I find the Hatsune Miku phenomenon to be so fascinating. I'm not really a fan, but from the outside looking in I often wonder how we got to the point of a LITERAL anime girl brought to life via hologram performing live music for tens of thousands of adoring fans and it's... just normal. Like, there's really nothing weird or strange about it. It's just another way to present the art form of music in this modern world. But if you were to try to explain the whole thing to a time traveler from, say, 1975, they would probably think the whole thing is insane.
Honestly my main explanation is that some of the songs used in later iterations are made by fans of her, like rolling girl a still popular song. (Rest in peace creator of that song) but my best explanation is that shes a virtual singer where everyone whos a fan of her come together just to celebrate loving her songs
it really just comes down to good marketing, promotion, and character design. hatsune miku was the very first vocaloid that was released as more of a character, and she had a much higher quality than that of the voicaloids that were released before her; the fact that she was released as a character and not just a voicebank is the very first point of appeal. and then at some point, because of her growth in popularity, she went from a simple voicebank/vocal synthesizer to having further extensive development. this is both in reference to her vast voicebank selection (i believe she has 10 in total, and that doesn't even cover all the different versions that have been released over the years...) and her character development. adding to that, there are over 100k songs using miku's voice bank BECAUSE of her popularity, the appeal of anime characters in the last decade, and the growth of "fan" culture over time. a large portion of the most beloved and popular songs using vocaloid use miku's voicebank. all in all, visually, hatsune miku hits every mark that a good, marketable character design should. if miku didn't have a solid character design to her, it's likely that she wouldn't be as popular as she is. she's the current face of vocal synthesizers. additionally, if you were to try to explain much of current day technology and societal behavior to a time traveler from 1975, i think they'd think it was insane regardless of what it would be because of how much has changed over the near 50 years it's been since then... lol
At her very core Miku is a representation of the art and music and creativity of so many people. That’s just something so genuine and awesome that’s so captivating. This gives birth to fans who puts genuine effort in showing love and appreciation for her that’s also long-lasting. Plus the idea behind her is that she can be pretty much whoever you want her to be, this gives fans, creators (and pretty much anyone) the creative freedom to view and depict her as however they wish. This encourages people to make more art through and with her, which just further introduces her to a lot of people. This also means that (at least potentially) the all types and kinds genres of art and music that are made with her is diverse enough to cater to everyone.
They would call you insane even in the 2011 era. People thought you were weird if you remotely associated with anime back then. Honestly its probably worse now today since alot of incel types stained anime in the eyes of the average person. So now people associate anyone into anime character with those kinds of people. It's like the same reputation as saying you are a furry. People just instantly think you're a freak or an incel. Actually furries probably have a better reputation since they dont have to deal with the incel part of it. Point is anime was always for the rejects of society to find solace in but its gotten worse and worse because now its about enabling bad habits in humanity to never touch grass. But that anime in general. Miku is good because you can go to live concerts and artists can express themselves freely without copyright bs. But in the eyes of a person unfamilair with miku they will just see it as wierd anime shit.

The Project Diva models will always be my favourite. She looks like an anime girl brought to life in them. They're the perfect blend of 3D yet still look a little flat, kind of like a real human. It makes her blend flawlessly with the musicians. In some songs like Sweet Devil she looks like she's really stands right next to the crew. Honestly can't wait until holographic technology improves to the point they don't need screens anymore. But it probably will be a long time. Can you imagine though if they added ai to Miku during concerts and she could respond in real time too? That would be crazy.
@@kakyoindonut3213You beat me to that very suggestion. With how fast robotics is progressing, & how good simulated flesh prosthetics are, you're likely onto something. And honestly that's a lot more interesting than perfect holograms.
that is not really possible. the in the air holos you see in movies like starwars are impossible not because of tech but because you need something for the light to stop on. a very realistic robot jumping around is possible, but that would not glow like the holo does. also I think they will star doing a lot of VR concerts once the technology for that improves. since it provides de feeling of being there with the rest of the people but without a limit to how many people can join in and the need to travel will bring a lot of fans from abroad. also you get the glowsticks too with the VR remote controls Also augmented reality concert where people actually gone somewhere but the screen is in you head.
