"That's like making a Spider-Man movie and using The Spot"
Man, can't say that aged well lol
Wonder if he known?
I almost snorted coffee out of my nose when he said that. And I don't even drink coffee!
Considering how awesome Across the Spiderverse was, I think it aged beautifully.
@alexanderfix3629 Not sure how when he was mocking the idea of The Spot being a main villian
@@WolfieGirlSheena I think it's the idea that they'd ever do that and they did. Then it turns out he comes a very major threat in that as well. Didn't age well might not be the best words but it still stands out.
“Thats like making a Spider-man movie and using The Spot”
Well that’s a funny thing to say
Rewatching this now and the comment about the Spot being a main villain at 3:00 is now true with Across the Spiderverse
Since no one else has mentioned it: The nurse who gets the Jedi mind trick at 8:31 is Sarah Rush, the same actress who played the flight controller on the original Battlestar Galactica series.
Well picked!
Eddie Benton plays Strange's girlfriend/patient. She later changed her name to Anne Marie Martin and was at one time married to author Michael Crichton. She was also on Sledge Hammer.
I knew I recognized her from somewhere. I loved _Sledge Hammer_ so much as a kid.
Yeah, I was just reading up on that. She co-wrote the screenplay to Twister with Crichton and also became a professional equestrian.
I had to watch this one again after hearing the bad news. RIP Jessica Walters.
If Marvel had the stones to make a movie with the Spot as a villain, I'd pay triple ticket price to see it.
This comment aged brilliantly.
*WHAT'S UP DANGER INTENSIFIES*
So, did you pay triple?
This comment aged like fine wine
"Hospitals are no place you get rest!"...Boy ole' Boy, that statement is so true!!
2:52 prophetic
Actually by 1970's science fiction, this is pretty good.
Another fun fact: the actor who played the TV Spider Man in the 70s, Nicholas Hammond, was one of the Von Trapp children in The Sound of Music.
He was also in the Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
2:54
...who's here after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
lol
2:51
Did Brandon predict the new spider verse movie?
fun fact: clark kent shows up in marvel all the time. in random places observing random events. clark kent is there and people have even called him: "clark" "C.K." "mr kent" and various other random things that indicate that yes it is clark "supmerman" kent

Any specific comics you can name that this has happened in?
Or could it be that this is B.S.
I love how you said, "It's like making a Spiderman movie and the villain being the Spot." That didn't age very well.
Of course Hell is located in outer space, haven't you seen Event Horizon? :)
Event horizon just confirms what Doom already told us.
+D8W2P4 Really, I think Lovecraft had that all done years ago.
hmmm...that would make one Hell of a movie....Doom + Lovecraft + Event Horizon + Dead Space = one kick ass science fiction horror shooter flick!
Just keep The Rock out of it....ah hell Ghost of Mars was more like Doom than Doom
darkservantofheaven I would pay ALL the money to see that.
I think Hell in this movie was supposed to be the Dark Dimension. If that's the case, then the Nameless One should've been Dormammu since the Dark Dimension is his domain.
hard to believe people thought the first avenger was campy when motorbike helmet captain america existed
+piplup2009 There's a MUCH worse Captain America series than those two films Reb Brown starred in...!
The Captain America serial from the 1940s was arguably one of the worst superhero adaptations of its time. Only the Batman serials are as bad!
Cap was reduced to being a wingless, shieldless district attorney who carried a gun and had a nice right hook (punch).
It was seriously low-budget and had next-to-nothing in common with the comic book!
Reb Brown's movies, the 1990 Cap Movie, and Chris Evans are infinitely closer to the comics than that 1940s crap was!
It was really sad because usually Hollywood waits until a property is decades-old before they start changing everything!
The 1940s Captain America is so bad that Marvel/Disney haven't bothered to maintain the copyright on it and it's bootlegged like hell all over the place. Very, very easy to find on RUclips and it's been available on VHS and DVD from various companies. That speaks to its quality!
It's ironic that Sony still has rights to the 1940s Batman serials. (Sony owns Columbia Pictures which produced the 1940s serials for Batman and Superman. WB only bothered to ever buy out the Superman serials. That's how bad the Batman serials were!) The last time I saw the Batman serials in a store was at Wal-Mart where they're available in a 4-disc DVD collection. They are so bad that I never even finished watching the first serial! By comparison, the Superman and Captain Marvel serials are classics and infinitely more watchable. How different things are today!
Wow. And I thought the 1998 Godzilla was the most unfaithful adaptation out there!
Ian Greene lol dude have you ever seen Dragon ball evolution? goll-lee!
I watched those back in 1990 or so. I remember I got bored because every episode seemed to end with a cliffhanger where Batman and Robin gets their asses kicked royally. Robin looked like a creepy body-building midget, too.
