I agree and disagree. I agree because battle rap is about displaying your skills against another battle rapper, but i disagree because there are many battle rappers who have skills in a battle, but are not as good as putting out an album that all fans in hiphop would like and not just one fanbase. Just like there are rappers who can put out a classic album but suck at battling. I dont agree with most the music today, but mostly the young kats in every generation decides whats hot. The 90s, my era was the last era to have originality in abundance, as well as balance, but my era was also the first era from the fans and rappers who embraced the ignorant side that helped make room for the garbage for the most part today with a few exception. Battle rapping is a skill, but its still limited to all the other factors in hiphop that require skill, as well for and ear to music.
It’s hilarious how interviewers hesitate and play with balls of yarn while asking questions 🤣 “ was it the rock n roll hall of fame?” 🤔 …… Stop! You know wtf it was 🤣🤣🤣
he was making sure he got the name of the event correct. And Interviewers do that to give the guest a chance to respond/confirm for the folks who DONT know. No different than asking Eminem “so marshall mathers LP sells millions of records, right?” It’s a setup for the next question. Just as he did here. Just like u can tell when someone’s gonna end a compliment with a “but……” the compliment is a SETUP, the “but….” Is the topic
Canibus had the opportunity to be big, he just couldn’t come up with hit records. Being a lyricist is important, but you also gotta able to take those lyrics and make good songs…
It’s a similar thing to the Jay Electronica thing, his mangum opus came out before his album did and because of that everyone expected him to have a Second Round KO on every track.
That was an opportunity for those gatekeepers to intervene and market this man. He was blackballed and ostracized by radio, DJ and label execs. Most artists don't make a hit record on their own. They have assistance

I never doubted canibis skills as a rapper, and there are a few songs of his that i liked, but even after 2nd round k.o he never took away ll legendary status. I could never disrespect the elders that came before me, that was as much as part of my childhood as my adult years. When everyone was saying ll became soft he was still producing hits. My problem with canibus and im pretty sure his fanbase will disagree, is that i could never really get into him to the point i would buy his albums, because he lacked good production, and is rapsy voice is something that i could listen to all the time. I like gritty styles like canibus, dmx, onyx, and so forth, but im not one of those hiphop fans thats has a particular preference in hiphop but tend to like them all, minus majority of mainstream hiphop today. You can say all the rappers are legends, but only to a limited fanbase, but for the most part legends in general are measured from longevity, skills, production for all different fans hiphop, and many other factors. When hiphop first started, for the most part the styles enticed all typed of fans, and wasnt just limited to one type of style. As hiphop started to evolve fans in hiphop startrd to become more divided from dance, lyrical, hardcore, conscious etc. I remember even, bukshot from duckdown whos real respected in the underground said at one time hiphop was everything, fans made hiphop a division.
U're right about him not having good production. Bc that 1st album was trash. His biggest highlight was his beef wt Cool J. Talk about a waste of talent
LL was already a cultural icon at that point, no one was gonna take that away from him...but Bis did catch a body. As for his production, yeah...he's not the best beat picker. Stoupe (Jedi Mind Tricks) did the smart thing, Canibus sent him all the vocals...then he crafted the beats to them. I remember Bis before he dropped Can-I-Bus, and I get that maybe RZA should've produced him...but I always liked that album. Aside from Rip Rock, I'll bump all them tracks...never understood the hate
@@lyricsanonymous9036 rtj was not a good album. Specifically, the beats as u mentioned that stoupe made for canibus' vocals didn't match and some of them were literally off beat. Not to mention the false advertising before it dropped. The album cover was probably the best thing about it. I liked no return tho
I liked Canibus, talentwise in his short prime, he was a respected lyricist but he self sabotaged his career. He burned many bridges with other artists. He started out good in 97 when he was featured on a few underground tracks and became known for multisyllabic rap even though Big Pun, Chino XL, G Rap, and the entire Nexx Level/Rockboy Click had already made the style popular. In the following year, he became known for starting a weird beef with LL Cool J over his ‘microphone’ arm tattoo. Great diss, but lost the war to LL because he ironically gave LL's career a boost while simultaneously f-ing his own up. His first album “Can-I-Bus” was panned by the critics. The album was a flop. Not acknowledging his own short-comings, he blamed Wyclef (who produced the album) for the failure. Without Wyclef, he released his second album two years later. It was a failure too. He then started an even weirder feud with Eminem by pretending to play the character of “Stan” (created by Eminem) in his own sequel “You Didn’t Care”. He even created his own all-white group called “C4” in a strange homage to Eminem’s all-black group “D12” who featured in his third album “C! True Hollywood Stories”. After 9/11 he released the horridly racist and Islamophobic track “Draft Me” in which he rapped “Draft me, I wanna fight for my country, jump in a Humvee and murder those monkeys”. He later signed up with the US Army stating “I enlisted because I wanted to get away from the music”. Two years later and without seeing any action, he was discharged for smoking marijuana. This was quite ironic since Canibus wanted to leave Hip-Hop to smoke Arabs but returned for smoking cannabis only to get bodied by an Arab-American… …The Arab-American I’m referring to was Dizaster to whom Canibus shamefully lost his rap battle with after he pulled out a notepad of pre-written lyrics (even though it was supposed to be a freestyle). He also, at every opportunity whipped out old lines from old songs including the now tired “mic on my arm” lyric like some kind of bad joke… And then over the years that followed, he completely destroyed any credibility and popularity he once had. Currently Canibus is about as relevant as the internet dial-up tone that played on the intro to his début album.
Islamaphobic? Lmao do you need Quran verses after chapter 2 when Allah abrogated every peaceful verse to give sex and slaves and manipulation to Muhammad. Please ask for chapter and verse. You’ll get context Don’t say something is phobic if you understand nothing about it or don’t know about it
The term “sex slave” refers to what occurs today in terms of human trafficking, and this can be considered strictly prohibited in the Qur’an: “Do not compel your [slave] maidens to prostitution” (Q 24:33). Sex slavery is significantly different than concubinage, which is a stable interpersonal relationship between a man and a woman. Some call this a “slave wife,” who however does not have the same legal rights as a wife. The institution of slavery and concubinage existed throughout the world at the time of the Qur’anic revelation, and was not abolished anywhere until the modern period of history. Although there is no explicit prohibition of slavery in the Qur’an, there are certainly a multitude of verses that call to the emancipation of slaves. Indeed, the Prophet Muhammad and the early Muslims sought converts from the slave class, and worked to free them from bondage. This fits with the Qur’an’s general emphasis on aiding the meek and dispossessed segments of society, which included the poor, weak, indebted, orphans, female infants, women, and slaves. There is even a Qur’anic verse that says righteousness (al-birr) is not about turning your face in prayer to a certain direction, but rather-among other good deeds-to free slaves: Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west [in prayer], but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in God, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves… (Q 2:177)
Real hip hop people don't take that battle seriously. The format and way they spit is just unrealistic. No beat. No time limits. Name on Dizaster hit song??
@@Boseman7 it’s not about hit songs. It’s the genre that he’s good at. Battle rap is a lot more complex than taking the time out in a studio to put a song together. Snoop Dogg is a west coast legend but will get KILLED in a battle. Battle rappers are a different breed and require a lot more intricate skills with their pen game.
Can-i-Bus is speaking the truth! We see some semblance of that with the versus, but still can't get to that with today's beefs in Hip Hop. Fake rappers are too scared they might get their careers ruined. But imagine if a Kendrick Lamar hit the Stage against a Lupe. It would be a versus for the ages. This would be a cool ass remedy to squash beefs that crop up. At the end of the day, both artists get paid.

