Mollie Leazenby Brynn has said she has a strong background in ballet. She consistently has a high relevè on demi-pointe along with a great turnout. Which you really can’t have without proper training and strength.
I know Kalani is the leader, but I thought Brynn did an outstanding job. And being a ballet dancer myself, I would say Brynn stood out more with her technique and long lines.

But brynn is my all time fave, she was phenomenal this season. And people are right, this definitely wasn't nia's dance, especially compared to the other girls but she did it and she is an incredibly engaging dancer

+Christopher Mealer I remember in season 5 when Maddie was still there and Kalani wasn't given the leads in the groups. To the people who understood dance isn't all about the expressions, they saw that Kalani stood out, even when she wasn't in the front. It was only when Maddie left and she was given leads in groups that people started praising Kalani for her technique, musicality and performance, even though she had these abilities before. Same for Brynn. The show makes her seem she's "just a leg", or can only do lyrical, and has no emotions, but her musicality (along with Kalani) is stunning, her flexibility is mad , she is amazing at delicate emotion (not exaggerated) and her technique is stunning. She's very underrated. No, she's not got the IT factor in dance, but she does it because she loves it. Some people don't want to make it big or be a celebrity. Brynn wants to go to college and be a doctor. But the girl can dance, there's a reason she's a Club dancer, and she's got a bright future wherever she wants to go.
Christopher Mealer yeah but that doesn’t mean she’s bad she’s graceful and amazing to look at. She has wonderful technique and a true dancers body.
i'm sorry, but don't do a ballet routine if half of the girls aren't even that technically advanced in it and it's not actually a ballet routine.
It's good for them to challenge themselves. Typically competition studios don't excel in ballet numbers because ballet requires more time than they have and with all the group numbers and solid there just isn't the time to train as needed and focus on just ballet repertory.

i would still class this as lyrical. Once again there isnt enough technique and too many 'flairs' to makes it not strictly ballet
Those "flairs" is what makes it contemporary ballet rather than classical ballet. I don't understand how this wasn't technical enough for you, did you not see that the majority of the dance was compiled of ballet moves/technique?
This was a Contemporary Ballet routine

mockingariana2 do u even know what lyrical is? It's not just a slow dance-there can be fast dances that are lyrical. Just because it's not strictly all ballet moves doesn't mean it's not a ballet dance...there are different kinds of ballet
I wouldn't classify this as ballet, but it was great, but actually at the age of the girls most competitions request that the routines have to be executed on pointe, I don't think any of the girls are qualified for pointe yet but I'd love to see them (:
I'm sorry but I simply don't know what is wrong with you people!!? I thought Nia did fantastic! Yeah sure, It wasn't "perfect" and of course ballet isn't her cup of tea but I sure didn't think she was horrible in this dance. And TBH, I don't think Abby would have put her at front if she thought like you guys. Nia is slaying This season! Wasn't perfect but she is improving immensely!!! Go Nia!
I'm sorry but her technique was atrocious for a girl her age, she's a great dancer but ballet (although this wasn't even proper ballet) is very technique heavy and her lack of ti was very evident here.
Atrocious? What do you even know? Watching soloists from fancy studios on RUclips isn't a good reflection of the average dancer, so wtf do YOU know about what someone should/shouldn't know at their age? Fuck off. Nia was FINE in this dance, the only thing "wrong" is that she doesn't have a slender ballerina body. That's why she doesn't "look right" to so many people.

Nia is a great dancer and improving a lot. I always loved the way she performs and her technique is getting a bit better. But honestly brynn is way younger and her technique is ten times above nias. Its not really nias fault but also abbys and the bad training she gets. Nias technique is way behind for her age and it shows in a dance where technique is important. She didnt do well, sorry, but if you now about dance you'd have to agree.
Balett isnt her style. It showcases all her flaws but none of her strenght.
The fact that no one acknowledges Camryn and how *AMAZING* she danced in this dance proves that the show really did her dirty and twisted your views of the dancers..
These girls are so so talented, imagine being able to pull off an intricate number like this when they usually don't do ballet! Also everyone's talking about Kalani but Camryn really pulled my eyes for some reason, the way she held her arms was so graceful!

Constructive criticism is great but bashing nia on how she dances is plain rude. She even said that ballet is her weakest dance but look at her she went up and did it well. To the people that can't even dance (as myself) don't judge her dancing, it's really not your or my place.

this was choreographed by daniel jaber who’s a ballet and contemporary teacher here in melbourne australia, i’ve actually taken some of his classes before and his choreography is very different from any other. it’s definitely a mix of contemporary and ballet, but it’s moreso ballet than contemporary

Nia wasn't that bad she did all the steps. Why is everyone hating on her. Maybe ballet isn't her strongest style of dance but I don't see how she messed up. I wish people would stop picking on her.

