- Deep in the bowels of New Jersey, Ron and Scotto somehow conned their way into a private tour of Subaru’s rarest, wildest, weirdest, and most legendary cars! We’re talking the Brat, complete with jump seats. A Justy that STILL holds a record at Bonneville. Ken Block’s STI from Stunt Junkies, which is also Travis Pastrana’s first Rally car! All that and a lotta weird stuff too. This is a nerd out session for the ages, enjoy!
Big thanks to Bill Stokes and Subaru for showing us around.

I am utterly astonished and dismayed that you were standing literal inches away from the Legacy GTk (the red and black wagon behind the David Coleman car) and didn’t even LOOK at it much less mention it. As a colossal 5th Gen Legacy nerd, I’ve been wondering where that car ended up for literal years, and here you guys are standing with it in the background of your shots for 5+ minutes and it doesn’t even get a second glance. That is the *only* USDM 2010+ Legacy Wagon in existence. Full 2.5GT driveline, dozens of one-off bespoke parts, 300+ hp *turbo wagon*. PLEASE go back and get a better look at this thing, for our sake. In fact, I feel like this warehouse deserves an entire second episode.
I agree, although its also the reason why i love the Legacys, as its such a low key car.
Seconded. That's a hella special car for the nerds, up there with 3rd gen blitzen's with porsche interiors and 2nd gens with the sequential twin turbos.
I thought the same thing! I lost my ever-loving mind when I saw it just chillin' there, out in the open. I'm super surprised no one cared to talk about it. I would've given up a testicle to own one of those things. When I saw it in the magazine back in the day, I just gawked. It's awful how opposed Americans are to wagons.
timestamp?
@@therealbojak 34:34. It’s the red and black wagon that comes into shot immediately after they talk about the SVX, and is in shot almost the entire time they’re talking about the David Coleman car.
Subaru heaven. What a gorgeous sight to behold.
uwu🇯🇵🔥✨
Full blown Brunswick balsa wood 🪵
So good
They spent 15 million dollars fixing breakdowns alone.
So surprised tons of JDM are missing like B4 RSK, GTB, S401, S402, Forest STI etc
This video is not about Subarus. Every time Ron and Scotto are in a video I get serious 1998-2008 nostalgia. Never stop talking about the good old days. I wish I could hang out with you guys.
The cars are killer too. Living in Colorado I see killed Subies everywhere. Both of my brothers first cars were Subarus. GC8 in that killer green/blue color and first gen Legacy wagon. I've never owned one but I will eventually stuff a EJ22 or EJ25 in my Karmann Ghia. PS: I read SCC , Turbo , Grassroots MS AND I would stop at Barnes and Nobles to pick up a Max Power from time to time.
I grew up in Truckee and our mail lady drove a 1990 Legacy. We'd routinely get multiple feet of snow in a single day but somehow the mail always arrived on time. Late 90's / early 00's were the absolute jam on the awd/rally front (Group B notwithstanding)
ditto
Subaru should totally give this guy a raise. Setting this up is genius. Right now Subaru is really in the good graces of the performance crowd so this reminder is very timely. Smart move.
Seems like you know what time it is
seems like you know what time it is
NOT in the good graces...
@@jsquared1013 Hey we all loved that most recent performance model right? no complaints...
you know he is literally in the top position of the Subaru race team, he is the one giving raises
I need a Part 2!!
You walked right past the bright orange ST-X (Baja prototype). Such an odd but rare vehicle deserves a mention at least haha
came to say something about the Baja
Indeed, as a VERY happy Baja owner I am really disappointed.
kept seeing it in the background of clips and i was waiting for its feature but never got it☹️
Ah man. Im so glad yall didn't skip over the RX. Pops and I raced a white RX turbo back in the day in SCCA Rallycross (2005 ish) and man it was a fun car. That was Dad's "gateway drug" into Stage Rally. He won a bunch of the regional championships and then we moved on to the big leagues. We've got a Brat parked in the garage too! Hopefully someday we'll get that thing restored. Got all the parts needed. Growing up Dad drove a white turbo legacy sedan and an XT-6. I think the only older Subie we never had was an SVX. Those were hard to find even back in the 2000's! We're a Subaru family through and through. What a great video. Thanks boys!
