People seem to have a misunderstanding of what happened. This wasn't a case of Yan or his team not knowing the rules. Aljo was on one knee, (meaning it was illegal to kick his face), but Aljo would occasionally raise the grounded knee into more of a squatted position which technically means he was a "standing" fighter and head kicks WERE legal momentarily. He would switch between the two on and off, but from Yan's angle, he couldn't fully see when Aljo's knee was grounded or raised. So he asked his corner (who had a better angle) to say when aljo was "Knee-able". One person in Aljo's corner was saying "Just punch!" Because he didn't want to risk it. Another person in the corner was trying to time it when Aljo was standing. Unfortunately, Yan listened to the wrong person.
As thin and weak our bones are compared to other animals it's still amazing how strong our skulls are and how this guy can still use language with a hit to the brain like that.
Why would he even have to ask his corner? Even the most casual ifc fan knows you can't knee a grounded opponent in the face. This is his job. He should learn the rules.
Its crazy how much of a downfall yan has been going threw ever since that disqualification against aljo and then losing a close fight against sean i reallt hope yan can come back cause it is crazy to think yan was undefeated until the dq
wait is sean back on the rogan podcast or am I tripping? At the end he mentioned that petr lost a close to fight to him already, did sean already hit up rogan after the fight and i missed it?
Im not exactly sure the rules and in hate dirty fighting, or competing in an unfair way in any sport. But if you really look very closely, Aljo has his hands up high and his left knee is no where near the mat. So if his right knee elevates off the mat, and for a split second he's not kneeling on the mat but he's technically crouching down. In that case it becomes a legal knee...or is that not true? I wish I could see from the other angle but I really think Aljo has both knees and both hands off the mat
They need to either make them legal all the way around or ban them again. Or better yet change the definition of a downed opponent from how every many points of contact, or one hand down, or one knee down, or whatever they come up with on the fly to the fighter being their stomach, back or side. One or both knees and hands down = Legal Laid on the ground in any way = Illegal Simple
It's dependent upon the referee. Jones put Smith's lights out and the fight continued. The next event after this one had a similar situation but the strike looked much worse. Herb Dean stopped that fight and allowed the judges to decide, the guy who threw the illegal strike won. The fight should have ended with a DQ loss for Yan where he loses the belt but Aljo shouldn't have been awarded the title. Yan losing the rematch makes it irrelevant but it was still mistake to do it this way.

Unfortunate for Yan yes there was a rematch but his team couldn't be in his corner and then no matter what you think about the sugar fight in the end he did lose, what a sad spot to be in for Yan.
Personally I feel if you have time to look over and ask your corner if I can knee him in the face... and get the response before kneeing him in the face. He was incapacitated to the point where that knee was not necessary regardless of legalities . A short right hand would have done it
I could be wrong here but if petr actually would’ve kicked there would he not be disqualified? because the coach said kick and petr kneed him… i don’t know the rules on that
Bro, if you don’t know what is and isn’t illegal in fighting, you shouldn’t be fighting. It’s the simple. And your corner is the one you should be asking permission from. It’s the judges. Your corner doesn’t decide who wins the fight
And that’s why the UFC should not be called the UFC. It should be called MMA championship or MMA league. But you can’t call UFC UFC if it’s not the ultimate fight. So many rules not even a good sport punch, counting or whatever their points system is. It should be anything besides biting, poking as long as you’re not going out of your way to poke in eyeball out or bottom and Noel fight should end unless someone to submitsor gets knocked out.
Yan should of also known basic regulations and rules of the ufc before he even steps in there, he shouldn’t even have to ask his corner if he can knee a downed opponent
I love ufc but losing champ to DQ or even split D is bogus and opens/leads to media/PR focused bullshit. As Dana says, you should have to TAKE it from the champ
lmao you must be blind as yan took considerably more damage the entire fight. All yan did was fail submission attempts again and again as sugar successfully defended them all and landed more critical strikes lol.
Aljo gets a lot of hate but Yan has been overrated imo. He’s good but never forget he beat aging Fabre and then Aldo to win the vacant belt. I personally think he’s too small for BW. He dealt with Dodson and Rivera pretty well. I think he should be a Flyweight. You guys will see when he fights Merab how overpowered he looks.
But .. maybe the guy that said Yes .. was responding to the guy that said Just Punch .. just throwing that out there .. I def don’t agree with the knee.
It's not the corners fault that he made it to being champion without knowing the rules enough such as not being allowed to knee the face a downed opponent. Every beer belly that goes to these things knows that but the champ didn't. That's on him.

That was a solid knee lmao. I haven't seen this in a while but people were acting like that shit was light.
That 1 knee literally ruined his carreer.
Unfortunate for Yan yes there was a rematch but his team couldn't be in his corner and then no matter what you think about the sugar fight in the end he did lose, what a sad spot to be in for Yan.
25 of 26 independent judges scored for Yan, 7 of them scored 30-27. It was clear victory.
“Sweep the leg”
It wasn't for the belt. It was for the fans.
Personally I feel if you have time to look over and ask your corner if I can knee him in the face... and get the response before kneeing him in the face. He was incapacitated to the point where that knee was not necessary regardless of legalities . A short right hand would have done it
Nothing he did was illegal, tho
I could be wrong here but if petr actually would’ve kicked there would he not be disqualified? because the coach said kick and petr kneed him… i don’t know the rules on that
I swear, Joe has defended Aljo like his job depends on it. Aljo did get kneed, but he acted way more than sas necessary to gain the title. Perio5
Kick not knee which is Legal on a downed opponent
Yan beat O'Malley every round, Yan got robbed.
Sean did not deserve the win vs Yan. Neither did Aljo in the rematch.
DC really wants people to know that he's friends with khabib. He seems to love khabib so much.
NHB rules and united rules are vastly different
Yan should of also known basic regulations and rules of the ufc before he even steps in there, he shouldn’t even have to ask his corner if he can knee a downed opponent
Yan has never been the same since this fight. He was putting it on Sterling
If that was legal 95% of all wrestler and grapplers or better yet most grapplers and bjj guys would not be winning fights
You have to know the rules to be a pro. No excuse. Coach did screw him with instruction but the rules of the event have to be in YOUR head.
Guys were saying Aljamain took a dive?????
Still one of my favorite fighters
I love ufc but losing champ to DQ or even split D is bogus and opens/leads to media/PR focused bullshit. As Dana says, you should have to TAKE it from the champ
Honestly they need to allow this kind of knee because wrestling is becoming too OP in the UFC.
How do you not know the rules as a fighter? Thats crazy..
Sean talking like he didn’t get beat tf up 😂
How it was a close fight lmao
@@AndrewTheViet Petr won
lmao you must be blind as yan took considerably more damage the entire fight. All yan did was fail submission attempts again and again as sugar successfully defended them all and landed more critical strikes lol.
@@clashclans-on4kp maybe in your alternate delusional reality lol
You should know the rules at that level of sports
Aljo gets a lot of hate but Yan has been overrated imo. He’s good but never forget he beat aging Fabre and then Aldo to win the vacant belt. I personally think he’s too small for BW. He dealt with Dodson and Rivera pretty well. I think he should be a Flyweight. You guys will see when he fights Merab how overpowered he looks.
He didn’t lose any of those fights is why he said the ufc didn’t have his back
But .. maybe the guy that said Yes .. was responding to the guy that said Just Punch .. just throwing that out there .. I def don’t agree with the knee.
It's not the corners fault that he made it to being champion without knowing the rules enough such as not being allowed to knee the face a downed opponent. Every beer belly that goes to these things knows that but the champ didn't. That's on him.
