This reminds me of the final episodes of sitcoms where the characters claim they have bright futures on the horizon but we know they stop existing when the final credits roll
This song has always reminded me of the end of highschool and having to leave all the memories behind to move on with life. Its one of my favorite song, i love the country guitar tune you gave it.
"We'll choke on our on vomit, and that will be the end." Holy shit, I've been listening to the original for years and never noticed that line. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Great cover, Billy.
This song always made me cry. I was introduced to it when I was at a rough time in my life as a kid. This version is almost an optimistic take on such a desolate song, but the lyrics are still the same. The memories are still there, but they can't hurt me anymore.
I remember hearing this song a ton in High School and loving the melody. Yet I never really listened to the words. Now I'm ten years older, living on my own on the opposite side of the country from my family, out of touch with most of the people I knew in High School, and feeling a lonliness I never thought possible... This song hits completely differently now. Thank you for the cover, Billy, I think I needed it.
I never really knew the lyrics to this song since it was kinda hard to understand but wow, I love this song so much more now. It just feels more personal.
Ah damn Billy out here completely redefining one of my all time favorite songs again making it the defacto one I want to play for the rest of time again
Been listening to this particular MGMT song these past few months as i finish my last semester of undergrad. Makes me think about how drastic my life switches year by year. Just last summer i was going through the worst seasonal depressive episode of my life, and now i find myself running an errand with the person i love. Life is terrifying but i appreciate these moments just like i appreciate this song.
This is such a bittersweet and nostalgic song for me. It brings me back to high school when I first heard this song. My family and I have very different beliefs, and I wanted more from life than the narrow path they had laid out for me. This song reminds me of the realization that our paths were meant to diverge, it reminds me of that terrifying first step off the ledge into the world on my own. Thank you for such a beautiful cover, you nailed it
Billy Bob lyrics I'm feelin' rough, I'm feelin' raw in the prime of my life Let's make some music, make some money Find some models for wives I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars This is our decision to live fast and die young We've got the vision, now let's have some fun Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do? Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute? Forget about our mothers and our friends We're fated to pretend To pretend We're fated to pretend To pretend I'll miss the playgrounds And the animals and digging up worms I'll miss the comfort of my mother And the weight of the world I'll miss my sister, miss my father, Miss my dog and my home Yeah, I'll miss the boredom And the freedom and the time spent alone But there is really nothing, nothing we can do Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew The models will have children, we'll get a divorce We'll find some more models, everything must run its course We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end We were fated to pretend To pretend We're fated to pretend To pretend We're fated to pretend.
honestly find it kinda funny that the original song was made for the sole purpose of simply sounding meaningful and now its kinda like this cover seeks to flip it on its head tonally speaking, kinda came full circle in a way, love it man 🤟
such a fantastic cover as always. i listened to this song on repeat the summer of last year because i was about to move away for college. i always loved this song growing up but it was only then that the lyrics of the second verse sunk in and it made me so emotional. love your stuff billy, you captured the feeling of this song so well
RAAAGH this cover is so wonderful.. even though it was uploaded a little before I woke up this morning and smiled. it’s my birthday today and it made my day :]
being real though, im just now beginning the job search nightmare and getting out in the world, trying to move out for the first time, no more school. familys got cancer and everyone is getting older. shits tough but im working it out. this just makes me think of everything ive lost and going to continue to lose. not gonna lie i might be a little drunk and may or may not be crying while writing this but shit will work out. thanks billy.
wow, posted 1 day ago, already have 18k views, im not even subscribed to you so it looks like the algorithm caught onto you, good luck, glad you’re being recognized, you’re very talented and keep up the great music dude!
I hate highschool, only two more days. Been feeling hopeless and hurt. So much hurt. Never let a teacher yell and falsely accuse things about your character. Never let them make you feel like you’re cornered. Never let them have this much control over you. I’ll miss my friends and my favorite teachers. I just want to go to college already. It still hurts
If it's any consolation, most of your high school years probably won't matter that much unless you make them matter in positive ways or negative ways. That's my experience anyway. The only impact for me was trying some academic subjects, SAT scores, and a few early scholarships. All of the friends and troubles are a blur at this point. Basically, you author your own story and platitudes like that.
Much better than the original. Wouldn't expect anything less from the legendary Billy Cobb! Also, it sounds like an alternative end credits song for Adventure Time with this arrangement.
the music video for this song is so sick, produced by Ray Tintori who also made this amazing short film called Death to the Tinman available for free on youtube. Worth the watch.

I remember hearing this first in the beginning of the movie 21. I was obsessed with card counting for a couple years in middle school.
So much nostalgia from this one…you’re a gangsta for this

Billy Bob lyrics
I'm feelin' rough, I'm feelin' raw
in the prime of my life
Let's make some music, make some money
Find some models for wives
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars
This is our decision to live fast and die young
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun
Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
Forget about our mothers and our friends
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
I'll miss the playgrounds
And the animals and digging up worms
I'll miss the comfort of my mother
And the weight of the world
I'll miss my sister, miss my father,
Miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I'll miss the boredom
And the freedom and the time spent alone
But there is really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew
The models will have children, we'll get a divorce
We'll find some more models, everything must run its course
We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
We were fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend.