@@lucaskp16 the VR concert you proposr is cool and all, but it doesn't have the same feeling as going to a real concert, it's equivalent to watching a concert livestream on youtube or somewhere, so the best possibility imo is either robots, or hologram
The easiest way to make this experience more "live" is to simply have Miku be a live motion capture of a dancer backstage. With a VR headset, the performer could even see the crowd from Miku's perspective and react accordingly. I've always wanted them to do something like this because it'd easily improve the live experience by a lot. A human performer being in control of Miku would make her feel A LOT more alive.
Am I crazy, or is that 2023 crowd legit massive? Like, I suck at estimating, but that’s gotta be the most people I’ve seen at a concert anywhere in a hot minute tbh, the whole entire FLOOOR is covered 😳😳
Well it probably due to the success brought by Project Sekai. Since they adapt the game into mobile platform and rhythm game. Also Miku has a lot of collab in different games & anime during 2022-2023 (ex EnStars & Love Live).
They have been using makuhari meese as their go to venue ever since 2016 and the crowds for one show are about 8-9000 people. 2013 was the "biggest" mirai in terms of the venue used (yokohama arena, 15, 000 capacity) but the concerts nowadays have more attendees not only because they schedule 2-3 different cities but also because they have multiple concerts per day.
I remember going to her very first concert in California after graduation. It was amazing to witness Miku on stage and I remember crying. Vocaloid music helped me a lot in a depressing time of my life. She might not be real but she's a voice for those who can't express themselves in full.
The people who designed Miku just don’t need to change something that was born perfect, they just need to improve it and apply the new technologies without changing her design.
@wibiz9657 She recently went on tour in America (Miku Expo 2024). Crunchyroll was involved. So, it turned out bad. She was on a tiny little TV on the stage, when the site advertised she'd be a hologram like usual. There was also poor management and only like 90 glowsticks or so at at least one event. It was a wreck
@@LaughingStockArt While we were expecting her to be in the hologram format, they didn't really advertise nor announced they would be using the hologram, but at the same time they still should've at least announce the news about the LED.
39's Giving Day 2012 is the best Miku concert to this day. Please watch it if you never have!! The original SEGA modules really are the best, and the little details of this show were amazing. Perfect classic setlist, and it included a band with brass and string sections. 2012 was actually a great year for Miku!!
Having been to more concerts than I can count, its interesting to see the change over time both in this and in person. Not a big fan of the newest normal outfit models for the 6, but Miku's Hero model was great and I hope they do more like it
I'm glad that they finally improved it considerably. The concert tickets are too expensive and the model had already started looking outdated. It was like paying for a PS5 game with the graphics of a Nintendo 64.
@@DarkNova2010 I’ve always liked the older models as well, but these new ones are amazing. The main thing I didn’t like is when they changed the style completely from the Project Diva styled models, even though they were higher quality, they looked off, so the combination is great.
The 2010 model is the best to this day. They look ugly in game but from afar and with the blur from the projection they read as Miku come to life, the physics are perfect and the proportions with the tall body and big hands make it very expressive for dancing. Every other model has looked "small" in comparison and doesn't have her stage presence. It is also the most iconic model of her that was used to talk about her in any media and in the Chrome commercial. I was lucky to see 2010 model used for The Intense Singing in 2018, it just looks great live.
Agreed, as someone who just saw her first Magical Mirai in Tokyo, I realized what I really wanted to see was the 2010 Miku model. The 2023 models looked pretty, but very plasticy. The 2010 Model just looks like she's really there, and I've always wanted to see one in concert since stumbling upon my first Vocaloid concert video in 2011...
@@Erispedia Probably nostalgia and it's her most iconic look, imo the newest one looks most 'really there' but I do think they should try to bring some style aspects from the classic look into it.