It wasn't campy but it was fluff
Brandon: "That's like making a Spider-Man movie and using The Spot!"
Across the Spider Verse: *sweats nervously*
Was that nurse changing the diaper of a doll (4:33)? *looks again* Wow. It is. I guess it shows what kind of budget they were on.
That doll later went on to star in American Sniper.
what is amazing is there was no mention of it.
It's not a nurse. It's a patient.
It's okay, nobody will notice.
I showed a clip from this movie to my dad and he actually said ‘Is this an Italian porno?’
No wonder Archer's mom treats him like crap. I guess that's part of the secret behind his success with the ladies. Magic!
I must say that I enjoy that, in this instance, the term "getting some strange" takes on a double entendre.
Damn,Jessica Walters was smoking back in the 70's.Btw. you didn't make one Archer reference, shame.
Also, phrasing?
Well endowed up top
Hahahahaha I look it up her voice was very familiar
Her?
Dr. Strange on a Dr. Who budget.
" I'm a doctor, not a magician !!"
Dr. McCoy.
10:56 LOL!!! Brandon uses "Moon Rocks" to get to the astral plane.
Branson's penchant for cult classics is all coming together now.
In addition to being the mom on Arrested Development, she was also the mom on (Jim Henson's) Dinosaurs as well as on Archer.
She was also the psycho in Play Misty for me.
@@mmm-mmmtotally smashable
Great review Brandon! That scene where the cat changes into Morgan actually was pretty creepy, nice effect. Also...Heck yeah! Godzilla is back! Woot woot!😎🎉
Oh man, Shout Factory is releasing Dr. Strange on DVD on November 1st! (No plans for Blu-Ray--but come on, it's a 1978 made-for-TV movie.)
Didn't know that ty.
heck, I would get the blu-ray for this!
I'm still on 1080p
Jessica Walter R.I.P. 1/31/41-3/24/21.play Misty for me. Great actor
I dig your reviews. I'm glad you found a creative outlet after working with Zombie Orpheus. I do wish you guys had finished Journey Quest, though, it would be nice to have a conclusion for the story.
Okay about the sedation thing
YOU CAN’T PUT A PATIENT TO SLEEP WITHOUT THEIR DAMN PERMISSION! you can lose your job and even get sued and a lot of other consequences
yeah and you can't force someone to do that without having them commited which she wasn't she had health issues when she slept and felt like she'll die if she sleeps again that's not a psych ward offense she went to a doctor I'd assume he'd if he took this seriously would want to a physical some tests then simply talk her into sleeping after confirming she's fine and giving observations
…you’re also going to prison as it’s illegal
As a stand alone movie, I agree it is slow to get to some magic stuff.
As a pilot for a series, it isn't bad.
The Hulk series pilot is also rather slow and we don't get a hulk out until well past mid film, if I remember correctly. But a pilot introduces characters, create the super hero and so on so the 45 minute episodes csn follow the simple formula: present a problem, put the main characters there, then try something and fail, but save the life of the main characters, then try something else and succed in stopping the villain.
"That's like making a Spider-Man movie and using The Spot"
Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse be like:
Nice Doctor Mordrid reference - few people seem to know of it and even less know it was originally written as a Dr. Strange film before their negotiations with Marvel fell through.
Mordrid & Strange...the two who are One!
Simply awesome. Love the ending you did with Godzilla. Good work, man.
RIP Jessica Walter
Brandon left the couch! things have now become serious!!!
I think he's going to review the first Godzilla movie!
Gojira 1954
+Andrew Gan either that or some kind of Kaiju movie yeah!
+Chad Thundercock however the footstep and roar is from the original Godzilla.
Although he did said he won't review the original Godzilla movie cause it's too ario
+Andrew Gan man you're savvy when it comes to that haha nice
+Chad Thundercock I mean it's too serious for him to make fun of.
Most likely the best humor he can get from this movie is black humor.
I know there is no way this T.V. movie could compare to the big budget MCU movie, but it's not without it's charm. It has sort of a creepy Night gallery vibe to it. I remember watching this as a kid and I liked it. But I like it now because of the nostalgia factor sort of why I like Hawk The Slayer and it's loveable cheese. Also Marvel borrowed from myth from the Fay Enchantress for their own Enchantress.
Doctor Strange looks fun! As far as medical dramas, those were HUGE during that period.
Doctor Mordrid originally was a script for a Dr strange movie, weirdly enough.
I hope they use the actor from that as the Dr. Strange of Toby McGuire's universe even if just in cameo.
This looked surprisingly watchable. Great review, as usual.
It isn't the worst thing I ever watched in the 1970s. I feel like if they had polished the script a bit and maybe spent a tiny bit more on effects it could have been great. They didn't though, and it isn't a very faithful representation of the original comics.