Mostly people like to downplay anything Nia do (it is kind of like when no one want to mention that she was on Broadway and signed to Actor Equity and may be on other shows will soon or when they do acknowledge that she was on Broadway its alway mention it was an "off" Broadway show, like it makes a difference). on other side they favorite can't do no wrong, in this performance alone plently mistake was made by all of them (it wasn't real ballet in the first plays) but everyone want to only judge Nia for this performance knowing that Dance Moms dances water down choreography below the girls capability.

Ive seen Nia on point, just not on dance moms. They don't show what all the girls can really do for some reason on this show
i've seen a youtube video performance of Kendall on pointe in a group dance at a recital of the ALDC's in a piece from the Nutcracker, and she was pretty good at it.
When Kalani and Brynn did that split leap together omg gave me chills. They looked stunning

OMG! How did this turn from discussing a dance routine to flat out saying rude comments about these girls especially Nia. Nia had trained with Abby since 5 but from what I have seen on TV ballet was not the main focus. Of course Kalani and Brynn are going to be excellent in this dance because they were trained at their old studio in ballet. In all, I'm all about individuals expressing his or her opinion but let's be a little nice to each other and remember that these are young women that provide entertainment on a reality show; exposing flaws and all...
i really enjoyed this. it was nice to see them do contemporary - ballet for a change! especially kalani & brynn.
Im sorry but Nia looks ridiculous doing ballet. The choreographer really should not have put her near the front. I thought Brynn was absolutely stunning and gave the most unique performance and Kalani was amazing as always. Cameron and Kendall just floated in the middle for me ;/

i too have the same sort of build as Nia and have been dancing for 17 years now
when placed next to girls with small builds it does seem as tho i cant exsicute things as well as they can but its not always the case
nia also has quite flat feet and to me that stands out alot and makes her technique stand out in a more negative way
Nia also spent some of those years in a wheelchair and learning to walk again but I do agree with Isabel, Nia's frame is similar to mine (however my boobs are much smaller lol), when placed next to very petite dancers and just in general your movement seem less graceful no matter your evil of technique, its just easier on the eye to watch the small girls sadly but I don't think she performed poorly. Being 5'9" and with a muscular build like Nia's I often feel out of place when given dainty choreography

To everyone saying Nia was bad, well it's because Abby did not train to do ballet, and that including Kendall. In every dance Kendall shoulders are rolled forwards. The reason why Kalani and Brynn are so great in this is because they had proper training.

This was my favorite dance so far. Everyone seemed so in sync, the movements were beautiful, and the song was beautiful. Kudos to the girls and Abby but also the guy who choreographed it. I forget his name but Kudos to him for such a great job
I don't think nia was great in this routine but she sure is improving her ballet technique, brynn and kalani were amazing but cameron and Kendall weren't amazing but they weren't bad xx

Is it just me or does it annoy you that Camri (so if it's wrong) doesn't have the right skin toned tights. The others don't have right coloured tights but it's really noticeable on Camri

It's hard to find the right skin toned tights for darker skin tones.

I hate to say it but Brynn would have been a better fit for leader of this group number. Kalani did good but I don't think this type of dance is designed for the way she dances. Brynn is more flexible and more graceful than Kalani. Brynn has the fluidity that ballerinas tend to have. It would have been better if Brynn took the lead for this number.

You know it's kinda sad thinking about the old team compared to the new one. It's practically a new show now. It was about 7 little girls [including Kendall who came in s2] who loved to dance. Now it's just drama for 35 minutes. They barely focus on the dancing anymore. After Chloe left the show sorta just changed for me.

Am I the only one who thinks this dance was like amazing, I mean they're not the best at ballet, but the story and the blood on kalani and the movements, fluidity and emotion were great. Kalani and brynn we're amazing but so was camryn like beautiful. She has training you can tell. The others aren't as experienced in ballet
For those of you claiming that this 'isn't ballet' and they should be doing en pointe, the reason why they don't do en pointe is because that is one of judges MANY pet peeves. They see it all and you'd be surprised how many people go en pointe at a competition. And honestly, the majority of you guys commenting aren't even dance and probably couldn't tell the difference between a chane and a tour, so what do you know about ballet? So please, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't make a fool of yourself and comment pretending like you know.