It is literally more popular than it has ever been. Being a fan since 2009, the explosion into almost mainstream awareness in the last three years has been kinda nuts.
Nah I've been in the Vocaloid scene since 2011 and it's never been more popularrthan right now. Being a vocaloid fan and a weeb were not cool in the 2010s
I always like showing people a clip from 2021 Magical Mirai Teo. It's so simple but extremely striking and intense and a great example of how they use a 3D space for her and any effects to exist
I stopped watching hatsune miku after sophomore year because my friends and peers thought it was weird… I became ashamed of it. Now that I’m back I can’t believe while I was growing Miku was growing too… I’m so happy. My inner child has never been so happy. I’m literally crying. 😭😭😭
I still remember that when Square-Enix released The Spirits Within, their intent was to somehow create ‘the first ever artificial idol in the world’, Aki. Little did Square-Enix know that their endeavour had been thwarted years ago with Vocaloid's Miku. This virtual girl is so legendary everyone can identify her long, blue twintails & tie in seconds. Lightning's got nothing on her, at this stage.
I love MIKU so much 😭❤️❤️ it’s been my dream to visit a miku concert, I hope next year I can see one! I do love her og model since it’s so iconic and for stage-wise it look more appealing Technology have improved so much since 2009 it’s amazing
The performance interacting with the Monitor Boxes at front of stage 2020/21? (Sitting on them/leaning on them) Thats clever design such a small thing but grounding Fair play for a Virtual Idol
2012 model was perfect for me. She looks so fun and energetic when peforming and the crowd of that era is the best 2013-2018 is good, realistic but don’t have the energy of 2012 2019-2023 is just so wierd. It’s like 2012 but worse.
everyone's talking about the model itself but I love how the hologram technology has went from her obviously being just on a thin screen, to her genuinely appearing like she's onstage, it's so cool T0T
@@cake_111 Well yeah I know, I'm just saying that it *looks* more realistic than it was before, they got much better at hiding the screen & making her model look like she's in a 3D space, if that makes any sense
I can see the difference(improvement) in each year, from body movement, to rendering, to hair movement and rendering, to emotion expression. Miku is becoming a lively being.
2023 Magical Mirai is the best in my opinion mostly due to my raging HERO bias but I LOVE HER DESIGN AND HOW SHE STILL LOOKS LIKE SHE"S IN PRODIVA WAAHHHH 😫😫
Miku is timeless. Miku is still the queen of the internet. She represents the infinite passion and infinite freedom which made the internet actually good in the first place.
This is absolutely incredible, not only just her voice getting more refined over the years but also the fluidity of her movements. It makes me wonder what's next.
@@じゅげむ-s6b This information is likely private, but I'd expect each producer gets paid a flat fee via licensing. The events are produced by SEGA, Crypton Future Media and TOKYO MX.
Vocaloid composers make the songs, Crypton Future Media and affiliated companies run the concerts(composers are paid once largely or royalties for ticket sales i'd imagine, they don't go into it)
Always loved the original style, I just wish they wore costumes during the performance and wore the default during any talking points. That’s what gives the concerts a real vibe since that’s what happens irl. GimmexGimme was great because they had matching outfits. I also love the included camera angles because it adds to the realistic affect and it’s like we’re seeing what Miku sees as she preforms
Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka songs really hook me in 2009 and become fan since then. Have shared and enjoyed a lot of songs with people i meet over the years, found and joinning vocaloids related communities in the web. For all new and old vocaloid fans have a great time!
it's wild to think that everything started with a simple program, i love what hatsune miku had done, with all the original content made by various person, one song that still haunt me is Kokoro kiseki (i know it's not hatsune who sing that one but it still a vocaloid)
miku has filled every stage shes gone to, shes the real diva the only one that has broken tons and tons of records!!! if she leaves for months and returns she will still fill arenas!!!!!! shes just this good!!!!