2:40 AND the mom from ARCHER, don't forget.
well that comment about the spot sure aged well
13:00 That's possible; Martin was good friends with Philip DeGuere, who wrote and directed the Dr. Strange pilot.
I remember seeing the doctor strange movie when I was younger the cat transformation scene was pretty cool
As always, great work my friend. I usually pride myself on knowing off beat movies like this...but I actually had no clue on this movie's existence. I feel bad as a nerd now lol :(
But I do know of Dr. Mordrid and the fighting skeletons though ;)
It's being released on DVD next month!
finally! my life will be complete once I get it.
I remember this one. Good cast here.
John Mills vs. Jessica Walter. That might be odd casting for a superhero film, but I can't help liking the idea.
This video didn't show up in my subscriptions, weird.
Anyway, good to see a new video!
same here i even have the alert set and still nothing
This 2:52 joke is now become ironic now that they use the spot and spiderverse it Brandon tenold predicted the future with this joke
1970s is creative. I like this film.
I hope this 70s Version of Dr Strange shows up in a episode of What If side by side with Lou Feregino / Bixby Hulk , Nic Cage Ghost Rider , Blade & Night Man .
Wasn't Night Man an Image comic?
@@shishoka night man was Malibu/Ultraverse ( marvel bought that company in 1994 )
Ah. Thanks. I'm a nerd but a nerd banished to the boonies. Most of my comic info is 5th or 6th hand at best.
@@shishoka it's cool I understand ☺️ I usually use sites like comic vine to help me fill out some info I wasn't aware of+ as a kid I read a lot of comics that were not all Marvel & DC. I enjoy image comics stuff + in the 90s they had so many animated series so those were the 1st things I saw before I read the comics and back issue diving in the early 2000s . 😃 Generally whenever I get into a set of characters I want to read up on as much lore & publisher history as I can get my hands on.
This movie looks kinda badass, I like how Morgan has Bewitched powers
How far we've come indeed. Even the movies that tried to show heroes in a more respectful light could never have amassed the budget or received the care and devotion that they get these days. And on both the mention of movies that never made it past VHS, and the teaser for a new Godzilla review next week: the recent news that we're finally getting a US release of Godzilla 1984 on blu-ray made my fanboy heart explode! September 13th can't get here soon enough!
"That'd be like making a Spider-man movie with The Spot ..."
Does anyone wanna tell him?
I remember hiding behind the TV when this originally came on. Ok--I was ten. But, I just love, love, love this show. I don't care how stupid and campy it is. I love it because I love it.
When Morgan is on Earth disguised as a human, she looks a lot like Regina from OUAT.
1:08: And don't forget Japanese Spider-Man!
CHANGE LEOPARDON!
2:55 well this didn't age well since beyond spider-verse now exists😂
Gotta be honest the normal way that she tried to kill the original sorcerer was surprisingly refreshing.
There is an alternate universe where the Doctor Strange TV series was picked up and became popular, and Anne-Marie Martin wasn't free to play Dori Doreau on Sledge Hammer. In that universe, the living envy the dead.
Wow, I was expecting this movie to be cheesier than it actually was. Also, that ending had me squealing like a little fan girl.
We won't hold it against you. Squeal like there is no tomorrow. Let your inner little fan girl run free... XDD
A spot in a Spider-Man movie actually exists actually might be cool
"Its like making a spider-man movie and using the spot"
Across the spider-verse: sup fam?
Peter Hooten played a creepy criminal in Inglorious Bastards.
It's a shame they couldn't get Vincent Price to play Dr. Strange.
Fuck yeah Vincent Price!!! Well he didn't play a kind of magician doctor Doctor Strange character in the TV movie of Scooby-Doo
I'm old enough to have seen this on tv when it was first run.
@18:10 ---looking at the costume, it seems that the insignia is from Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers). The Eye of Agamotto is not even shown here.
Thank you for the Dr. Who shout out.
I watched this way back. "Oh, WOW! They made a Dr Strange movie for real!?" - and I liked it. Considering the incredible low budget so no, can't setup a cheap chromakey and with low end/free 3d software do justice to Ditko in the background and paint over animated Crimson Bands of Cyttorak, etc. in a garage like we can do today they did real justice to the comic.
Like your channel, but this is actually a pretty good B movie. Haven't subjected myself to the current movie and it's modern Political Correctness, but I liked this old one.
They’re illusions, Michael.
The cat shifting into Morgan was pretty creepy. The shoddy 70’s quality actually adds to it.
Apparently the Bluth mobile airline stairs makes an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" as well as a Banana Stand showing up in the online game "Avengers Academy" with the caption "There's always money in the banana stand", so this wasn't the last of the "Arrested Development"/Marvel connections.
2:53 HA!
If I'm assuming correctly, you'll FINALLY be doing another Godzilla movie next time? Awesomeness! Can't wait!
