History really is cyclical in nature if you pay attention to the big picture. If you look into "The Ten Points of Fascism" one could argue we've basically been one, to greater and lesser degrees, many times in the past. It's just never been this blatant. The thing is that Trump has no clear ideology. He just does and says whatever he thinks will keep him in power and make a profit. The more relevant (and troubling) political theory is what's known as "inverted totalitarianism". It's hard to even make an argument that that isn't what's happening if you have any critical thinking ability.

To this day, no song has the kind of energy to get me moving like that one. I know alot of people dont like Billy's vocals, but I fell in love with his singing on the album and I love the harder sounding SP songs like "F*ck you" and "Zero" from infinite sadness. I enjoyed Zeitgeist's more rock sound and I think it's a very strong entry in their catalogue.

Biggest problem with this album is the vocals. The feeling and passion is all but drained, instead he seems more focused on hitting the right notes, which has never been his strong suit. And then layering 30 tracks of himself doing oohs and aahs. Musically, this is a pretty outstanding set of songs, there's something good buried in there. I don't know why Billy had to do all the guitar parts, cos James was definitely capable. D'arcy was capable too; however, she clearly had the least experience in the group, so it was understandable for Billy to do the bass seeing as it wouldn't only take him 1 or a few takes as opposed to several takes. Billy is quite a perfectionist though, so I think he just felt more comfortable with doing all the things he was capable of by himself.

i think its a great great rock album. I don't really listen to much of the old pumpkins anymore. i'm curious what 2017 will bring with the solo record and a new pumpkins album i'm sure and maybe with the past members.

The very soft-voiced singing style really doesn't match the idea of a "Gut-punch" as described.
I dig that singing style, but it rarely works for the heavier songs. Cause it's sounds pretty, but has no energy. Billy seems to sing like that all the time now, which is abit silly. He should do whatever fits the song.

+Northernmight I don't think he means to do it. I think at some point down the road, he totally fucked his voice and he no longer has the ability to sing like he used to.

+Bryce Giordano i think you're partially correct, in saying that he's not TRYING to do that. I believe that as he aged, his voice just started to sound like that. you can hear the same deal happen to other artists that have been playing for around as long, such as Trent Reznor.

+Northernmight I like it it has a more passive aggressive edge rather than "you know i am really angry i think i might scream and yell" But yeah mixing it up is all good.

gish - adore they were solid, no mistakes. machina 1 is a fantastic album but it is overproduced in some songs but machina 2 on the the other hand is even better, if you don't like that you have broken ears, some of their most beautiful songs are on there :) teargarden takes some getting used to if you dont like synths much (like me) but you'll soon see through it. Oceania's songs so far sound mellon collie esque to me, cant wait :D

have you never heard of the clasp system. it interlocks tape and pro tools so you get the sonic quality of tape and the editing advantages of pro tools.

Pumpkins rebooted with Jimmy worked. It was still relevant. Zeitgeist was like they'd never been away in many ways. I've heard the new SP tunes seen some live stuff, its not pulling up any trees its simply okay, but its The Billy Corgan Band now. Period. I'd've had far more respect for him if he'd dropped the SP name. But Billy C doesn't shift units or sell concert tickets. Guess you can't blame him. Don't make it right though. For me Zeitgeist will always be the SP swansong.

I really do love this record and feel like it was really judged much too harshly. It was never meant to be another grand magnum opus but it is a solid heavy modern rock album and features some of Jimmys absolute best drumming. If they cut a couple tracks and gave this a remix it would be fantastic and standout in their catalog