I've been a Miku fan for 7 years now, and after those years i can finally see Miku on stage next year! I'm so hyped, i can't believe i'm actually going to see her! She's so iconic, i lover so much, truly an icon! (Also watching this is a great way to cope after crying ovet SatoSugu angst and JJK 236😭)
Oh. I liked what they tried in 2022 so it's a bit sad they scrapped it. 2010s model in HD is also a good choice, it seems it's the favorite of most people anyway.

Came here to get context to campare to 2024. Now i get why people are mad, I don't blame them.
Thank you for understanding. People keep telling me I'm overdramatic because I don't want to pay the price of a car to watch a tv lol
Honestly can't wait until holographic technology improves to the point they don't need screens anymore. But it probably will be a long time. Can you imagine though if they added ai to Miku during concerts and she could respond in real time too? That would be crazy.
This might sound wild, but a real moving miku robot might actually be more likely than holographic miku
@@kakyoindonut3213You beat me to that very suggestion. With how fast robotics is progressing, & how good simulated flesh prosthetics are, you're likely onto something. And honestly that's a lot more interesting than perfect holograms.
that is not really possible. the in the air holos you see in movies like starwars are impossible not because of tech but because you need something for the light to stop on.
a very realistic robot jumping around is possible, but that would not glow like the holo does. also I think they will star doing a lot of VR concerts once the technology for that improves. since it provides de feeling of being there with the rest of the people but without a limit to how many people can join in and the need to travel will bring a lot of fans from abroad. also you get the glowsticks too with the VR remote controls
Also augmented reality concert where people actually gone somewhere but the screen is in you head.
技術が進歩していくとともに会場も大きくなっていくのもなんだかすごいなって思う😭
Don't do 2024 XD
I don't know why, but there's something so comforting and pleasing in the older models in that roughness and lack of realism
thats how i've always felt about the project dva games. they were fluid even if a bit rough. the later ones are clean but lack that charm and style
I love it when the musicians are shown on stage with Miku. It makes her feel more real than she already is. 😮😊
Am I crazy, or is that 2023 crowd legit massive? Like, I suck at estimating, but that’s gotta be the most people I’ve seen at a concert anywhere in a hot minute tbh, the whole entire FLOOOR is covered 😳😳
And it sounded like shouting and singing along are coming back in post-covid?
And they are all guys 🙈
@@focotaku *mostly guys. and this concert actually had a lot of female attendees.
I was hoping for the hologram at Coachella. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.
I’ve always wanted to see her live 🥹
wait Sakura stardust spotted in the wild?! didn't know you were a miku fan lol, also yeah seeing Miku live would be so cool
But it's just a screen now
Lol my fave yt being a miku fan like me :))
I remember going to her very first concert in California after graduation. It was amazing to witness Miku on stage and I remember crying. Vocaloid music helped me a lot in a depressing time of my life. She might not be real but she's a voice for those who can't express themselves in full.
The people who designed Miku just don’t need to change something that was born perfect, they just need to improve it and apply the new technologies without changing her design.
this did not age well lol
*refuses to elaborate*
*leaves*
Probably referring to the TV screen fiasco of Miku Expo 2024 @@wibiz9657
@wibiz9657 She recently went on tour in America (Miku Expo 2024). Crunchyroll was involved. So, it turned out bad.
She was on a tiny little TV on the stage, when the site advertised she'd be a hologram like usual. There was also poor management and only like 90 glowsticks or so at at least one event.
It was a wreck
@@LaughingStockArt While we were expecting her to be in the hologram format, they didn't really advertise nor announced they would be using the hologram, but at the same time they still should've at least announce the news about the LED.
It feels like she had a big step back in 2012 for some reason
@@atrashfromsaturn Interesting. I didn't know it. at least now she's doing great
@@atrashfromsaturnI hate to be that guy but for future reference, the term is lackluster not lucklaster. Thanks for the info though!
That was just a specific set of concerts with a different aesthetic to them. There was Mikunopolis which toured the US and then 39giving’s day in Asia
what do you mean? a step back?
