in my campaign, and atleast early level You really feel those buffs. Getting an action dodge and bonus action to do flurry of blows level 2 feels really good to do, and I am doing a great job being a dex tank
Oh yes I have! I have been following it for a while now and bought into the Alpha early. I actually recorded a video on my homebrew rules I use in my games, many of which came from Alkander's Almanac. I just need to edit it and release it. But I do want to cover DC20. I plan to play that game a lot!
OMG - so glad you are back! You had me nervous. Looking forward to more FoundryVTT stuff. YaaaY!!! I got my books and sleeve - but the GM Screen... the BEST GM Screen out in my opinion... doesn't fit in the sleeve for some dang reason. So one thing I want to ask - Are we supposed to play TOV Subclasses right next to and including the SubClasses from 2014 PHB? I mean, since they are only giving us two subclasses per class? Also, kinda wish we had more of a Ranger and Monk base class change but clearly they are addressing that through the SubClasses.
I think, so far, the only change i dont like is the change between spell level and spell circle. I think it would be better presented as Spell Magnitude, so its a completely different word rather than character LEVEL/spell LEVEL and druid/spell CIRCLE.
I liked how it was originally named in the playtest before they started switching and changing the terminology around later on in another playtest packet.
@@thejunecooperative They did. They are now Spell Rings. 1st ring is equivalent to what was 1st level spells in base 5e. The idea was to eliminate confusion. But I have been calling them spell levels since AD&D and my brain is having trouble adjusting. 🤣
NIce video, but not feeling it,, its just a clone of 5e and well I wont give WotC any of my hard earned cash at all. I love KP but this feels like a step in the wrong direction! Hard pass.
Totally get it. For me, I love the 5e system but don't want to give WoTC money so this is the perfect compromise. I get to play an improved version of 5e and not give WoTC money! Now if you are looking for something different but not too far removed, can I suggest DC20? I am very excited about this system.
Are you trying to say that this gives money to WotC? Because it uses the Creative Commons SRD content, it doesn't financially benefit WotC in any direct way. The only issue would be keeping players in the ecosystem, but I think the only competitor that had a chance of taking a large number of 5e players out is Pathfinder 2e
@@thejunecooperative I am saying this is a way to enjoy 5e WITHOUT giving WOTC money. Its a great system that you can use your existing 5e material with be it 1st party or 3rd party and in my opinion, is a better evolution of 5e than the 2024 rules WOTC is working on.
The majority of my players create their characters on D&D Beyond. So, it doesn't matter how good or bad Tales of the Valiant is, my group won't touch it.
Demiplane is a platform made by the same people who created DnDBeyond before WoTC bought it. They cover multiple systems including TOV on there. So if your player like DNDBeyond, they will like Demiplane and they can use it for more than just 5e.
That's because most players aren't philosophically principled and will support woke/collectivist nonsense for pragmatic convenience (due to intellectual laziness). That's why we're moving to Demiplane, where the guy who CREATED D&D Beyond now works. If the creator of the platform left to go elsewhere that should tell you something. Of course, they paid him a handsome fee which financed him in making the move.
Tales of the Valiant will be on Demiplane which is basically DnDBeyond for a bunch of other systems. It was even created by several of the original creators of DnDBeyond.
@@dougpridgen9682 He is actually not at Demiplane anymore. He went to Fantasy Grounds. But the point remains that Demiplane is a great tool for anyone not playing D&D and wants a similar tool to DDB. Not sure what "woke" has to do with anything in this argument. Hasbro went full evil cooperation.

Same. I find that the new One D&D stuff is good, but I like the TOV stuff butter. Ultimately I am going to borrow from both systems.
This just came across my screen. Glad to see you back!

Monk is one I haven't really dug into yet. Don't have a monk in any of my games currently so I haven't played with it.

I can't wait to get my hands on the art book when it comes out!
@@GMToolbox I'm sorry? Art book? Keep us posted, I don't want to miss it.
Did you notice the dragon art showed age progression?
Welcome back! You're looking great!
Thank you. I am feeling great.

Have you seen the new TTRPG DC20??? If not, I suggest doing a review on it too...

That makes sense. I think I have been playing D&D so long I don't know if I can stop calling it spell level.
@@GMToolbox that's fair. I can definitely relate lol

I thought they named Spell Level Spell RINGS? Or did that not make it into the book?

I don't really get this comment as getting into ToV won't give a dime to WOTC
