I fully agree with the assessment of the visual assault of Carnival Splendor. Thankfully the P&O ships have class and style.

Love your description of the Carnival decor 😂 I’ve been on 2 cruises so far, Carnival Spirit and Pacific Adventure. Definitely preferred our Carnival experience. Even my 12 year old doesn’t want to go back on P&O.

      😆 it's definitely 'unique' decor!
Carnival offer a really fantastic cruise experience, I had a lot of fun on my cruise earlier this year. Hopefully one day we get some of the newer Carnival ships based in Australia with their more contemporary and less offensive design choices haha.

Exactly. I think too much emphasis/criticism is put on Joe Farcas' styling. I never minded the design and my first cruise ever was on Legend. I was in awe walking into the atrium and seeing that styling. I knew at that point I would be in for something special. Newer cruise ships (and those that have been refurbished) have bland styling. Whilst not bad, I feel as though I'm sitting in any kind of RSL or Leagues club.

Hmm I actually had it in my list of categories to compare and am not sure what happened. I think I thought I covered it mostly in the adults section, discussing the themed parties and night club. On the entertainment front as a whole, both Carnival and P&O offer the same sorts of things - production shows and comedians, P&O has the extra-charge Black Circus as well. It's a bit of a wash.

Thank you for the comparison video Adrian, it is well known that Princess cabins are generally on the smallish size compared to other cruise lines, 3 ex Princess ships albeit revamped in the public areas for our P & O downunder seasons, we don’t get much say in it, do we?
Just finished a transpacific 30day on the Luminosa, plus did a 7 day island back in March to check it out.
Like the ship very much, very easy to get around, decks 2 & 3 + 9 & 10 are your food and entertainment, everything else is cabins, apart from the two main upper decks 11+12. Great for sightseeing Alaska but as Adrian said it didn’t get all its FUNship accoutrements before having to sail downunder last year.
Just about to go on Pacific Adventure to Tasmania in December, we will be able to compare better then.
I would suggest that if you want family fun ship rock walls, waterslides etc., during the summer, take the Carnival Splendor out of Sydney. Luminosa attached to Brisbane is really not geared up to lots of water activities. Caters more to the empty nesters or DINK’s on a budget.

Just got off carnival splendour (5 nights Tassie) first things we said what is with pink zebra print lol. 2nd time on a carnival cruise and won't be back on that line again. Cost cutting and the buffet food choices were bad to what we have experienced on all the other lines. I have a love/hate relationship with both these lines. P&O was my first ever cruise line (Pacific Jewel in 2010), and I was hooked on them - they were the best by a mile.
Tried Carnival (Carnival Legend) during the school holidays and it was without a doubt the worst cruise I have ever been on - due to my fellow passengers and their unruly kids, rather than the line. Then Went on Carnival Splendour 12 months ago (5 days to Tassie) and had the best cruise ever.
Then Pacific Adventure in July this year and was underwhelmed by the P&O experience, the constant upsell and the cost cutting compared to the "old days".
It a tough call for me to pick a favourite at the moment.

your video is 100% spot on, i love the pacific adventure for its style and stately look. The biggest let down on pacific adventure was the bland food, although i loved there battered fish.Carnival splendor won me over because of the great food it offered and i have 3 more cruises booked on her for the next 14 months, as in entertainment, they both did a great job at that. I would sail on the pacific adventure again for sure, they both have good and bad points, and it was only a small point for me that carnival won it for me and that was the food offerings. sometimes i travel solo and have managed to snare on carnival a inside cabin that is actually a outside cabin with two portholes for a discounted price for the next 3 cruises. i cant wait to see what other peoples comments are, it is a interesting topic.

+1 for Carnival; Splendor sails from OTP which is easily accessible by train or tram, rather than some random, out-of-the-way port near Balmain where you'd find Explorer or Adventure. There's no public transport to White Bay.
More free dining options onboard Splendor, including Ol' Fashioned BBQ and Marsala Tiger (Indian) on Splendor which you didn't mention, easily makes Carnival the choice for me in terms of complimentary dining. P&O just nickel and dime even for ice cream. I wouldn't mind so much if P&O's paid dining options were simply a cover-charge but they're all a la carte pricing. Sheesh... You can't even get a free slice of pizza on P&O.

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  9 месяцев назад

Adventure switches between OPT and WB depending on the schedule, so that's not a clear cut difference. I definitely agree that WB is a terrible location to get to for people wanting to utilise public transport - it's awful.
The nickel and dime effect on P&O is something I can't get over either. It really detracts from the overall cruise experience for me.

P&O I thought the food was better but more limited, hard to beat free pizza and unlimited icecream. I do feel P&O nickle and dime you more even for activities. Carnival just tries to get you to buy more things.

@TheCruiseandTravelGuy recent Princess Cruise on a Royal class was disappointing. The ship was reasonably full. There were no quiet areas.
The International Cafe next to the Piazza was deadening. Kiddy games for adults, dance classes or substandard artists with elevated sou b d levels to hide their talent. Or lack thereof.
The quiet area had kids in the pool and was crowded. A Domestic coffee machine at a bar that didn't open until 10am.
In the event g a piano played sports on huge screens, next to a casino.
Even the bar next to the steak house had lectures about wellness and acupuncture.
The nickel and dime approach is now across the fleet. Charges for delivery to the cabin, a reduced menu, food on formal.nights no different to other nights. After 20+ on Princess and another 30+ on other lines, I can see the strategy. Get more drinkers on board and party.
      Carnival or P&O isn't it?

Hey Brad. I can do! I'll add it to the list. My main point to note re Carnival V Princess is that Princess is much more adult friendly. More mature ambience, a little bit more lux and the cruise line offers pretty good value with its Princess Plus package that includes drinks and internet. Families may enjoy Carnival a little more on the whole, much more casual vibe onboard.

As you know we're looking at Carnival after our poor experience with P&O. The Adventure was lovely, and the crew delightful, plus the food in the included restaurants was delicious, we didn't visit The Pantry, the overall product was lacking, with little do to during the day on sea days, and very few inclusions making the cost cutting obvious. I feel it's worth a little extra (2 x adults balcony cabin) to sail on Carnival for more food inclusions, and more day time activities on sea days based on reviews who travelled on Splendor around the same time we cruised. I spent most of time in my cabin on my most recent cruise, 16 Oct - 20 Oct, due to the lack of anything to do onboard. I would have liked to see you have a 6th category covering accessibility, and from what I can see P&O wins here with more accessible cabins over more cabin categories, based purely on our first hand Adventure experience and looking at Splendor deck plans.

Its a hard one to compare, for me if you have kids with you the Carnival works better, it's what is does best. For me P&O works better for couples. I recently went on the P&O 3 night comedy cruise (Oct-23) as a couple, I got a mini suite for only 30% more then balcony, which to me was worth it. On board, on the first evening evening also got offered entry to Byron Bay for $30pppd. You could pick day 2-3 or just day 3. It was well worth it. On another point I aslo don't like the garish decoration on Italian ships ( i have been on Costa amd MSC before) but I suppose thats personal taste.