I saw those 2 s209's at SubieFest Florida last year absolutely gorgeous. They also had the pre production press 22b STI vin 001 on display. Such a cool experience to see all those!
When a 41 minute video is over too fast. What a collection! Only ever seen photos of the mountain rescue Forester before, that thing is so rad. 👌
Growing up in New Zealand we had most of the cars shown here (especially the Forester, Legacy, ), within reason of course but because we could so easily import from Japan and the laws were very very loose as far as building cars. It was $2000 NZ aka 1k USD for a rolling chassis and a body would be say, 3k NZ, we always budgeted 5k to get the car to NZ . I was lucky enough to have a 2002 Legacy STi, after a little tuning it was a 200mph station wagon with THAT Nardi wheel stolen from my friends RA!!!! The full RA had a roof vent that was opened manually too. I think one reason Subaru were so chill with us was Possum Bourne, a now deceased NZ rally legend and truly amazing human. He is worth a google too.
We were definitely blessed by Subaru as Australia didn't even get the cars we did and had way harsher importing laws. Now NZ made all cars before 2007 illegal to import, it could be newer now as I left NZ in 2010 so the scene changed fast. For a time we had people like Smokey coming to NZ to see our tunes and to take the Supra and remove the 3l 6cyl and put a 2l 4cyl in it to win the 300kph race that is a thing in NZ that is very worth googling. I remember there were 20 plus SVX just in Auckland... They were very expensive.. So many memories pouring out that were lost to the BS that always happens with "friends" and working on cars.
Thanks to Subaru and Hoonigan for sharing these incredible cars.
As a Canadian who’s been to NZ in 2015, yeah, confirmed it’s a fucking sick JDM car scene. It’s a shame how quickly it disappears though but plenty of great memories
We have great import laws and shit modification laws.
Having to pay $200+ to 1 of like 30 shops in the whole country to certify adjusties (coilovers) is insanity. Surely that can just be under the general WOF i also have to pay $50 every 6months for.
I had 2006 Spec B #024 for a few years. Nice to see #001 here.
I have an 07 and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
A little part of me died when I heard that mirror snap at the end(can't have anything nice...said the 80's). Love this video, spent 1/2 of my life in Subaru's so I enjoyed every minute of this. Seeing the red 4WD button on the shifter brought back many trolling memories. The commentary was on point as usual.
Those Vitaloni California mirrors would break off even if you didn't touch them. But damm they are a cool mirror
Love y’all. Keep up the best content. Timing is always great for hoon lunch breaks. 🤘
Thank you guys so much for letting us also visit this holy grail of Subaru!
The mountain creek reference had me dead, little has changed in 16 years; the parking lot is still filled with WRXs, only now with slightly more vape clouds
What an amazing collection. I wish we could've seen all of them in detail!
“Longer the name, faster the car”
Accurate and noted
So many sick wagons that were just over looked😭 i loved this video
07 WRX Limited Wagons are dope
Love these obscure collection montages where you and other folk just nerd out for an hour. Great stuff!
That picture of Ron's, Scotto's and Vin's old subaru's made me hit up the old facebook marketplace for one
This is one of the best all time videos you guys have put out. I really appreciate this.
I owned 7 Suabru legacy turbos first generations ..!! Best car Subaru ever made ..!! I currently have a mint condition 1992 Subaru Legacy turbo 5spd with 107 thousand original km..!!! It’s stored safely in my heated garage ..!!
I remember passing by the the headquarter parking lot years ago and catching a glimpse of the 22b. Definitely a unicorn sighting for me or for anyone kinda in the wild.
I will NEVER sell my GC8---- have had it for 20 years--- 5k mods ---400hp--- light -- awesome handling--- and the sound--- Driven many cars and even more powerful ones BUT there is something special about the GC that makes my heart race! Awesome vid...
