For those that know, there is an interview with the Foo Fighters , this was not practiced with Rick at all. This is a live Jam Session !! The band was messing around pre-show playing the song. Dave found out that Rick is at the show and they brought him up on stage. When you see Dave talking to Rick, he told him what the plan was and Rick said Brilliant. The rest is history.

I watched Rick growing up. I had no choice. We of the 80s were the first to get Rick Rolled and on a daily basis. It's really cool to see him recognized as a music legend by so many musicians and fans and watch him transcend generation and time.

What I like about Rick is that he starts off a *little* shaky (no surprise as he had *NO* rehearsal for this) but after the first chorus he completely adapts and gets into the rhythm of the song. That shows an amazing talent.

Almost six years after this O2 surprise, 24th July 2023; and Rick turns up at Glastonbury and absolutely kills a mega crowd at midday! They were queuing two hours before the gig. 😂
What floored me was The Blossoms and Rick had the balls to do an hour of Smiths covers. It was great fun and I was singing along.
He killed it, and just put out a song where he’s just wandering around in the woods and it’s EXCELLENT

What everyone missed: Rick absolutely slays it - perfect pitch, rhythm and soul. The band rules in rock/grunge, but it's so clear how Rick soars above the heaviness with his nuanced voice... despite how nervous he is... and he's 51! A real musician.
That's why Dave emphasizes so much he's a BAMF. Dave's probably saw him playing somewhere/they've met on some label meeting, discovered Rick was that talented since ever and called him, who obviously accepted - I mean, Rick comes from a talent factory, PWL only worked with the very best back in the 80s.

If anyone listens to the last two records that he made he played every fucking instrument on both of those records did all of the vocal tracks all of the stacking. That’s all him engineer the records the only thing he didn’t do as the mixing in mastering. But drums bass guitar piano keyboard trumpet saxophone violin… Everything that’s on those records he played himself. Astley has been ridiculed and parodied most of his career but what tends to be forgotten is that his music may not be brilliant but his voice has always been dynamite. He was like a 60's soul singer trapped in an 80's pop nightmare.

For those that know, there is an interview with the Foo Fighters , this was not practiced with Rick at all. This is a live Jam Session !! The band was messing around pre-show playing the song. Dave found out that Rick is at the show and they brought him up on stage. When you see Dave talking to Rick, he told him what the plan was and Rick said Brilliant. The rest is history.

I have nothing but respect for both Rick Astley and the Foo Fighters, but one man stands out in this video: look at Pat Smear grinning and playing this song! He's playing this with the same energy that he can put into a hardcore punk song. That is true greatness!
Pat is always grinning on stage (often dancing too), he just seems to love playing regardless of the song or genre.
Seems to me that the Foo Fighters are the most down to Earth and friendly band going. Not above sharing the stage with anyone and just good fun.

if you watch some of the interviews with DG about this, he mentions that SLTS and NGGYU are structurally the same, so its very easy to play NGGYU like SLTS
What I like about Rick is that he starts off a *little* shaky (no surprise as he had *NO* rehearsal for this) but after the first chorus he completely adapts and gets into the rhythm of the song. That shows an amazing talent.