39's Giving Day 2012 is the best Miku concert to this day. Please watch it if you never have!! The original SEGA modules really are the best, and the little details of this show were amazing. Perfect classic setlist, and it included a band with brass and string sections. 2012 was actually a great year for Miku!!
back to the LED screen lmao
The Project Diva F models will always feel perfect for concerts. It's just the best style for them
14年経っても人気不動なのは凄い
今の時代ボカロがどんどん受け入れられてるのは嬉しい
落ちるどころか上がってるもんね
And It will continue been so famous in ouro world.
Having been to more concerts than I can count, its interesting to see the change over time both in this and in person. Not a big fan of the newest normal outfit models for the 6, but Miku's Hero model was great and I hope they do more like it
I really love the recent model they used. It’s a great mix between the Project Diva one and the more cartoony ones they’ve used a few times recently
Whoa, found a fellow roach
@@teleportsaroundyou4629 Woah, hey brother
画質がどんどん良くなってきてるからクッソ時代の進化を感じる
The 2010 model is the best to this day. They look ugly in game but from afar and with the blur from the projection they read as Miku come to life, the physics are perfect and the proportions with the tall body and big hands make it very expressive for dancing. Every other model has looked "small" in comparison and doesn't have her stage presence. It is also the most iconic model of her that was used to talk about her in any media and in the Chrome commercial.
I was lucky to see 2010 model used for The Intense Singing in 2018, it just looks great live.
Exactly, I think they should use the models from Project Diva Arcade to this day in lives
Yeah, the 2010 concert is the best. Don’t know how to explain it but it just feels right. The band is awesome too.
@@Erispedia Probably nostalgia and it's her most iconic look, imo the newest one looks most 'really there' but I do think they should try to bring some style aspects from the classic look into it.
im so glad i'm not the only one who likes the 2010 model more than the new ones
I would love to see a holographic hatsune miku live, I’m getting into vocaloid even though it’s technically not super popular anymore :D
true
It is literally more popular than it has ever been. Being a fan since 2009, the explosion into almost mainstream awareness in the last three years has been kinda nuts.
not super popular anymore? general tickets for her concert were all sold out within 50 minutes yesterday 🤣
not super popular? vocaloid is literally in it's renaissance era right now
Nah I've been in the Vocaloid scene since 2011 and it's never been more popularrthan right now. Being a vocaloid fan and a weeb were not cool in the 2010s
I always like showing people a clip from 2021 Magical Mirai Teo. It's so simple but extremely striking and intense and a great example of how they use a 3D space for her and any effects to exist
懐かしいな、初めてライブの映像RUclipsで見た時の衝撃はすごかった。
間違いなく音楽業界のライブのあり方に影響を与えた出来事だったと思う。
39's Giving Day Final will always be my favourite event
Wow! It's the good time when Miku was an hologram and no in a screen!
2009年の映像をニコニコで見たとき、未来を感じたのを覚えてます
進化しててすごいですね~
Pero el 2016 fue la mejor animacion
Watching this after the 2024 performance from Crunchyroll is depressing.
The best versions for me are Miku from 2009, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023. She's a mix of retro and modern design.
2009年時点でかなり凄いしほぼ確立できてたことに驚き

気がつけば10年以上ライブやってるのか。凄いな
I love seeing the evolution of Miku's models~
As a 3D modeler myself I can tell how much love and effort they put into Miku
the jump from 2009 to 2010 of miku looking literally transparent to being completely fine and not being low poly was insane tbh
2013年から2018年までのミクが一番好き
I love MIKU so much 😭❤️❤️ it’s been my dream to visit a miku concert, I hope next year I can see one! I do love her og model since it’s so iconic and for stage-wise it look more appealing
Technology have improved so much since 2009 it’s amazing
This is the OG of 3D animation live concerts. Before K/DA, before Hololive, before even Kizuna Ai, Hatsune Miku paved the way for digial concerts.