@15:17 When you made the “action park” reference about that crazy Baja looking one, I about DIED laughing 😂
I can't believe you didn't talk about Mark Higgins' TT STI build!! I live on the Isle of man and watched the speed lap, defo check out the on board video of him lapping the TT course, it's insane!
ruclips.net/video/jFlSG9_Ue4A/видео.html
Wow, I was in the process of building almost the exact same car as Bill! Mine was the '02 WRX engine, instead of '04 and the coupe was not the 2.5 rs, just the impreza with RS bolt-ons. Great taste!
This video did not feel like 41 minutes. Y’all are giving us some of the best car content available these days. You’re talking about super street and import tuner, you guys are now the variation of those mags. Bringing quality coverage to the people that want it. Thank you for all you guys do.
Dave Coleman is still around racing Lemons in a Miata and working for Mazda. Seriously cool dude. He also gave us the “Dave Point” which was how he explained front suspension technology.
Of all those magazines only GRM is still around (lifetime subscriber here).
I've had the pleasure of riding passenger in a 22b. they're absolutely crazy and 100% have more than 280hp
They probably do make 280 but they’re extremely lightweight so it feels a lot faster than say an sti with 300
21:45 “omg a spec b”
Me: look at that preface legacy behind them 😍”
I've had the good fortune to see a few cars from this collection at both Philly Radwood shows. The opportunity to see that 22B in person was probably the highlight of last month for me. Seriously, how many times am I going to get to stand right up on a 22B without it being roped off? That SVX is REALLY MINTY in person too, I think it has under 6k miles on it if I remember correct. Awesome to get a chance to see more of this collection!
What shoes do you go to in Philly ?
Also walked right by the Isle of Man car too..... that silver ST/i was the first car they let on the track in a significant amount of time....
My Aunt had a 1st generation Legacy when I was a little kid. Damn thing lasted forever as I recall. Crazy seeing one again as those have to be rather rare at this juncture. And all these years later I drive my own EJ powered Subaru (VA STi). So many gorgeous examples in that collection!!! Although the whole spare under the hood concept... not sure who green lit that one, but my God what were they thinking?? 😂🤣
Hoonigan is Subaru. Been there since ken block was unheard of. Got ken, travis and mirra signed plate. RIP Dave
Holy shit Kyle looks different from the time when he built the Astrovan
I am a 2020 WRX/STI owner and I must say this video gives a great history lesson about Subaru and the great things they have done. Subies forever guys.
I got to see some of these in Cherry Hill when I went through my training. So cool to see in person and awesome to see the collection grow.
Amazing Subaru collection I could spend hours in that warehouse.
Thanks Lads for such an in depth tour. Greetings from Ireland 😎
HOW ARE YALL GONNA BE RIGHT NEXT TO THE LEGACY GTk WAGON AND NOT TALK ABOUT IT?!?!
It’s the coolest modern Subaru wagon ever. Recaros and 300hp & 350ft/lbs!
Literally so sick. It has the 2.5 out of the 10-12 legacy GT with a low mounted turbo.
Just go back and drive it or even just start it!
For real, just commented almost the exact same thing. I saw that car come into frame and my jaw literally dropped. I’ve been wondering what happened to that car for over half a decade at this point, and it doesn’t even get a second glance from them.
@@BadCoreyMedia it is an inspiration for a build I have plans for. I love the body style and it’s so overlooked by all people, even die hard Subaru enthusiasts.
@@xchrisxwoodsx Preach. 3.6R NA track build in progress here. The entire platform is so slept on because “oo big headlights scary/ugly”. USDM got the shaft so hard on 10-14 Legacys.
@@BadCoreyMedia 2011 legacy 2.5i was basically my first car and I immediately fell in love with the platform. Spacious and good looking with a great community cult following
Before I bought my specB I always asked myself why the 5th gen didn't come in a spicy format. Such a nice car but even in non turbo form they're so rare here
Dang, I didn't recognize Kyle without the beard until you showed the Astro..
He looks like a real boy now..
Love videos like this!things we would never see or even know about unless for this video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My first Subaru was an '89 XT-6. 5 speed, AWD with a locking center diff. I put 235k on that car. It was amazing... Went on to own an '02 WRX, '05 Sti, '12 WRX and '17 WRX. So many good times in those vehicles. Thank you Subaru!
