Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has denied that he has applied for the role of the team’s head coach.
The former skipper is being considered as the front-runner for the position ever since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that it will not be extending the contract of head coach Mickey Arthur.
“I did not apply for the coaching role of the national team,” he said in a press conference in Lahore on Wednesday. “These are all rumours.”
The former batsman cleared that he will step down as a member of the cricket committee if he does apply for the position.
Misbah, who is currently serving as the commandant in the ongoing fitness camp, said that the players will only get picked on the basis of their form and fitness, adding “anyone can get selected in the team if their form and fitness is at par”.
“We are trying our best to make our players reach exemplary levels of fitness,” he said, adding that they are also working on a diet plan for the players as well.
He went on to say that the aim of the training camp is to prepare the players that will be selected by the selection committee.
Speaking on the emerging players’ camp, Misbah said that a few pacers will join from August 22 as the Men in Green look to replace Mohammad Amir after he announced his retirement from the longest format of the game.
“Mohammad Hasnain could not get picked in the emerging players’ camp due to his commitment with the Caribbean Premier League,” he added.
Misbah also discussed the future of captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, saying that one captain might be used across all three formats but did add that the PCB has the power to replace the skipper.
The former skipper said that the players should be ready to face criticism along the way and accept it just like they accept the accolades.

Tanver is wrong here about that Misbah have no coaching experience. The experience he have as a batsman and captain for 8 years is much bigger than any level 3 or level 4 garbage courses and much more practical than any experience.Also having the selector and coach same will solve many issues which were there because of Inzi and Micky egos and parchi selection

I think Misbah may not be an aggressive batsman in his days but he would be a very good coach. Reason is that he is cool minded, will be good strategist due to his large experience. He knows all the current domestic players and still plays domestic cricket. In cricket coach role is minimum and captain’s role is much more important. For him being a nice guy unlike Mickey or Miandad of past and compared to mean Inzi means much more harmony amongst the players and less fighting and more power to captain. I think he is more capable as coach than batsman.

My house is rite in front of Saeed Anwar's house. I meet him on an almost daily basis when he is not travelling. He has completely devoted himself to Islamic preaching. I can assure you he has no interest in being involved in cricket affairs.

Misbah will be the great edition as a coach and selector with strong nerves. He performed in the most critical time of Pakistan cricket even though I was not a big fan of his style but he was the leader stuff by knowing how to get success with out having star players. Hope good for Misbah and Pakistan cricket.

Absolutely spot on. Why only Misbah is being discussed? A good cricketer does not mean a good coach. Why PCB is ignoring Rashid Latif, Shoaib Akhtar, Younus Khan? And even Mohammad Yosuf. But whether captaincy or coaching, Misbah plays the politics well and he is YES SIR YES SIR man of PCB. Afridi left captaincy because of the fixers but Misbah fits well in everything and prefers personal advantages on moral high ground!!!!