the fact that many people attended for a creation... is a masterpiece
The performance interacting with the Monitor Boxes at front of stage 2020/21? (Sitting on them/leaning on them) Thats clever design such a small thing but grounding Fair play for a Virtual Idol
I miss the 2010-2012 models ngl
me too
Same
2012 model was perfect for me. She looks so fun and energetic when peforming and the crowd of that era is the best
2013-2018 is good, realistic but don’t have the energy of 2012
2019-2023 is just so wierd. It’s like 2012 but worse.
everyone's talking about the model itself but I love how the hologram technology has went from her obviously being just on a thin screen, to her genuinely appearing like she's onstage, it's so cool T0T
It still is a flat screen, it’s not really possible to have true holograms in real life since light has to bounce off something
@@cake_111 Well yeah I know, I'm just saying that it *looks* more realistic than it was before, they got much better at hiding the screen & making her model look like she's in a 3D space, if that makes any sense
Ughh i wish i was there for 2018 aa is my fav vocaloid song + my fav pronouncer 😭
and also 2021 cause the concert ver of dd SLAPS
I can see the difference(improvement) in each year, from body movement, to rendering, to hair movement and rendering, to emotion expression. Miku is becoming a lively being.
2023 Magical Mirai is the best in my opinion mostly due to my raging HERO bias but I LOVE HER DESIGN AND HOW SHE STILL LOOKS LIKE SHE"S IN PRODIVA WAAHHHH 😫😫
Sheesh design hatsune miku 2023 really hit different. Sasuga Lam Sensei
こうやってみてるの

Thats so INSANE COOL 😮❤
Dude…. I didn’t know this was even a thing I’m just in shock but like ofc this exists
when the audience joins in it always feels so hype
Miku is timeless. Miku is still the queen of the internet. She represents the infinite passion and infinite freedom which made the internet actually good in the first place.
I wanna see more like Magical mirai 2020
Where miku interacts with things on stage, really gives you the feeling she is real.
立体アニメーションを駆使して、これだけ熱狂させる事が出来る国に生まれて良かった!
최고다 미쿠짱! You're the best. Miku!
This is absolutely incredible, not only just her voice getting more refined over the years but also the fluidity of her movements. It makes me wonder what's next.

who's making these songs, and also who does this concerts, the people who owns hatsune miku or the songs composers or smth?
Fyi: ruclips.net/video/GODXMGAMpVc/видео.htmlsi=0fRhGxyYEzIkoTvp
the songs come from producers on the internet, and the concert planners just create the choreography etc
@@mygrate9534 where does the pay go to? Is it split? And who initiates these events?
@@じゅげむ-s6b This information is likely private, but I'd expect each producer gets paid a flat fee via licensing. The events are produced by SEGA, Crypton Future Media and TOKYO MX.
Vocaloid composers make the songs, Crypton Future Media and affiliated companies run the concerts(composers are paid once largely or royalties for ticket sales i'd imagine, they don't go into it)
Tbh the 2010 model will always be my fav
1:42 Probably her most iconic performance
Always loved the original style, I just wish they wore costumes during the performance and wore the default during any talking points. That’s what gives the concerts a real vibe since that’s what happens irl. GimmexGimme was great because they had matching outfits. I also love the included camera angles because it adds to the realistic affect and it’s like we’re seeing what Miku sees as she preforms

2023 Miku: Well that's not an outfit we see everyday huh?
It's her themed outfit for magical mirai 2023

Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka songs really hook me in 2009 and become fan since then. Have shared and enjoyed a lot of songs with people i meet over the years, found and joinning vocaloids related communities in the web.
For all new and old vocaloid fans have a great time!
About 2013... It's cool that Miku changed this year :) because that's when I was born
it's wild to think that everything started with a simple program, i love what hatsune miku had done, with all the original content made by various person, one song that still haunt me is Kokoro kiseki (i know it's not hatsune who sing that one but it still a vocaloid)
Simply impressive of how much improvement there was over the years!
miku has filled every stage shes gone to, shes the real diva the only one that has broken tons and tons of records!!! if she leaves for months and returns she will still fill arenas!!!!!! shes just this good!!!!
