      Most Steelers fans are routing for him to succeed as well. There’s a small sample size that wants to pull him and put Russel Wilson in, I’m not in that crowd though. Fields could be our future franchise QB, Wilson has only 3-4 years left in the NFL before he’s forced to retire.

    Re: Fields not being named starter, I just get this sense that Tomlin is attempting to motivate Fields by doing this; that Fields' experience is simply being anointed QB1 without really having to really earn it or be challenged for it. That by keeping Fields a bit uncomfortable, Tomlin's encouraging Fields to play smarter football instead of reckless hero ball, knowing that there are consequences to bad play that weren't there in Chicago or Ohio State.

    The VERY best thing about he 3-0 start is actually that it puts us on track for home field advantage throughout the playoffs and THAT is the 12th man on the field for defense-dominant teams.
    Like it’s been said this week, give TJ a scenario where the Acrisure crowd noise forces the opponent into silent counts and it’s like giving him 2 extra steps at the QB every play.

    What the front office needs to get credit for but no one talks about it is building a team with a ton of depth. Think about it! This team already has had to deal with an injured Jalen Warren, Troy Fatanu, Russell Wilson, Isaac Seuomalo, Alex Highsmith, etc. This team hasn’t missed a beat and I would argue has actually gotten better! The only negative I would argue was the knee jerk reaction to dumping Deonte Johnson but if Roman Wilson can step up and be close to what he was at Michigan then that won’t matter! Bravo Khan and Widel!!!

    The big thing that has worried me since the schedule has come out isnt the wins and loses in the second half but the attrition. When we play the other AFC North we always seem to have a lot of injuries. I guess it is the type of physical ball we all play, sometimes its the cheap shots bungles, but I just hope we can go into the playoffs with a healthy team for once. I dont want to see our foundation players in sweats watching the playoffs IE Cam, TJ, Minka, Najee, Muth, Pickens etc. To many times, in the last decade when we had a real chance to go far in the playoffs our stars were on the sidelines watching as we lost.

    • @davidwiggins26

      Im really excited about this team but we should pump the brakes on that, every year there’s at least one “how did we lose that” game and the juggernauts are all at the latter end of the schedule. Fearing the AFC North? Why? That’s historically been the easier part of our schedule. Look at our historical and recent win-loss record.
    I think the only reason some of us are bought into the idea that those games are harder is because the media keeps lying to us about how good the Ravens, Bengals and Browns are every year.

    The only thing that I don’t like is that we have a Thursday game and a Wednesday. Both of those should be outlawed in this league. But both of our short week games come after we play Baltimore. And regardless of record, Baltimore is always physical. It just means we’re going to see more injuries late in the season when we don’t need them.

    there's at least 10 good reasons for Tomlin not to make an official announcement on starting QB and not so many great reasons to announce it. Who cares who the official QB is?! I'm quite confident that the players know full well what their roles are and it does not have to be broadcasted throughout the media. Keep the enemy in the dark.

      Yes for sure. This next game against the Colts is far more important than it may seem. Since we have the toughest schedule, we simply cannot afford to lost many/any of these games against lower-tier teams. But as you said, anyone can lose against anyone so we need to stay focused all game!

    Hey DK, I know the QB1 question has been beaten to death, but do you think that by not naming Fields the official QB1 on the depth chart, even though they are clearly comfortable with him as the starter, that they essentially not doing so to keep that chip on Fields shoulder and “not letting him seek comfort” in knowing that the job is his?

  • @tannerserrano6723
    @tannerserrano6723 2 дня назад +1

    Think you’re missing the mark on Tomlin. He’s challenging Fields to play better. “QB1 still isn’t earned in a permanent sense, so go earn it” is what he’s telling Fields. Yeah maybe it’s hedging a little bit so he can save face if Justin falls apart at some point, but I think Tomlin is doing what he does best: challenging a guy to get better

I want necessarily "afraid" of the back half of the schedule, but my perspective of the back half is the schedule has definitely changed from "just survive, .500 will keep this team in the playoff running if they take care of business early" to "the gotta go through us twice if they want to make the playoffs. Good luck!" Lol

There would definitely be fewer concussions in the League!!! I know from being a Boxer that the Ref stops the fight and has them put in their Mouthpiece before fighting. And when I see almost every player NOT having it in. Well it's no wonder why we can't hit people in the head and GOD forbid they touch a QB in the Head. It's KILLING the NFL and I can't stand some of these personal Fouls being called are just RIDICULOUS!!! WHY don't you ask the commissioner next time you get a chance. I think it's pointless to get worried about the strength of schedule due to the fact that you don't know how that team will be playing at that time and what injuries they are dealing with amongst other things. A team can look dominant one year and the next just be a middle of the pack team.

    JQ1*** If the Khan artist gets offered a 2nd or 3rd round pick (desperate times for some teams) for Wilson do we trade him and roll with Allen as our backup? Maybe go grab that rookie qb -Plumlee- we had off whoever has him on their practice squad as our 3rd qb?

  • @gamera5160

    We should never "fear" the rest of the AFC North, but we can never "take a game off" with this group, especially the Ravens. The AFC North will still give us close games and injuries.

