This summer, the epic studio disaster movie returns with an adrenaline-pumping, big-screen thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature’s most wondrous-and destructive-forces.
From the producers of the Jurassic, Bourne and Indiana Jones series comes Twisters, a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster, Twister. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar® nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing), Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) as equal forces, with opposing motivations, who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.
Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Carter, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.
As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, Javi and their crews find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

I appreciate that they had actual meteorologists and storm chasers on set teaching the cast about everything. I love that they incorporated that into the film!
Yeah something crazy is that sometimes they would loose some of the crew for a day because they would go out and storm chase
That, and in the "El Reno" scene(before the chick, I forgot her name already) stole Tyler's truck, an actual small tornado hit the set
I'm glad they released this. The trailers had me worried Tyler was going to be a book-dumb knuckle dragger who spent the movie bashing scientists and chasing storms just for clout and the thrill.
I'm so relieved he actually knows and cares about the science and isn't just an unga bunga caveman.
They could have very easily made him into the villain of the story who contrasts the more measured and intelligent Kate, but his character really becomes more complex as the movie goes on.

Just saw this movie the other day. Really happy with how they did his character. Yeah, he may be a bit of a showboater and he may be full of himself, but he knows his science and his heart is in the right place, especially when you know what he spends the money from his merchandise on.
@@MAnuscript421 - Essentially, they pulled a pretty good Uno reverse card between Storm Par and Tyler's group. We were led to believe that Storm Par was in it to truly make a difference, then come to find out that the exact opposite was the truth. Loved it, and loved the movie!
@@cheese4g I kinda feel Trevor is a jab at CSR culture (corporate social responsibility). Here is Javi who is all dressed up and sponsored and saying he does it for the people, then here's Trevor who is a streamer from hell. At first you're like oh boy this guy Trevor is gonna be Jonas (from OG Twister). Turns out, looks can be deceiving

the trailer shows them with one of the original dorothy's in the truck - so most likely same Tornadic Cinematic Universe
just the concept is same. it is a standalone movie on it's own.
My theory is that Kate Cooper is Jo and Bill Harding's daughter.

They say it is stand alone but as mentioned above, they have one of the OG Dorothy units in the trailer. It could be that the unit was "recovered" somehow as most of them tanked over in the original film or they will loosely connect one of the characters to Jo and Bill. I would love for them to do some sort of a Bill Paxton / Helen Hunt tribute or at least a nod, but who knows?

Sssooooo in the almost 30 years that Jo and Bill launched Dorothy, you mean to tell me that they still didn’t learn anything?!?!?! What happened do their data? What happened to funding?!? Just a single 1 minute clip just told me that all of that was for nothing! Bill lost his 40 thousand dollar expensive truck at the time……wow!!!
Dorothy is still in this film. The problem with Dorothy is, you have to put her in the path of tornado damage. That's why in this film there is a Storm Par team who brings a mobile Par tool (PAR exists in the real world, and this mobile Par is Dorothy 2.0 which Javi created himself). If Dorothy can only send 2D data, Par can get 3D data and the tornado path. sooo, what bill and joe did is still there, but it is no longer effective.
I’m pretty sure Dorothy is gonna serve a different purpose in this version. This isn’t a sequel. Seems like more of a spiritual remake. A lot of elements have been taken and shifted around to tell a new story. They keep mentioning “disrupting” a tornado in the previews, which seems like a very sci-fi direction, so im curious to see how they root that concept in reality.

@@thebloodyside4723 Well for one, she was looking at the storm when she said it, not her computer, and two- their computer was displaying a radar image. You can't see CAPE on radar either.
So I’m confused. If Twisters is essentially an in-universe sequel, why don’t they know how a tornado works? That was literally the point of the first movie.
Because in the 90s, we learned what to look for, but as we did, we realized that we know when tornadoes will happen, we just don't know when they won't.
Tornado science is hard.
The point of the first movie was about making an early warning system. Even today we don't fully know how tornadoes work because some storms can and won't produce tornadoes.
@@VexNovaYT yeah, but they were trying to figure out how tornadoes actually worked using Dorothy to extrapolate data to create the early warning system.