The arrogance you mention stems from cool js diva ass catching feelings over à line that wasn't offensive at all, and the Rhyme was overseen by Redman. Bis got blackballed because of fear of his power in the industry

It's interesting how this parallels battle rap. In that same era if you lost bad as a battle rapper that was likely it for your career. Now, niggas can go on a losing streak and still be relevant and/or getting to the 💰
I agree and disagree.

Canibus is underrated and dope
Remember that's your opinion
Bro this is Hiphop elder or not, if you diss someone expect to get it back
@@lyricsanonymous9036 rtj was not a good album.
This was quite ironic since Canibus wanted to leave Hip-Hop to smoke Arabs but returned for smoking cannabis only to get bodied by an Arab-American…
…The Arab-American I’m referring to was Dizaster to whom Canibus shamefully lost his rap battle with after he pulled out a notepad of pre-written lyrics (even though it was supposed to be a freestyle). He also, at every opportunity whipped out old lines from old songs including the now tired “mic on my arm” lyric like some kind of bad joke…
And then over the years that followed, he completely destroyed any credibility and popularity he once had. Currently Canibus is about as relevant as the internet dial-up tone that played on the intro to his début album.
That battle with Dizaster was painful to watch. He got DESTROYED.
Islamaphobic? Lmao do you need Quran verses after chapter 2 when Allah abrogated every peaceful verse to give sex and slaves and manipulation to Muhammad. Please ask for chapter and verse. You’ll get context
Don’t say something is phobic if you understand nothing about it or don’t know about it
The term “sex slave” refers to what occurs today in terms of human trafficking, and this can be considered strictly prohibited in the Qur’an: “Do not compel your [slave] maidens to prostitution” (Q 24:33).
There is even a Qur’anic verse that says righteousness (al-birr) is not about turning your face in prayer to a certain direction, but rather-among other good deeds-to free slaves:
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west [in prayer], but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in God, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves… (Q 2:177)
