Listening to The Godfather's theme brings me back to the heady days of the Cold War era, when Radio Moscow often played this song in between programmes. 📻😏🇷🇺 The highlight of this video starts at 3:35, where you can see the hands of a professional radio operator skillfully adjusting the controls of a 1948 era, vacuum tube receiver that may, or may not be the grand prize giveaway for this channel in 2025. 😍👍
@@swlistening I also remember Radio Moskva playing balalaika instrumentals sixties song, "Sealed With A Kiss" and a few Beatles covers, but I may have been mistaken due to the "Mandela Effect". Hey André , good catch, I heard this one too during my late evening outdoors SWL session I didn't catch the id, but the frequency definitely was the same, in Russian language.
Hi Andre. I just found you and I have subscribed to your channel. I'll be around. I have a 100 foot wire SW antenna outside. Thank you. Very Interesting.
Sad thing is that foreign broadcaster's save on programs for friendly audiences and pass budgets for countries they may call enemies. Not quite the Happy Station.
I was asking myself the same question. They have an hour only, once a week (or, perhaps, twice a week, it seems like they do it on Sunday also). And then they play music most of the time... The Hammarlund was a great find for me, really great reception and really great sound.
Thanks Bruce! Here in South Africa our classical music station in Johannesburg plays this kind of movie music often, but you are right, not what most people know as classical music. How weird though, to just play this for most of the programme. No talking, no news (unless it was before I started listening). I am sure there are already good music radio stations in Russia... Kind of makes me think what the purpose of this broadcast would be.
I also listened to that exact broadcast on my XHDATA D808, I seem to think that the reception on the D808 was superior to the two radios you featured, I'm in Durban SA, I'm using a long wire antenna.
@@robertvandervelde60 Hi Robert, nice catch! I think with your location near the ocean you will be able to make some good catches there in Durban. I don't know if you listened to my last podcast, but I will contribute a clip to Wavescan from this month, an African DX report. It would be great for me to build up a small network of listeners here in SA, and elsewhere in Africa, who could send me occasional reception reports for my Wavescan clip. If you are interested, will you please send me an email to andre9@duck.com, then I will give you more details.
Not only on Saturdays, last week on Saturday it was announced that the BBC Russian service on WRN will also broadcast on Sundays from the very beginning of broadcasting at 15:00 UTC
Andre, the action/thriller paperback book reader in me would like to believe that the broadcast is something to do with World events but it is perhaps just a Test transmission or suchlike 😃 On a sidenote, it is nice to see your YT channel growing Andre, with a fairly good sense of community about it, familiar names posting comments, with a shared interest in radio listening etc. All the best 👍
@@lew9223 Hi Lew, thanks for the kind words about my channel. It is indeed nice to see that some people seem to be getting to know one another in a way on the channel, through their shared interest. This transmission is not a test, it is a scheduled broadcast, every Saturday (and, apparently now also Sundays). What is a bit weird for me is the programme content.
Most intriguing. Definitely hidden messages for undercover agents, contained within the music then ! 😃 Nothing would surprise me in these troubled times.
That old Hammarlund is still working. Wow! Thanks for the video.
Aah! The second half of this video is soooo nice. 👏 🌟 🤩

Maybe that's why they played it in this programme! A familiar tune in Russia. The Hammarlund will stay right here 🤣

Thanks Alain. Nice catch on your side also!
Besides BBC's relay, WRN also relays Radio Slovakia International in Russian. Have you also tried to catch this one too?
I have, and also Radio Prague. During the A24 season NHK from Japan was also relayed in Russian by WRN, I caught that one also.
@@swlistening There's also a independent radio station called "Vsemirnaya Radioset" on WRN bradcasting scheduels. It broadcasts two hours per day.

Thank you for subscribing! A 100 feet wire sounds just great, are you in a quiet rural area? Such a long antenna might be somewhat noisy in a city.
@@swlistening Interesting point about the length. Peaceful Suburb.

Not quite the Happy Station.
Indeed. Foreign broadcasters should spend much more on their programmes for people in countries with less access to varied media and information.
Why is the BBC broadcasting American movie music to Russian audiences?
And that old Hammarlund sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

That isn't classical music, it's from The Godfather, by Nino Rota. But a great catch, Andre.
