It hadn’t changed at all since the last time you visited, and it filled you with great joy to know that. For in this world of constant change and uncertainty, it was good to know that at least one thing could remain the same, despite the endless rage of storms outside. It never hurt to have a little constancy, you believed, for things which could endure hardship, could endure for all time. That was your philosophy of the world, and you stood by it with an unwavering fidelity and devotion. Just as you had remained faithful and dedicated to his Grace himself, for in his truest of forms, he was the very notion of permanence sprung into physical form. When you had passed the end of the hall, you found yourself before the great door, and without another moment of hesitation you knocked upon the smooth marble; once, twice, three times. Before you pushed it open and entered… And as your eyes had beheld the sight before you, you had seen that his throne room hadn’t aged a day. With its coral pillars standing as tall as the Kolossòs Rhódios, and the baldaquin being as luxurious as the fleece of Chrysomallos… And sitting atop it all, upon a throne of pearl, was his Grace; _The Great Sea Wizard Parthenius._ His eyes shimmered like precious stone as he laid his eyes on you, and he smiled the smile of the star-beams. But in the midst of his twinkling, his lips parted, and he spoke; his voice a tender tremolo, one hardly forgettable once one had already heard it. “Hello, you…” he simpered, resting his hand on his chin, “how I just knew you’d come, old friend.” And with that he chuckled softly, but only once, as he slowly rose from his seat and sauntered his way towards you in his usual blithesome amble. Such was the manner of his, so ethereal, so temperate…it had reminded you of your past promenades with him amongst the coral groves. “My, and how delightful it is to see you…for I had feared you had forgotten me!” Said Parthenius, with a slight wave of hand, before taking yours tenderly in his, to place a soft kiss upon. You wanted to tell him that he had been mistaken, and that you could never possibly forget his charms and cheery wiles, for forgetting them would be as impossible as sargassum meeting the sea-floor. But you didn’t, or rather…you couldn’t. Although in this moment, words didn’t seem to matter, for he had known you far better than you have ever known yourself, and he could sense precisely what you were thinking when you both locked eyes and interlaced fingers with one another. And to further solidify your feelings towards him, despite him already being well-aware, you did something that neither of you could ever have anticipated. With one small breath, and one swift movement, you swept the grand sea wizard off his feet and held him close to you, holding him in your arms… He was lighter than the air inside a fish’s bladder, but as soft as a sea angel… And the touch of his skin against yours, made you both feel rather warm, despite being within the furthermost depths of the twilight zone. It left him rendered speechless for several moments, leaving nothing but the gentle hum of your collective heartbeats to linger within the quiet tranquility of the throne room. _Blip blip blup bloop_ The sound reminded you of the sound of the jellyfish, as they partook in their blissful dance… The sound which filled you with such comfort, such faint and giddy peace that ran through your body with such a gentle glow…it felt like love. And with a few reposeful words, Parthenius finally spoke once more… “I missed you, too…my friend.” The words were unforgettable, as the very moment. Unwavering, everlasting… This single, sempiternal instance…had become everything. It was almost as if you had never left… For this was permanence. This was constant.