Such a great presentation. I'm bummed you all didn't get to the purple prototype Forester XTI but it's all good. Subaru will always be my favorite car manufacturer.
Subaru, I approve, literally. I have signed off on tens of millions of dollars in parts. Keep doing what you are doing. Amazing people, fantastic quality.
Always on point for lunch. Thanks guys, keep up the good work
This video is like mainlining pure nostalgia.
Needs to be a part 2 so many amazing cars still to go through?!
"I don't want to stop driving it"... that's my problem too.
Is this the first time Kyle has been on camera since he went home a couple years back?
I was glad to see he's still around! I wonder the same. Here for this comment.
I used to ride around in the back of one of those with my sister about six seven years old. It was my uncle's blue one, four speed; he hooned that thing always and one of my best memories with him.
Finally! A Subaru series dedicated to Subaru. I have an Impreza I'm working on now
Impreza gang gonna throw a fa20 engine in my 17 Impreza once I hit 300k on the stock engine almost half way there
@@wildthc_plant9205 awesome , looking to swap a 2.0t in my mines sometime next year. I've only had my Impreza outback for a bit over a month and it only has 113k on it.
Bill got the real dream job sheeeeeesh
As a subie enthusiast this is an amazing episode!!!
What an amazing episode. So much awesome stuff to behold. Thank you for bringing it to us.
As the driver of a 2009 WRX, this was super awesome to see! I noticed the (silver) one in the same body style at the entrance behind the 2 Hawkeyes. I'm sad we didn't get any specs on that one, but it's still super cool to see Subaru history.
Same! 2011 STi owner, I was like that's my car! This video made my day. So much hate on Subarus it really ruins the fun sometimes.
2011 wrx owner here making 520whp
@@__Square what hate? Everyone seems to love mine lol, and it doesnt even look that good or anything, subarus are just cool
@@bakedstreetyt maybe I just read into too many comments lol.
This is the best hoonigan video ive watched in a long time.
That Spec C Type RA R is to die for, that is the one that I want. This vid brought back memories, from the Brat (was my dream car once upon a time), the GL (wanted to lower one and put street performance tires for going to the mountains), talk about Sport Compact Car and Grassroots ( I stilll have some SCC issues around here), rally, Dave Coleman and his rally 510. Oh, and Bill's very nice GC, or is it a GM? I need to up my game on my GD.
That's awesome to see the wholy grail of rally cars getting saved for so many to see
As a Subaru fan, I really appreciate this video 🤙🏽
i’m an 05 legacy gt owner and i’m so hyped to see this video and see other new subarus to me and the legacy’s!. Happy to see the spec.B and fxt for once!
As a car-obsessed kid of the 80s, that era in Subaru's history will always be my favorite. I'm still mad I couldn't convince my dad to buy a BRAT.
The production guy always hiding behind stuff in the back of the video is so funnnnyyyyy XD
Scotto.. you gotta let other people talk. You kept interrupting the dude. It's like jon favreau sitting at a round table with 9 other people. You only hear Jon talking
Lol, I was just wondering if he gets paid per interruption.
Listening to Scotto makes MY throat itch. Feeling for you sir.
Need to get a Forester STI in there
22:12 WAUW! That is so 80's 😂
Thanks to both Subaru and Hoonigan. Incredible stuff.
I have a soft spot for Subarus. When I was a a kid my parents took us all to Disneyworld (6 of us in a car) and we were in a 77 GL (DL?) wagon (think that was the model) and it was a great roadtrip even though a bit cramped but I will always remember Subaru got us there and back safely. Subaru has come a looooong way since the 70s.
24:40so true I had to have one and couldn’t until 2017 and it was a dream come true. I miss my 2017
Maaan I miss Sport Compact Car! That mag definitely got me into cars .. Anyone remember the SCC 14 second Sentra? LMAO
I saw and sat in a 22B that Subaru was showing in 1998? I then bought 98 blue 2.5RS and modified it right after that. Drove that car for about five years and then sold it. Out of all the cars I've had, that's the one I regret selling. It never even made it to turbo status, it had the full N/A suit plus all the suspension/wheels/tires, and I had done a lot of lightweight modifications, so with me in it, it weighed in at ~2700lbs, in a straight line it was as quick as the initial WRX that rolled stateside. It was such a fun car to drive.