  • @CompleteProducer84
    @CompleteProducer84 2 дня назад

    Always have to be cautious about our divisional games in any season, as they will ALWAYS be close and decided by one mistake or play. BUT, we are 7-1 in our last 8 against the Ravens, and we went 5-1 in the division last year with basically the worst offense. So it may not be quite as daunting as it seems. My prediction: if we can go 4-2 against the division, we will make the playoffs

    Sam nailed it! Joe Burrow is right there with Pat Mahomes in talent, but he is very very fragile, especially playing within the Physicality of the AFC North with the Steelers, Browns, and Ravens. This is why I am high on the Steelers. They own Lamar Jackson and have beaten the Ravens 7 of 8 last games. And Deshaun Watson has never beaten the Steelers. Burrow owns the Steelers but had his worst game as a pro versus the Steelers in 2022 Seasonal opener when the Steelers intercepted Burrow 4 Times and sacked him 7 Times with 1 lost Fumble.
    Football analyst focuses on the Strength of Schedule, which is very misleading, I focus on Strength of QB this is the most important factor in the winning equation. The Steelers have the best QB Tandem in the AFC North with RW3 and JF2 and I am taking the Browns with the 2nd Best with Watson and Winston. The Bengals are 3rd, and the Ravens are 4th, and this will determine the AFC North. Steelers won 10 games without a competent QB and now with all the major upgrades in the QB Room, OC Room, OL Room. Steelers winning 2 more games to be a 12 Win Team with an improved offense and especially with an improved Defense that was 6th is scoring despite all the major injuries to Minkah, Cam Heyward, a depleted Safety room (Kazee suspension 4 games) and ILB Room (Holcomb and Kwon Alexander injuries). And with the Additions of Patrick Queen, Deshon Elliott, Cam Sutton, Deonta Jackson, and Rookie Payton Wilson, Cory trice Jr. And that second year leap for DT Benton and OLB Herbig! With this infusion of Speed and physicality This Defense will be Top 3.
    Going in to Week 11 to face the Ravens the Steelers could be 9-0, 8-1, or 7-2 at Worst! Again The 2024 Steelers are a 12 or 13 win Team!

  • @stephenpetrilli4199
    @stephenpetrilli4199 2 дня назад

    I've been thinking about the division in recent years...in 2022 Steelers are 3-3 vs AFCN, but finish third because they can't beat AFCE (0-4)
    In 2023 Steelers are 5-1 vs AFCN, but again finish third because they're 1-3 vs AFCS and have trouble with 2-10 teams.
    New reality now...2-0 vs AFCW...interesting times ahead.

    Why would Tomlin announce JF as QB1 what if he goes out and craps Dow. His leg the next couple games, not that I expect that at all I’m just saying he’d put himself way more in a corner by announcing it one way or the other, he also has expressed that he wants Fields to be better, so why hand him the QB1 title, keep his feet to the fire and working hard to earn that QB1 job and also why crush Wilson’s hope of getting back and being QB1 keep his feet to the fire also working to get better every day, I see no reason for Tomlin to announce a QB1 until absolutely necessary.

  • @chrisdavis1301

    I don’t see us completely imploding during the second half of the season. Those teams are going to fear us just like us as fans might fear them. I can see us splitting a game w each division. That’s Ravens game is going to boil down to a turnover and our kickers. You never know what you’re gonna get from the Browns. A healthy Nick Chubb w a good defense could cause some problems. I’m not fear Deshaun Watson. He has yet to look like the Deshaun Watson from Houston and this is his third season in Cleveland. Everyone can make excuses for him, etc.. I’m just not willing to think he’s gonna single-handedly beat the Steelers two times. The Bengals are an interesting case. They can score 30+ at any given time. Let’s just hope they don’t figure out their defense. And Lamar Jackson he has yet to beat the Steelers so to answer your question DK no I’m not really fearing the AFC North. I think it’s gonna come down to what the Steelers do more so than it being about those teams.

I do not fear any of the teams we play in the second half of the season. I just fear attrition through the 10 day span where we play 3 games. 2 away games in a span of 6 days (@philly& @baltimore) and then 4 days later play Kansas City at home. The thing that bothers me is the League is so worried about protecting players and helping with CTE, then why the heck would they allow a team, let alone a very physical team to play 3 games in 10 days…? Blows my mind.

    Hey DK, love your show, but this Tomlin take you have comes off as odd to me. You’re presenting, as fact, the idea that Tomlin won’t name Fields the starter because Tomlin wants to save face and has backed himself into a corner.
    Isn’t it more likely that he won’t name a starter because there is zero advantage in doing so?
    By name Fields the starter today, you make it so you cannot pivot to Wilson if Fields starts struggling. It is to Tomlin’s competitive advantage to keep the start in question until such a time that there’s a requirement to pick one.
    It’s just an odd take to me that you are leaning heavily into Tomlins “reason” for not picking a starter being to save face.
    Almost every other analyst I’ve listened to seems to agree that Tomlin is doing the right thing in not naming Fields the starter yet.
    Appreciate the show!

    DK, a serious question why would you name Justin Fields a starter when he could go out this week or the following week and have a terrible game or two games in a row. You have to let it play out until Russell Wilson, 100% then you come out and name the starter. You have a bigger menu to go off by then. So I agree with Mike Tomlin. It makes no sense to anyone to name a starter. We know Justin Fields is the starter right now and he knows that’s all that matters.

    I think m how Mike T is dealing with the QB situation is the best way.. it keeps fields on his toes and keeps Wilson on his toes as well telling everyone who is QB 1 has no Benefit what so ever