I played this going to sleep last night, and wake up to hear Jessica Walters died in her sleep. 😩😭
Speaking of live-action Marvel shows, would you ever consider doing a comparison between the American live-action Spider Man show and it's Japanese tokusatsu counterpart?
There is no comparison. The live action American Spiderman sucked huge donkey dick.
Supidaman needs a re-release, the guy’s tag is “I’m the emissary from Hell” and he’s got a giant mech!
Now how would a Japanese Dr. Strange series will look like? My guess is that it will be a mix of this movie and Kamen Rider Wizard (long before the latter is even a thing).
“Quit staring at people, you creepy bitch!” I lost it at that line!
I think it would have worked better if, instead of the Not Nameless One, Morgan worked for Dormammu (with hints of Baron Mordo here and there).
1) Because Dormammu is Clea's uncle and 2) Dormammu is one of the more well known Dr. Strange villains and one of the most powerful Marvel baddies. Or, if not Dormammu, his sister Umar who is Clea's mother.
Also, it's weird you didn't mention the changes made to Strange's origin. In the comics, Strange wasn't a psychiatrist, he was a too-proud surgeon who lost control of his hands due to an accident and was taken in by the Ancient One where he, not only gained control of his hands once again, but he earned redemption. I'm also surprised you didn't mention the lack of the Ancient One who is a VERY important character in Doctor Strange lore.
Arm the music sounds more like Goblin than Jerry Goldsmith- which means now I want to see Dario Argento's Doctor Strange.
I mean, classic Argento, not recent Argento ....
Loved this as a kid...!
Definite potential on this one; whoever canceled it was a king Sushi-slopper!
2:54
That aged well lmao
Fun fact, I actually knew a Doctor named Steven Strange who was a G.P. in my old hometown. Not the same guy as the superhero though.
The Nameless One wanted to ask Doctor Strange what can change the nature of a man.
I'd say a miserable bunch a secrets:)
Ooh, another Godzilla review. I can't wait to see which one it is. Godzilla Vs The Smog Monster maybe?
FINALLY I CHILD IS GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER VIDEO! THANK YOU
"okay, i deserve that one, I'm soarry" hehe he said soarry. I love Canadian humor
I'm sure Shout Factory will eventually do something with this. If not for the theatrical release of the new movie, maybe closer to the blu ray release.
Huge props from this Spidey-fan for the Spot riff 🤘😅
AAAHH!!! Didju see the "baby" in the opening hospital scene?!
I love the old Spiderman show. I saw it when I was little on reruns. It was cool!
I remember when this came out; it was disappointing since so many TV shows had already done great work with occult and magic themed episodes and done them better. Not to mention how un-Dr. Strange his costume looked when battling. But even so we thought it was good enough that we assumed a second TV movie would be made or that Strange would show up in Hulk or Spider-Man. What an awesome Halloween episode that would've been. We also were excited that two of the core Defenders now were live-action.
You know, I have to give it to this movie, deciding to be more atmospheric rather than action-packed is a pretty bold move even if such is not always to its advantage. And it looks like we got two Quatermass references in here, with 1979 Quatermass himself John Mills as the elder sorcerer and the Nameless One kinda bearing uncanny resemblance to Hob the Devil manifestation from Hammer's QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (1967). Now we've gotta wait for the Benedict Cumberpatch version in four months and hope they REALLY get it right... oh yeah, and the next Godzilla movie to be reviewed on this channel. Oh yeah, and apparently this one will be coming out in a new release from Shout! Factory, here's the link:
www.shoutfactory.com/film/action-adventure/dr-strange
A Spiderman movie starring the Spot huh? Eh, couldn't be any worse than with they did with Rhino.....or more didn't do XD
What Spider-Man movie with the Rhino? Shhhhhhhh, I'm still in denial....
+Lachlan Taylor Yeah Infact He Was In The 90s Animated Series
13:28 The movie was intended to be viewed on CRT televisions which were naturally brighter than the computer screen you most likely watched on. If you watched a copy on RUclips or other streaming video site then the lossy compression applied to the video has undoubtedly removed any distinction between the character's clothes and the low lighted background. You aren't wrong though, it wasn't a good choice.
That was the thing that threw me off was how that guy knew doctor strange father. And that this one wasn't a brain surgeon but a shrink. But back to the part where he knew his father because in the comics doctor strange doctor strange becomes a father but doesn't know that he is one and the shocker is that the son name is Steven strange jr 🤔 but wasn't a doctor. But than the part with clea won't make any sense at all. One more thing I forgot to mention that this one looks like the one from the comics.
Damn right he's back! 2019 presents: Godzilla, King of the Monsters
Can't wait for his next review!
Freeze it at 1:45.
No offense, but if I opened the curtains late at night and saw that face glaring at me through my window, I'd be scared shitless.
I remember when it aired I was so hype waiting for it to come on and enjoying it good cast