This is a great video for any true car enthusiast. It showcases so many classic Subaru models.
Subaru RX - in Australia the Subaru L series Wagon and Subaru Leone sedan .. 🤙🏼 I had a 1992 L series wagon (touring wagon edition) 1.8L 5spd Manual.. was absolutely mint in 2002 .. really miss that car
I'm a Ford guy but we bought my son an 04 Impreza for his first car & I caught subie fever. Now we also own a 94 Subaru SVX that we got lucky to find.
I owned a white on white xt6... Absolutely love that car and miss it so much.... so happy you guys stopped and looked at that one!
My mother grew up in jersey, has been to action park, and drove a brat... I am following in the footsteps of an original hoonigan
@35:50 thanks for the shoutout!
24:06 shout out to the Thursday blasting on the radio reference.
Love it - wonderful vid. My brother-in-law had a black 2.5RS just like his at the very end there for a number of years. Personally daily a 2018 base WRX, (with the "loud" package, STI cat back and full Kicker upgrade and basically nothing else.) The cars are fun as heck, but the very best part about owning one is the way kids react to them - they just light up. Not sure what it is - the bright color, the huge intercooler scoop, the noise.... Super fun vehicles.
Sweet tour, what a treat to go check out all these cars in person and capture so much of the Subaru history and lineage.
God I'd kill for the 4th gen Legacy GT
17:21 If you notice the pattern on the wheel caps on the RX Turbo it's engineering grid paper design. FYI, those wheel covers by themselves gave about 2% better fuel economy.
I had an '88 Turbo 4 door with checker flag seats and seat belts, air suspension and a digital dash. I was one of the coolest cars I ever had.
Love a good Legacy GTB.
RIP the only bugeye in the whole place got turned into a hawkeye
There was a blue one at the end
Was able to got to the STi Gallery in Tokyo. They let us touch and get in the racecars they had on display, even the S209 and 22B. Highly recommend it for anyone planning to visit Japan.
As a very proud owner of 2 1993 Subaru Legacy Turbo's they are truly one of the best Subaru's you can buy. Now to get one.... They made a little over 8000 of the turbo model in north America so good luck! Is the car worth it... YES!! Just for the EJ22T engine alone.
Every small car Scoto gets in he looks like Mr. Incredible after a long hard days work in an office.
the 22b will always be my dream car, even having any mean eye from a Gc8-Gf8 doesnt matter.
"Thursday blasting on the radio" lmao word!
Scotto got that Subaru rumble in his voice.
LOL - left and right lungs unequal headers...
@@agl1925 just needs a good set of KillerB's
Love those Subis. Got a limited Liberty GT Spec B Sti and love it.
I own a 21 prm wrx, I just have a big freaking grinning smile while seeing all the sti’s!
30some years ago, when I was about 4, our neighbor had a Subaru brat with the seats in the back and an exhaust. For some reason, I loved that car as a kid! It was something about how loud it was and the bed seats. It's literally one of the only things I remember about living in that house.
As a Subaru WRX owner and general Subaru fanboy, thank you so much for showing this. This is my dream garage.
Also, I know 3 people in my area of Vermont that owned the SVX. I got to ride in 2 of them. One of them, my friend took me up to 155 MPH on the highway in his. They are fast.
Finally hoonigan has made a video just for me!!!
More heritage hangers! I enjoy these type of videos the most
Subie Fam! Hawkeye Hatch (non sti, but built) owner here ✌️
I know there is so much history and amazing craftsmanship here but the thing that sticks out to me the most is the Always Sunny in Philly clip saying "that looks like a dick". I can't stop laughing as that's the first thing I thought of. Seriously though, this was incredible. My childhood coming alive from every video game or race I ever saw in person, wow.
Scotto sounding like a just woke up bert kreischer
